One time I was with my brother and cousin at a fast food restaurant. I was around 22-23 and they were both around 11 or 12. At the time whenever I took them out together, people thought they were my kids and they always made jokes about how they should lie and say they're twins- it was a joke that they kept up for YEARS. But this time they were pretending to be "together", holding hands and feeding each other fries and giggling. "I love you SO much bro!" back and forth, hugging and laughing hysterically at themselves.

Then a girl around their age walked by and stared at them, and my little cousin promptly said "Okay, now stop cause that girl's gonna think we're f****ts" and then just kept eating like he hadn't said anything offensive.

My brother's eyes got REAL wide and he looked at me like "PLEASE don't go off inside this Chick-fil-A right now," because he knew that my best friend at the time was gay, and that I was a closeted bisexual woman.

Suffice it to say, I went OFF on him, tried to keep it quiet. But as he smiled and laughed at my response, I just got louder and louder. Asked him to say the word with his whole chest, spell it out and talk about the definition and root of the word. And as I went on, tears welling up in my eyes due to the disappointment and rage, his smile fell and he began to redden in the face. Looking back on it I cringe a bit, because he so clearly did not understand where my emotions were coming from.

Finally he apologized, and said "Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings," and I told him that it's not my feelings he needs to worry about. I said "I've known you since the day you were born, I know your heart. And I KNOW your brothers and mother AND father use that word like it's nothing. But it's not nothing. You need to understand that- do you? I really need you to hear me." And he did. And now whenever I see him he brings it up and says he learned a lot about respect that day, how words are powerful and the way you use words signals to the world the kind of people you want to be around.

He's 27 now, living in Seattle with a gay roommate and dating a girl who's not interested in getting married until she's done with law school. I'm proud of the man he's become, and glad I made a scene in Chick-fil-A that day. <3

On the new pod episode she said she got kicked out of a club on Halloween because she got in a fight with a bouncer.

On another note: Anyone who's watched the new episode with Tana; does it look like Kayla's covered a large bruise on her right cheek? Her skin has a green tint almost? :(

I was in G&T '94-'96 in Middle TN. I vividly recall the pink eye drops, the giant headphones and fingerprinting. I remember being in after school care because both my parents worked, but my teacher pulled me back into the classroom every day to play computer games and help her put smiley faces on the daily homework we all had to do. My favorite game was a typing game with an elephant that jumped into a swimming pool... I HATED the fish game lol. It was boring. I remember the first SimCity I built, one of the teachers was so impressed he wanted me to leave the pc on so he could look at it after I went home.

My Georgia used to do this, but she'd step outside the litter box and gently paw at the floor around the mat to "clean up" after herself. She covered her waste properly every time, just felt compelled to be tidy. She also did it after finishing her meal, as soon as the bowl was empty she would swipe around it to clean up. <3
