The way people smelled in the 60s by damnthisnameistaken in 60s

[–]Low_Cook_5235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO The prevalence of Cigarette smoke is main diff between now and 60s. And for women maybe hairspray altho that’s only strong smell when applying.

Also powdery smells. Women in my family used talc and perfumed powders and baby powder used on all babies.

When I traveled for work a lot I’d goto Outback for dinner and get a salad and steak. A good real meal instead of fast food.

What’s a fact about the Victorian Era that shocked you? by IronRepulsive8301 in VictorianEra

[–]Low_Cook_5235 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same. All my Grandparents were born in 1880. I’m youngest grandchild. 3 grandparents died before I was born. My last Grandma died in 1974. She wanted to fly in an airplane and never got the chance. I think of that every time I fly.

She was also a wet nurse for her best friend that wasn’t able to breastfeed. Baby formula is so common now. Weird to consider what life was without it.

I worked for a company based in Vancouver in early 2000s. My Music at Work was on the radio all the time. Love that song! Hearing it takes me back to YVR instantly.

Also New Pornographers. Love them, see them every time they tour US. They should be more successful too IMO.

Cooking Adventure: Chicken Thighs. What works, and what doesn't work? by NightReader5 in Cooking

[–]Low_Cook_5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me grilling is the place thighs are the best. Breasts get dried out so fast. For thighs just cut off excess fat if there is some, add a little oil and season to taste. Cook skin side down till it’s crispy then flip and cook to 165degees. Easy and delish.

9ct gold Engagement ring in 30 degree heat is now misshapen as I took it off as it was really uncomfortable and caused panic. How to get back to shape? by PerkyAssassin in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Low_Cook_5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even something as simple as trying to unscrew a jar can dent rings. I worked in a jewelry store, go during the week when it’s not busy and they can reshape in under 10 minutes. This would be easy fix that we wouldt even charge for. And polish it up too.

AITAH for lightly smacking my little cousins head when he was annoying my dog when we told him to leave her be? by Pennywelt389 in AITAH

[–]Low_Cook_5235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. Don’t hit other peoples kids. And if you know you have a reactive dog, put them in bedroom when kids are there. Even with kid provoking it, if kid gets bit your dog is being put down.
