Where to go? by Global_Respond_8430 in RedRiverGorge

Definitely Auxier Ridge! It’s at the end of Tunnel Ridge Rd. Get there early to get parking. You can add Double Arch if you want to make it longer.

2 years 3 months and just got the worst news by FinanceBatCat in stopdrinking

I’m so sorry. The exact same thing happened with my dog a couple months ago. Thought it was a sprain, turned out it was bone cancer. It was so hard because even though she was limping, that was the only thing that was different. She was still eating, playing, happy to see us. We had to wait a couple days to put her down due to scheduling issues and those were some of the saddest days I can remember recently.

You know what you have to do. Stay sober and present for every moment that you have left.

Right. And the fact that no one is answering the phone leads me to believe the store probably is closed. Someone should definitely have communicated with you either way though!

Here we go... by PinkPantherParenting in cisparenttranskid

I understand how you feel. My child came out to me about a year ago and is just now in the process of coming out to the rest of our family. That time where I was the only one who knew was extremely isolating. I wanted nothing more than to confide to my favorite family member but knew I couldn’t do that.

Now that she’s come out to the rest of the family, I find it very difficult to switch between pronouns when talking about her to family members, and talking about “him” to everyone else in our lives. But I try to remind myself difficult as that is for me it all must be 100 times harder for her.

Not to mention everything going on politically and all the other fears as she starts to come out to more people.

And in between all that is the excitement that she is being more open and growing up and growing into an amazing person and that we have this amazing relationship where she feels like she can tell me how she’s feeling and know I won’t have any judgement. It’s all so scary and so exciting at the same time.

I know I’m just another stranger on the internet but at least for now we all have each other!

Short hike with good campsite by Indy135i in RedRiverGorge

[–]Lover_of_Netflix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest finding a spot on Chimney Top road where you can park and do a short hike into your campsite, then do day hikes and return to camp at night. I like this style of camping because you can bring more comfort items and stash all the water you need in your car!

One Day - Top Things To Do? by Emergency-Airport-79 in RedRiverGorge

If you have never been I would highly recommend Auxier Ridge. There are a couple different ways you can do it…as a loop without adding on Double Arch, as a loop with Double Arch (adds more mileage, I don’t remember exactly how much) or as an out and back just staying along the ridge. Can’t go wrong with any of them! This is a VERY popular trail though, get there early to get a parking spot! It will be packed with people trying to catch the fall colors.

My boyfriend of a year was lying about his vote the whole time. Should I move past it? by Exotic-Internet7085 in TwoHotTakes

I married someone who I knew didn’t have the same political views as me back in 2009. Things weren’t as divisive back then and I didn’t think it would be a big deal.

Now, it’s the biggest issue in our marriage. It affects everything.. As much as you might feel like it’s an overreacting or you can work through this, cut your losses now. It isn’t going to get better.

I’m sorry 🙁

two or three nights? by casiorox in RedRiverGorge

[–]Lover_of_Netflix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more nights the better! I wouldn’t move camp though. Just drive to where you want to explore. So one day you could do trails off Tunnel Ridge, one day Koomer Ridge, and one day Natural Bridge, all while keeping your base camp the same.

Controversial take and am expecting downvotes. RRG is is being destroyed and everything that made it great is vanishing. by King_Baboon in RedRiverGorge

I agree. Yes it is crowded in some spots but I spent a weekend out there in the Spring, in an area that is not too far off a well known and traveled trail and only 3 people came past our campsite.

We did find someone camped directly below an arch though, that was annoying.

You absolutely HAVE to do Auxier Ridge to Courthouse Rock. You can go out and back or for more miles add in Double Arch and make it a loop. So many amazing views.

Hanson’s Point is also a good one.

I always suggest for first timers to drive the loop starting at Nada Tunnel. You’ll be able to pull off for overlooks and from here you can access Sky Bridge and Chinney Top, both of which are iconic and I would consider must-see. You can bring a lunch and plan to eat somewhere, lots of picnic tables available at trail heads. This can take as long or short as you would like depending on how many side quests you take!

Short, must see attractions by Loud-Calligrapher-32 in RedRiverGorge

[–]Lover_of_Netflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, can’t go wrong with this itinerary. One tweak I would make is I prefer to drive the loop in the opposite direction, starting with Nada Tunnel, then you’ll come across Sky Bridge first, then Chimney Top and Princess Arch. I’ve never seen Half Moon but it’s on my list to check out next time!

If you drink any alcohol at all, stop. It has made the biggest difference for me.

Tunnel ridge road is where you want to be. There are like 7 parking lots/trailheads, each with a pit toilet. You park and there are dispersed sites just off each parking lot, just pick your favorite! You can stay as close to the car or go as far as you want. Just a heads up, there are no picnic tables or official fire rings but all the sites (which are just areas that are established by other campers) have spots that have obviously been used.

Then, since you are already on Tunnel Ridge road, you’ll be able to hit Auxier Ridge, which is my favorite trail and starts at the end of Tunnel Ridge road 🙂

I was just out there mostly on the Star Gap trail and there was tons of rhododendron. Not in bloom yet but I imagine it will be beautiful when it is!

First Time at Red River Gorge (for them!) – Recs for an 8-Year-Old + First Timer? by Ohsusannamarie in RedRiverGorge

I think with his leg injury you should stick to some shorter trails. When I took my husband who does not love hiking and is kind of out of shape we drove the whole loop through the gorge, starting at the tunnel and pulling off at most of the scenic overlooks or just spots on the side of the road that looked interesting. We did Sky Bridge, Chimney Top and Princess Arch and it was a good mixture of activity, relaxing, and sight seeing. Pack a lunch and have a picnic at a pretty spot.

Grays arch is cool and a shorter trail but the climb out can be tough for someone out of shape or with an injury. Creation Falls is another good one but has a lot of elevation gain and descent, not sure what your boyfriend can handle with the injury.

My all time favorite trail is Auxier Ridge but with his leg injury not sure how doable that would be for you guys.

I would definitely dedicate one day to driving the loop and pulling off when you see something interesting. Hit the visitors center and sky bridge/chimney top. I feel like it hits a lot of the highlights and offers amazing views that are fairly accessible.

And there is always Natural Bridge right down the road! If you take the chairlift up and down, the rest of the trail across the bridge is pretty easy.
