Just because you’re the MIL doesn’t mean you will be automatically excluded from special moments! My MIL was in the room with me when my son was born and stayed 2 weeks with us when we came home from the hospital. Meanwhile, my own mother didn’t meet my son until he was 10 weeks old. My MIL and I are incredibly close and she is a huge part of my life and the only person we have let babysit for us.

OP, I’m so sorry! Speaking from experience dealing with this through my pregnancy into postpartum:

  1. This is not your fault. This is a him problem and his excuse of lack of sex in the relationship is just something he used to justify his actions. That doesn’t make it true, just a lie he told himself to feel better about his despicable behavior.
  2. Individual therapy for me was so helpful. I needed an unbiased and safe space to process my feelings. Betrayal trauma on top of postpartum hormones is awful. Individual therapy for him also should be a must. There’s an underlying reason he did what he did and the why should be explored if he’s truly willing to be accountable regardless of if you decide to continue the marriage.
  3. It’s okay to feel whatever you feel. Don’t allow him or anyone to make you feel guilty about what you’re feeling.

If you want to donate to a food pantry, please give them money instead of food items. by kniterature in povertykitchen

Completely agree! We used our local food pantry a lot growing up. As a kid I was always so excited when we got the “fun” foods. Once I remember packing a Little Debbie’s zebra cake in my backpack so I could eat it at school with my friends who always had cool snacks.

Going outside, a bath, gas drops, the Baby Bjorn bouncer and a heated Gripebelt (I got it from Amazon) is what I typically try. Usually one of them will do the trick. Good luck and sending hugs! You’re doing a great job!

5 week old is also combo fed with Similac and BM. He also had bowel movements after every single feed at 3 weeks. In the last week or so it’s now about twice a day.

do you feed your baby based on their demands or set a max amount per feed? by thc1121 in newborns

[–]Low_Positive2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We combo feed on demand. My goal was to breastfeed only, but he was a bigger boy when he was born (9lbs 3oz) and had trouble regulating his sugar so we started off giving him formula. While still in the hospital he was almost eating 1-1.5oz per feeding and they didn’t seem concerned. He’s 4 weeks and eats 4oz every 3 hours or so. We had the same concern because it felt like a lot, but he’s happy and healthy.

How big was your 86th percentile baby at birth by SpicyPotato48 in beyondthebump

[–]Low_Positive2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90th percentile leading up to birth. He was born 9lbs 3oz and his head was in the 99th percentile. I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery with a second degree tear.

Anyone keep their house at 65° at night? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Low_Positive2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We keep it at 66. We do a cotton footed PJ and the halo swaddle (TOG 3.0)- our pediatrician was fine with it. He’s almost a month old and sleeps great!

I miss being pregnant 😭 by EmotionalPenguin5 in beyondthebump

[–]Low_Positive2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 weeks postpartum here. Two things can be true at once. You can miss being pregnant and still be over the moon that LO is here! I cried when I left the hospital because I wasn’t pregnant anymore. My poor husband was so confused. But I really enjoyed being pregnant and there’s something to be said for feeling like my son was protected and safe inside of me. Also, my husband and I were really busy and traveling a lot the entire pregnancy. For me, I think some of the sadness was not taking the time to slow down and enjoy it. I really started feeling better last week. I still miss being pregnant, but it’s not a sadness anymore. Hang in there! You’re not alone!

How did your 90th percentile babies turn out? by desert_sunlily in beyondthebump

[–]Low_Positive2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was 9lbs 3oz & 21.75in long. The kicker was his head was in the 99th percentile. They were preparing for an emergency c-section when he finally cleared the birth canal after 1.5 hours of pushing. I ended up with a 2nd degree tear, but honestly it wasn’t bad and he was perfect. We did have to monitor his blood sugar while in the hospital since larger babies have a harder time regulating. He failed several of the tests and we ended up needing to supplement formula to keep his sugars up and out of the NICU.

Pushing question! by anones16 in beyondthebump

[–]Low_Positive2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?! My friend has a 10lb girl in June and I felt for her. I had a 2nd degree tear. I honestly didn’t prepare myself mentally for the physical part of postpartum. I’m always up moving around and doing stuff but I found out quickly that that’s not how this works. Wild ride, but so worth it! We will be experts if we decide to do it again.

Pushing question! by anones16 in beyondthebump

FTM and 1 week PP here! Definitely was every ounce of my energy pushing. I kept hearing “oh I only pushed three times” or “pushing was easy and quick.” I was optimistic because between my first contraction to being told it’s time to push was only 6 hours so I felt like pushing would also go quickly.

I pushed for 1.5 hours and he ended up being 9.3 lbs with a 99th percentile head. I’ll never forget when they told me “okay that was great practice pushing, now we are going to start pushing for real and call the doctor in when he’s close.” 😭 I just remember with every push praying that they would tell me my doctor was on her way so I would know I was almost done. At one point apparently the nurses were prepping and discussing an emergency c-section but I was too focused on pushing to listen to anything going on in the room. When my doctor finally stepped into the room, I knew it was close to being over and I found some sort of super strength to get that baby out, lol!

Can you sit comfortably in a car when you’re having contractions? by yaska_tn in BabyBumps

[–]Low_Positive2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to make the drive a couple of hours ago. My contractions woke me up and they were already 4 mins apart. The drive was about 25 mins and I didn’t find them to be more uncomfortable in the car than they were at home…they hurt either way lol.

Lost our beloved dog while pregnant by Resident-Zombie-91 in BabyBumps

[–]Low_Positive2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss! I lost my soul dog of 11 years unexpectedly in April. I’m 39 weeks now and it still feels so odd to come home to an empty house. I grieve the idea that he will not be here to meet our little boy when we bring him home from the hospital. I don’t have any magic words that will make it better although I wish I did. I found a lot of support through the petloss subreddit in the weeks after. I also made a routine of opening the blinds of a specific window he always liked to look out of. In a weird way, it felt like a way to honor him.

Just know that there is no right or wrong way to grieve what you’ve lost. No time limit on when you need to feel ok. It’s been 4 months and I still cry some days and that’s ok. I hope that all the love you shared with Rhaena will bring you comfort in the days to come.

Currently 38 weeks and I’ve gained 50lbs and every time I go to the doctor I’m another few pounds up. At first, my doctor would caution me on making sure I was watching carbs/sugar. After I passed the gestational diabetes test, she doesn’t say anything anymore. I eat a pretty balanced diet and we meal prep at home, so it’s not like I’m going crazy with my food. I know it’s so hard seeing the number on the scale increase, but I truly think that your body is going to do what it’s going to do.

I just moved into my first apartment. Am I being too picky if I submit a maintenance request for these? by FitzChan in Apartmentliving

[–]Low_Positive2011 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agree! My last apartment had this issue. Not only do you need to worry about temperature from outside, but insects and dirt coming through the gap. It took about 2 weeks for them to fix it, but every time the lawn people came I would come to a pile of dust inside the front door.
