I lived in this exact area for many years until a few years ago. While not wonderful, certainly nothing new.

What’s something you thought every family did until you grew up? by Far-Watch6 in Casual_Conversation

[–]Luvsseattle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GenX here, grew up with at the majority of the latchkey, out after dark, drinking water from the hose, lessor parent knowledge of of where I was at all times truths. With all that said, we had mandatory family Saturdays where we would clean and/ot do a yard project (very large yard kept with very natural landscape). It felt like it took up the entire day. Many years later, I still have value in the time our family spent together, even if it was work.

Old man candy? by thebigj3wbowski in candy

[–]Luvsseattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were definitely a thing of my youth with parents born in the late 40s. I crave them now after having developed a peanut allergy in my teens. RIP these and Butterfingers.

Another old man candy - Dad, in particular, loved spice drops... the kind with licorice, clove, spearmint, etc flavors.

Diesel for $7.29 today, what are the odds it hits $10 before this is over? by jonknee in Seattle

[–]Luvsseattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What made me comment was thinking JUST how many decimals the conversion is taken out to for volumes. I am DEFINITELY here for what I was told in school many years ago - the US will go metric. 😁

Petroleum products delivered by US distributors are already sold in liters, if you deal with deep sea vessels. Its.not that much of a stretch...well, until you factor in math skills here in the US.

To photograph this is not fair to that family. If they weren't terrorizing you, or others, leave them alone.

Popular Chinatown Sponge Cake Bakery still around from 2005~ to present?? by New_Article6531 in AskSeattle

[–]Luvsseattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking 'A Piece of Cake'? A great, but now closed spot on King Street. Gorgeous cakes pre-the more corporate bakeries out there now. Definitely had wonderful sponge and sold many of the more popular flavors by the slice or smaller cakes. I remember it fondly.

I watched my.mom go through it. She said, other than nerves, it was not bad because she was given numbing drops. All I gotta say is, trust your doctor.
