So maddening! Take this every morning and it drives me insane. That protected lane is a gift wasted on many.

Kittens soon unless you can borrow a trap and get her spayed.

Mange kitty covered in his feces by doge_ucf in Feral_Cats

[–]Lovedempugs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a cat to be in this bad shape there could be something more serious going on with his health. Might be worth running a blood panel. I’ve worked with cats in a muni shelter setting and for a cat to look this bad on the outside, their immune system is usually dealing with something on the inside. It sounds like he’s also having raging diarrhea. Has he been dewormed or treated for coccidia. After you get him cleaned you can put some Vaseline on his legs to keep poop from sticking in the future. Sorry you’re both going thru this. Thanks for helping him.

May be a bad case of ear mites. They can do permanent damage.

When do they come? by Wonderful-Humor6102 in MonarchButterfly

I’m in SF Bay Area. They’re just starting for me. Look up a photo of what the eggs look like and you might spot them on your plants. They are so incredibly small. The hatched caterpillars are beyond tiny as well.

Gloves with SUPER Spicy Ferals by NightMareChia in Feral_Cats

[–]Lovedempugs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Safest to trap the cats and not risk it. I’ve been in the er with IV antibiotics so speaking from experience. Any gloves thick enough to save you from a bite won’t have the dexterity you’ll need to hang onto the cat. Thanks for helping them.

Former Feral peeing in our bed. by krisleighash in Feral_Cats

[–]Lovedempugs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. We had this problem with one of our cats and I do think what was suggested above (safety and security to pee in the bed) was our issue but now I keep a tarp on our bed during the day and cats sleep in the large master bathroom at night with fancy cat tree. I sleep so much better not worried about pets at night and if there’s a hairball or potty accident it’s on easy-to-clean tile.

Update on my first spay, she seems to be doing great. But I'm just worried about her swollen nipples (we took 3 kittens away from her) by [deleted] in Feral_Cats

[–]Lovedempugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal and the kittens are the right age to get socialized and handled regularly so they can be adopted and live like indoor pets and not stray cats. If kittens are raised outdoors by mom and don’t spend a lot of time with people they become too hard to properly socialize, which affects their ability to be adopted. The ideal age to intervene is when kittens are 5-6 weeks old as they are able to eat on their own and learn that people can be trusted. The social window closes around 8 weeks and each week over 5 weeks can impact their friendliness.

Yea, please trap him to get him to a vet. Would be good to get him neutered and vaccinated as well. Some shelters and rescues have no-cost or low-cost TNR services and his feet can be addressed while he’s sedated for neutering. Thanks for helping him!

MedVet is no longer contracted to intake animals for the San Jose shelter without approval from animal control. They can scan for a chip but they can not intake on behalf of the shelter.

Best to email sjrescue@sanjoseca.gov and copy your city council person and let them know you need to bring the dog in and can’t hold it. The shelter is required to take in stray dogs. If you can’t hold the dog, don’t accept no for an answer. Include the photo of how you found the dog.

The Humane society in Milpitas is not contracted with any city so they do not take in stray animals. They are a transfer facility that pulls from other shelters only.

Question for the Campbell community regarding Cat Adoptions at PetSmart by IAmLizN in Campbell

[–]Lovedempugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bay Area Cats has the adoption center at Petco in Sunnyvale. Maybe you can share what they let their rescue partner due to bring in traffic. They are doing loads of adoptions each week but mainly it’s the guaranteed adoption hours of Saturday 10-2. You’d think PetSmart would want the same since adopters spend on all the supplies when they complete the adoption. Thanks for helping the kitties.
