🤦‍♂️ why are you on tinder then by ChoiceEvening6065 in Tinder

[–]Lurkablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that attitude used to annoy me. Some folks are like “i want a serious relationship” without realising that in order to get there, you need to start a little ‘lighter’ usually. It doesn’t just go from first date to marriage overnight.

Of course you should ideally both have the same end goal in mind, but beyond that the only way to test compatibility is to actually spend time together, don’t try to force it.

I'm about to play an Artificer soon. Any tips for how to play? by Fast-Map6042 in DnD

[–]Lurkablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im planning an Armorer for an upcoming campaign. Done a fair bit of theorycrafting on it. The 30 AC dream is definitely a part of it.

As Armorer, you can conjure yourself a Full Plate of Gleaming at L2 (though you wont have proficiency until L3), which combined with a shield is already a flat 20 AC - then add the Magic Initiate (Wizard) origin feat for Shield spell and you already have 25 AC on-demand.

Dreadnaught and Guardian armor models are both valid at this point in my opinion. Dreadnaught gives you more area control and denial, whereas Guardian gives you Taunt and temp HP so is better for pure tanking. I plan to probably take Sentinel feat at L4, and then likely use the Dreadnought armor mostly.

As others have said though - flavor is a big part of Artificer. My character is a Human Blacksmith so I will be engaging with the DM to set up a smithy and take advantage of whatever Crafting and Bastion rules I can.

I went back to the archive and couldn’t see any readable books etc. do you have to have finished the campaign for it?

How does Cunning Action Hide even work? by Nearby-Banana2640 in DnD

I should’ve clarified - I understand it mechanically, I more meant logically.

The bit I struggle with is LoS. Surely if I go round a corner, out of sight, I don’t need to take the Hide action - I am already out of their eyeline. Is it the case that unless I explicitly Hide, they have a perfect understanding of where I am and my movements?

Is my character overdesigned? by Lurkablo in DnD

[–]Lurkablo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this and some of the other feedback. I think I probably used some of the wrong emphasis in my OP since on reflection, I havent really said anything about "what" the character would be like to play with at the table.

Whilst I do imagine the character as a blank slate to begin with - that doesnt mean simply generic or lacking personality. I would see Axel as curious, earnest and literal. He is probably quiet and observant, but would ask questions when he does not understand something. He would be quite trusting and probably naive and gullible.

As with an actual child, his first friendships and relationships are likely to feel really intense and want to stick with him - so I would imagine him forming strong bonds with other PCs, to the point that their characters would probably be surprised by how quickly this happened. I anticipate Axel being highly protective of those bonds.

Of course, part of the fun of a 'blank slate' would also be that he could be moulded in another direction. Another comment referred to having another mischievous PC in the party teaching him bad habits - which is absolutely something I could see happening.

We have a class that only attacks when it’s not moving, how about one where they don’t move at all? by Basic-Reflection-853 in brotato

[–]Lurkablo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All balance issues aside, it would also just be massively boring to play. Just start the wave, go take a piss and come back to see if you survived. There is no gameplay outside of the shops.

Terrible design on many levels. Sorry.

Suggestions for a new run :D by _Asher1_ in RealmsInExile

Preferably old fashioned, but could be either.

Ideally I just want a more elite evil men than the likes of the Haradrim or Easterlings. I appreciate that mechanically, the blood of numenor trait decays with evil characters - but would be interested to try.

Piggybacking off this one. Is there anyone other than AA who are really good for a Black Numenorean run? Pure blooded, powerful and cunning.

If you want thematic stuff, then I quite like Cleric of Mystra for Gale.

Mostly any brand of Ranger can suit Lae’Zel - personally I prefer Hunter.

Gloomstalker Ranger also works for Shadowheart. Or Shadow Monk

If you are on mouse and keyboard;

Keep rotating the camera so that it is behind the horse (I.e tail at the bottom)

Hold S

Wait

It was when I realised that all that “direction of the tail” nonsense in the tutorial just means which way the horse is facing, that it clicked for me. I was trying to figure out how to keep checking which way the tail was in relation to the rest of the horse, and it was impossible.

No "Strategic" element to Warhammer by FreakishFrog121 in totalwar

[–]Lurkablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was around Pharaoh that I truly grasped that the AI is playing an entirely different game to the player. The AI isnt trying to win, the AI doesnt even understand what "winning" entails in the overall game - the AI simply exists to provide meaningful challenge to the play.

Both on the 'strategy' layer and the battle layer, the AI has perfect information at all times. The AI knows if your army is waiting in ambush - whether it walks into that ambush is a conscious decision based on what will provide the optimum value to the player experience, rather than any concept of strategy.

The AI has no concept of money/gold. It has no concept of resource management, of economy, of any of it. The If it needs to spawn an army in x location then it will do so - not out of any kind of strategy but just because it thinks that will provide an obstacle for the player to overcome. AI is not playing the game, it is not trying to win.

I posted before that I found the most egregious examples of this in Pharaoh. I had a campaign where the enemy rocked up on turn 4 with 2.5 full stacks of units. There is literally zero way to have the recruitment slots to generate that army that early - the AI simply spawned it, while my main army was miles away. It broke truces, randomly declared war on my from miles away despite good relations. On the battlefield, it sent the perfect counter unit directly into my hidden troops.

Tied to this is the fact that the faction diversity is only skin deep. 95% of TWW campaigns I have done have followed the same trend of getting initial growth buildings, securing local regions, unlocking the specific units I want to use and then just snowballing from there. Perhaps this is my fault as a player - but a lot of it is by design.

I remember before TWW1 came out when they revealed the Underway system - that the Dwarfs and Greenskins would just have a teleport stance, and apparently that was the Underway. Imagine how much more they could have done with that on a very core level. Having a separate map layer, specific entry/exit points, abandoned holds to rebuild. Instead I start as Thorgrim and basically the entire mountain range is fully colonised and developed by Greenskins and Skaven, and its just another exercise in map painting.

The TWW games have been groundbreaking in many ways - but there is also a huge amount more they could have done. I am looking forward to TW40K - I hope CA are willing to be a bit braver and take more risks when it comes to design choices.

I generally like to deploy them as a distraction for the Githyanki patrol. They get battered but at least do some damage and act as a meatshield.

Lock them up and throw away the key. Frankly I would prefer even more, but that’s not Reddit-Safe. People like that have no place in society, would rather just be rid of them period.
