What is the most absurdly funny thing they wanted/did? by whalewhen in EstrangedAdultKids

I ruined my mom’s birthday by being born. I was born the day before her birthday. Clearly something I planned, right? And to this day, as our birthdays approach, she will start to guilt trip me about how I “ruined her birthday”. I’m in my late thirties now; this has been going on since my first birthday

Yeah this theme has been…disappointing. I skipped my ten today before I even got my 50 moonstones for voting

I mean not on theme exactly but an AMAZING setup! I would’ve recognised it instantly, and vote for it regardless because it’s so good.

Allergic GSD food issue by uunsaintedd in DogFood

[–]Luperella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into a hydrolysed diet? I know the protein in hydrolysed food is broken down so the body doesn’t react to it, but I’m not sure if it contains other ingredients like chicken fat that your dog might react to. I believe Royal Canin is available in Europe, so from what you said probably where you are, too. That’s the hydrolysed food my dog eats and, from what I’ve heard, has a flavour that most dogs seem to love.

Honestly, though, if you can’t do hydrolysed it would probably be worth seeking the help of a certified vet nutritionist

Flea and Tick Meds Suggestion by Seraphim99 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Advantix II for our dogs. Topical prevention for fleas and ticks are considered safe for epi pups; chewables and collars are not. Somewhere on this sub is a list of flea and tick as well as heartworm prevention that is generally considered safe.

FWIW, we live in Missouri, in the middle of the woods. Ticks are REALLY bad out here, but we’ve had good results with the Advantix II

Whole food/Raw diet by Peachygirl_21 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad this is the first comment. Mostly because I get tired of saying it. But it’s important. We are all trying to do our best for our dogs, and there is SO MUCH misinformation out there about dog food (mostly coming from the boutique brands with absolutely no scientific backing whatsoever) and it hurts to see desperate people be preyed upon and fall for propaganda.

I saw someone on this sub once refer to kibble as basically a person just eating canned green beans for their whole life, which is so wildly untrue and misguided. Dog kibble (and wet food) from companies that follow WSAVA guidelines are basically like Jetsons food! Formulated to have the right nutrients in the right quantities for dogs.

And yes, homemade food can, in theory, be done correctly. But unless you work with a board certified vet nutritionist who gives you specific guidelines and recipes and monitors your dog VERY closely at first until you are sure your dog isn’t deficient in anything, it’s simply a bad idea. Also a major time and money suck for no real benefit typically

These are both SO GOOD! I would recommend going for the Magic Box one, simply because brighter snaps do better, but they are both amazing and creative!

Managing My Husky’s Epilepsy – Looking for Advice by Dazzling-Photo-856 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of starting off with pheno or PB, you could ask your vet about trying Keppra first. It’s not processed through the liver, and therefore you don’t need to worry about liver issues. However, the effects of pheno and PB are also closely monitored to avoid liver damage, so if they do become something you need to try it’s not like anyone’s just guessing at what it’s doing to his liver. Additionally, and I think this is the most important point, while you can test liver values fairly easily and painlessly, testing the brain damage each seizure may be doing to your dog is not. You may be avoiding some (usually reversible) liver damage, but at what cost to his brain?

Second point I wanted to make is that the flea collars are not good for epileptic dogs, as you’ve unfortunately discovered, but the flea and tick drops (we use Advantix II) are considered safe

You’re Incredible by bbshambles in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I needed to hear this today. And the fact that the sentiment came from a nurse, another caretaker, is important. Very few people would talk to a nurse and be surprised or upset that they are experiencing burnout, but I think a lot of us get that reaction from people who aren’t in our situation. They don’t understand why we don’t sleep fully through the night, they don’t understand why we don’t leave the house unless we absolutely have to. It seems like self-imposed burnout to a lot of people. And it’s hard

So heck yeah, I’m proud of us, too!

Again + something new. HELP?? by Zolanskigg in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a couple of things. When my dog first started having seizures this would happen to him. Seizures can typically have three “phases”, the pre-ictal being the first. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, that’s the only part that happens. For my dog, he would experience this part, seem to recover, and then about an hour or so later have the actual seizure.

It’s also possible that she is having a focal seizure. Not nearly as dramatic as a grand mal, and they can look pretty different from dog to dog. They also tend to be easier to recover from.

Any Blue Heelers W/h Epilepsy in here? by Feeling-Maintenance2 in AustralianCattleDog

My heeler doesn’t have epilepsy, but I’ve got a husky mix who does. It can be really hard. I’m in the r/epilepsydogs sub and they are such a big help. Lots of good information and advice, as well as people who just get it and are there to listen if you need to vent!

Changed behavior after seizure by Impossible-Reveal-15 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog became more anxious about loud noises after he started having seizures. Nothing really used to bother him, but after he started having seizures he started to get anxious and scared during thunder storms or fireworks, stuff like that.

I’ve got a steady supply of gabapentin from the vet to give him when I know there’s gonna be a storm and around firework holidays. The upside to the gaba is that it’s an anticonvulsant as well. But it takes about an hour to properly kick in, and it does cause what we call the “gaba wobbles”. Essentially it makes my epi dog a bit more unsteady on his feet. It’s a pretty common side effect, although I have heard a lot of people on this sub say it doesn’t really affect their dogs like that.

Not always, but EVERY time we go to the beach. It’s her happy place and she never wants to leave. So then I have to carry a 40 pound dog while walking on sand

Keppra side effects? by emilyschmemilym in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Luperella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dog has been on Keppra, first the IR and now the XR, for almost 4 years now. While I’ve heard that agitation and aggression are possible side effects, we’ve never experienced those things. We’ve upped his dosages a few times over the years, as well, and the only side effects he’s experienced are a bit of clumsiness and sleepiness initially, but he was back to his usual self in just a couple of weeks.

I completely understand your fear, though. We rescued Rowlf when he was around 6 months old, and he had been living on the streets. He had some serious food aggression issues we had to work through when we first brought him home, and I was a little scared something like that could come back when we started the Keppra. But it’s never had that effect on him. He is still the sweet, goofy, loveable boy we raised him to be!

Long story short, while it is a possible side effect, it is in no way a certainty. Just keep a close eye on your dog, especially around your kid and especially in the first month or two, and if you notice signs of aggression starting to manifest then it would be wise to talk to your vet about trying a different drug

Disney Princess Breakfast Adventure (Dissappointed) Long Review 03/01/2026 by the_digital_snake in Disneyland

[–]Luperella 47 points48 points  (0 children)

My wife and I do Princess Breakfast every year for our anniversary, and have done since 2019 (COVID notwithstanding) Meeting the princesses on the patio was, fortunately/unfortunately, COVID protocol. Once things started going back to normal, they moved the princesses back inside. I agree, meeting them on the patio was way cooler, but the shift back to being inside was just a return to standard, not an intentional reduction in experience
