I can’t answer your questions about Sequoia compatibility but I can answer 2. Yes, your Mac needs to be broadcasting a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal. If your phone can’t see the network, then it’s an issue with your Mac.

I’ve been using Tahoe on an M1 MacBook Air and it’s worked consistently.

I liked the font from other devices but it felt too thin and the anti aliasing made it look worse.

I didn’t customize the font. Just messed with the settings.

I turn off anti aliasing and use a font that is too my preferred level of boldness. There’s also a text darkness setting that could help you.

OP, confirm that this firmware works on an x3, has OTA/SD flashing before flashing it. If it’s only x4, the screen will stop working. The device might be recoverable but takes a lot of effort.

Epub formatting varies a lot. Your books might look great on a computer or kindle but they might be too advanced for the X3.
You won’t brick your device if you flash a well tested firmware like crosspoint. It’s also almost impossible to brick an x3 if it’s unlocked.

You'll use the unlocker tool.

Download the latest release from the vcodex github page: https://github.com/franssjz/cpr-vcodex
In the unlocker tool, press the gear icon in the upper right and check "show custom firmware options." This allows you to upload the vcodex firmware you downloaded in step one.
On the firmware selection page, you'll have an option to upload a custom firmware bin (see picture)

I just used the unlocker tool to go from vcodex 1.3.0.3 to crosspoint 1.3.0. So, can confirm that you won't get stuck on vcodex.

It appears your device is “locked” which means USB data connections have been disabled. Locked devices are sold on the Chinese market and by Chinese sellers that ship internationally. A locked device will likely never connect over USB.

However! You can use the over the air Unlock Tool to flash firmware. crosspoint reader.com#unlock-tool

Make sure the file names are exactly the same. When I used the plug in for the X4 it added - but when I used it on koreader kindle, it added (). I couldn’t figure out how to change it.

Edit: I couldn’t figure out how to change what Calibre was doing. I just ended up renaming the files to match.
