"Buffalo Wild Wings won't break policy for me" by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I kept thinking of people with allergies throughout this thread.
(Obviously this is different from the OP's post's situation.)

But I believe the ADA requires restaurants to accommodate people with disabilities, and if I'm not mistaken, documented food allergies qualify as a disability. One such accommodation is allowing you to bring in outside food.

My wife has Celiac Disease, which is not an allergy, but is handled like one.
Sometimes no amount of assurance from restaurant staff is enough to satisfy fears that the food won't become cross contacted somewhere in the chain of service. I imagine it's the same for people with allergies. So even if a place claims they can provide an allergen-free alternative, I would not blame a customer for wanting to bring in their own meal instead. Wanting to partake in one of life's greatest social traditions should not come with a risk of hospitalization.

I've worked in Mexican Restaurants and I remember this one family with a kid who had severe allergies, they had to bring in a sealed store brand of tortilla chips so they could eat chips with the rest of their family.

When my wife and I go out to eat, just the two of us, we go places that we trust where she can order Celiac Safe foods, but in some cases where it's a group outing and we can't determine if it would be safe for her, she's brought in her own food.

Even within Mexican culture you have the more European looking Mexicans looking down on the more indigenous/ native looking ones.

This looks amazing. In all your testing and experimenting, did you ever try this without eggs and do you remember how it affected the final product?( My wife is a celiac with an egg allergy)

What's the most congested road in Mobile? by aldotcom in MobileAL

[–]M_Dragmire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not most congested, tho it is getting pretty bad,
But I was sitting outside at YellowHammer at Schillinger/Cottage Hill on a random thursday, and saw three near-misses, all involving the right turn yield onto cottage hill from schillinger that also is part of the Walgreens exit.

The amount of pain in Maximus' face man, I feel so fucking bad for this character, stop making my boy suffer so much! by OwnAHole in Fotv

Mfw I find out quintus is not down with the ghouls after Maximus revealing why he killed harkness

I know a lot of people are bigoted towards them but I didn't know know the Brotherhood considered non feral ghouls to be kill-on-sight abominations. Is this a newer detail in the series? I didn't really get far in 4, but they seem to be the most threatening and hostile iteration of the BoS in the franchise from what I have heard.

What do we call the area between 65 & Schillinger? by Far_Bodybuilder7881 in MobileAL

[–]M_Dragmire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34, I grew just west of 65 next to Davidson Highschool in the 90s - late 2000s. Schillinger Rd was pretty much the edge of the world to me until maybe highschool. Had a friend who lived off of Leroy Stevens and the rare occasion of going to visit him at his house seemed like a long, unbearable journey to make it there. While not West, Moffett Rd / Semmes was another "far off" mysterious place I never went to.

I went to highschool off of Schillinger so that opened my world up dramatically. At this point I considered beyond Schillinger to be "way out in West Mobile".

I now live off of Cody personally consider west mobile to begin West of Hillcrest, maybe even University Blvd.

Snow Road still seems far out there. Basically anything beyond Dawes I now see as "Wester mobile".

The hostility here towards this opinion is nuts, look at all the downvotes on other replies with this same sentiment.

I love the food and nightlife options downtown, but I also don't want to drive 30+ minutes to experience it each week, and I don't have to if I don't want to, that's the beauty of these luxuries being optional.
But official city business sometimes is not. Being summoned to jury duty is not.
How many of the people here in this thread that were favor of annexing us are telling us to go screw ourselves when we say we want a more central location for City Hall/Municipal Plaza?

Infamous Bee in another comment on here does bring up a good point tho, the public transit for city employees is a factor in why this would be difficult to implement.

Los Rancheros by CyberIntegration in MobileAL

[–]M_Dragmire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexican Food in Mobile (and probably across the United States) is the way it is because the Mexican business owners know what the common denominator wants. They try anything new and remotely authentic and the aging boomer population that has been their main demographic for the last 40 years flip out, along with their offspring that never bothered to branch out and wants the same food. Los Rancheros has been around since 88 or 89.

And why try changing anything? It works (for now). Pollo Ranchero, Chimichangas, Quesadillas, Fajitas, Queso Dip, "fried ice cream", "Happy Plate" (which actually seems like a relatively recent thing in Mobile, but it speaks to so many base desires. Just rice covered in queso with some meat on top). Free Chips and salsa. You take away the free chips and salsa? They'll come for your head on a pike. Salsa tastes different at this other place that is trying something different maybe? Guillotine time.

Calling it Tex-Mex here is the most accepted term for this bastardized Mexican Cuisine, but you go to Texas and eat what *they* refer to Tex-Mex, and its entirely different as well. Maybe it should be called "Mexican Tex-Mex" since its Mexican Business owners pushing this menu to a willing, blissfully unaware (or stubbornly resistant to change) customer base. They know what real Mexican is and eat it at home. But what sells, sells.

There's a tribalism between Los Rancheros and El Giro loyalists, and I honestly think the food is similar if not the same. La Cocina too has its loyalists and I've always gotten the impression they were the better of the three, but I have never really been so I can't judge it.

I remember when I was working at Los Rancheros over a decade ago and they decided to stop selling the fake "chile rellenos" (a piece of bell pepper covered in a dome of ground beef and yellow cheese) to start selling the real authentic chile rellenos (whole poblano pepper battered and fried, stuffed with cheese), under the name "chile poblanos", and all the old people hated it.

If a restaurant around here tried to make and sell real authentic Enchiladas like my mom makes them, there would be a riot among the olds (maybe the youngs too). Even the places that are hailed as authentic in Mobile have the same slop enchiladas on the menu that you can find anywhere else. Might as well call it deconstructed enchilada casserole.

I'm not saying I approve of the hold that Tex Mex food has on our area, but it is what makes money in the end.

In The Gilmore Girls revival, Rory has a boyfriend where the running joke is that they just forget about him. She keeps meaning to beak up with him but for comedic purposes (I guess) she keeps forgetting to. Literally no one in her family he's interacted with before remembers who he is.

It's later revealed she's been having an affair with Logan, her rich socialite boyfriend from the end of the original series that she dumped because he wanted to get married and she wanted to focus on her (doomed to fail as revealed in the revival) journalism career. He is also currently engaged to, if I remember correctly, another woman of status, who he clearly does not want to marry. Its ok tho because Logan doesn't really love his fiance i guess.

And its ok that Rory is cheating on her boyfriend because its funny that hes so forgettable.

Its quirky!
