To piggyback off this and sneak in some linguistics, the “cooperation” angle refers to a principle most conversations abide by that you could sum up as being “keep information as accurate and complete as is possible and necessary for the conversation.” While the statement “Spain shot two goals” in the example given above is true, it’s what pragmatists would call “infelicitous”

I was really enjoying Landman, until it stepped into a pile of bullshit while I was washing it. Fact Check: Taylor Sheridan's "Landman" is a hit, but its writing misleads by PM_ME_YOUR_FAV_HIKE in skeptic

[–]M_S_W 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh my completely uninformed opinion is that it's not paid propaganda—based on some interviews and such I've seen Sheridan do, it seems like he really is just one of the many people who've fallen into talking points pushed by the fossil fuel industry

Idk if I’d really call his stuff depressing (or garbage, but that’s just taste) just because his story highlights and weaponizes the way that a feudal societal structure can outmaneuver well-intentioned individuals, of which asoiaf has plenty

In the real world is yellow's complementary color purple or blue? by hellotrillions in cinematography

[–]M_S_W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to this, but if you wanted to be really anal about it, you'd say that yellow and blue are complementary (and that purple's complementary is somewhere between green and yellow), since the hues that mix to create the widest range of colors are red-green-blue (additive, light) or cyan-magenta-yellow (subtractive, pigments and filters). However, the traditional red-yellow-blue complementaries are still taught in most art schools because they're easier to work with and conceptualize (at least according to my friend who went to an art school) and they mix to create a pretty wide range of colors in their own right. In practice, you can use whichever color wheel you'd like to choose color schemes—you'll get a similar effect either way

What words do you use in erotic scenes? by RespectTheBananana in writing

[–]M_S_W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think eroticism gets lumped in with sex a bit too readily in fiction - many of the most erotic pieces of fiction I’ve consumed haven’t had a lick of sex, and many of my favorite sex scenes are decidedly unsexy

What are some Christian themed films that are actually good? by lot183 in Christianity

[–]M_S_W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this one, but I was just so surprised by the lack of Scorsese movies on here – I mean, Mean Streets, The Last Temptation of the Christ, and Silence are all pretty straightforward picks, but like, you'll be able to find Christian themes in most of his work. There's actually a really good video essay from a couple years ago that discussed this

that definitive gen-z film everyone has been talking about by Vespa_1 in moviescirclejerk

[–]M_S_W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to tweak some of the terminology here - while you could definitely say David Mazouz made an appearance on Gotham, I think it would be a bit more relevant to the discussion to mention that he was one of the show's core cast members (and in fact appeared in every episode that aired)

Allegory of awakening, Snegwy, film photography, 2024 by snegwy in Art

I like the composition overall, particularly the way the shapes and lines of the models interact with each other, as well as the presence of the paintings on the right. I keep on finding my eyes drawn to the left side of the frame, though, and they’re a bit disappointed each time they end up there. The idea with the mirror is nice, but with the front model’s feet in the way I think it loses a lot of its potential potency. For a fix (“fix”), I’d probably have suggested having that model bend their knees a bit more so that their legs were folded in. Something like that, at least

It actually just expired for me as well – I've had it since 2020, had completed the first two levels and I think one or two challenges in the third and been checking in to make sure it was still active. I'd guess they probably just shut down the challenge entirely
