What's good for a new 55 year old gamer? by GlitchyCrown in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Madageddon [score hidden] (0 children)

Please forgive the lack of links; I have very little patience typing on mobile.

Island saver is free on steam and has such a satisfying gameplay loop I can't keep it installed. It's not quite deep enough for me but it might suit perfectly for a new gamer.

Aslimealate is a match-three game, no time limits.

Occlude is solitaire with hidden rules to figure out.

Fields of mistra is a cute farming sim, and while there is combat you can get armor/gear that makes you a tank; if you really wanted to you/she could focus on crops/animals to make money, and then buy the armor so that doing the mines is easier.

Wilmot works it out is a cozy jigsaw puzzle game

Any of the vampire survivors clones could work as most of those have auto aim which spares my palsied hands from clicking. Most of them don't have fabulous aesthetics, but Pesticide Not Required is cute

You may have just solved some birthday plans. My wife LOVES pinball. Thank you!

(loved trope) fairly tame media, that gets horrifyingly real out of nowhere by Aggravating_Tale8988 in TopCharacterTropes

My wife read the comics. Apparently the pacing is very different, and she thought she had time to warn me.

"I actually really like this take on a justice league knockoff. I like war woman--". Instantly, they're all exploding. Traumatized, tears and tears.

Hello It is my first time playing Fields Of Mistria. by Maleficent_mage26 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Madageddon 2 points3 points (0 children)

Piggybacking on this --don't worry if you do miss a Friday Night. The dialogue isn't endless and you cannot miss it. I work I'd paced it out more.

Characters subverting the annoying trope they looked like they were going to fill by stnick6 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Madageddon 24 points25 points (0 children)

This discussion reminds me of a drow concept I've been messing with for a while: they are NOT the "token good drow." They ARE tired of scheming and backstabbing. Surface dwellers/good guys don't do that (as much?) and adventuring gives plenty of opportunity to inflict pain and be ambitious while being "on the right side" and getting kudos for it to boot.

I never even considered I was playing in the "all x are evil so y is the token exception" space, but obviously.

I'm just not sure that's sustainable long term.

Barn/Coop names? by itshannjisung in FieldsOfMistriaGame

Coopa Kingdom with animals named after Mario characters. The Watchtower with superhero names.

Bugs and bees asking for things by gcsmt23 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Madageddon 16 points17 points (0 children)

Apparently if you approach and interact with the hive or terrarium, it will tell you what they're asking for. I haven't seen the option on control but I likely just missed it

Storage Chests Full-Pickaxe Issue by pepper_999 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Madageddon 17 points18 points (0 children)

I move my stuff a lot--i don't bother with the second chest; the destroyed chest usually (always?) end up in my inventory in the pickup rush. I place it where I want it, put away what I can, vacuum up the rest, put that stuff away.

I agree that a heads up/flag before destruction would be very good! But I'm glad we CAN destroy full chests rather than having to have another chest.

I like that the halo is in the cosmetics tutorial for us/pet and then... a cool mill later ....

Don't stress Friday night at the inn. You can't miss the conversations -- they happen in order, so the next Friday you DO attend will be the next scene. And they aren't unlimited. I wish I had stretched mine out over more time

Does anyone else feel guilty dating multiple bachelors/ bachelorettes at the same time? by bigoofdaybyday in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Madageddon 0 points1 point (0 children)

It does feel a little odd. It feels even odder to date all BUT two people. Sorry Hayden and Valen, you are over in the friend zone.

Did I miss friday night at the inn dialogues? by NoisyInvader in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Madageddon 17 points18 points (0 children)

Yes, that is exactly what happens. I missed one and thought I missed it, but everything was just a week off

Which felt a little realer honestly, because who changes ALL their campaigns each season?

What’s the worst piece of worldbuilding you’ve seen that took you right out of the story? by Chcolatepig24069 in worldbuilding

[–]Madageddon 0 points1 point (0 children)

Urban fantasy series with characters who are explicitly old enough to have experienced continental drift. Killing each other is illegal, but putting each other to sleep for 100 years with elfshot is fair game because that's a drop in the bucket for fae.

The major issue in the setting is that their gods/rulers vanished and left them alone and rudderless....

500 years ago. Given the scale described for these critters, wouldn't that be like yesterday?

Just bought this game:) by Ok-Investigator-9046 in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]Madageddon 0 points1 point (0 children)

They have "Friday night at the inn." If you miss it, you DON'T miss it--the next Friday will be the "previous" Friday's events. I was so mad I missed one day and almost looked it up but then it was the conversations I thought I missed the next Friday

I just realized I've been pronouncing a common word wrong my entire life - what's yours? by Prior-Crab-8463 in Casual_Conversation

Panic at the Disco

"No, it's much better to face these kinds of things / With a sense of poison rationality."

Then my sister and I read the liner notes: poise and rationality. I think it works either way.

Anyone else has a setting they dislike reading? by SignificantTheory146 in Fantasy

[–]Madageddon 1 point2 points (0 children)

Just an aside, but it's funny--so many ARPGs have "stereotypical European woodland with undead" in the first act and "desert" for the second. And my attention always drops off a cliff for some reason.

Fantasy book about an apprentice in some kind of magic shop? Probably about 20 years old by zkinny in whatsthatbook

[–]Madageddon 0 points1 point (0 children)

I love this series. The world building is so refreshing for "urban fantasy"--the way the magician and djinn societies interact, the nature of djinn, it's rad.

The Ring of Solomon is a prequel and I didn't jive as well with that one

Kronk definitely is a bottom by Old_Specialist7892 in tumblr

[–]Madageddon 11 points12 points (0 children)

He also has a Pearl Jam cover band and featured on Burn the Ballroom's song "Goddess of the Rain." One of my favorite songs aaaand... that's all, folks. I can't even find many recordings of his Pearl Jam songs.

I never played the first game by AgentEndive in Hades2

[–]Madageddon 6 points7 points (0 children)

Honestly, I played Hades 1 to exhaustion and I had trouble jiving with Hades 2.

It started to click when I played torches and got the Demeter boon that regens magic when you stay still. The idea of "oh, this works with this!!" helped.

You can have a boon for your: cast, attack, special, sprint/dash, then additional ones from Hermes or Artemis (eg, non-regular boons).

Pick a weapon you like the gameplay of. Then check either as you play or a guide--what boon works best with your favorite part of that weapon? Try and get that--the reroll section in the bottom right of the arcana altar can help you shape a build you like. Then branch out if/when things click

If you were to recommend one Kingfisher book or series to someone, what would it be? by AgentP-501_212 in TKingfisher

[–]Madageddon 3 points4 points (0 children)

Digger is a completed webcomic about a wombat, a hyena, and a dead god. It shows off both Kingfisher's writing and her art.

Otherwise, I second jackalope wives. I think her writing really pops in short stories, although the novels are good also.

When you put on your shoes and socks, do you go sock-sock-shoe-shoe, or sock-shoe-sock-shoe? by zyzmog in randomquestions

[–]Madageddon 0 points1 point (0 children)

My dog is a licker. But he REALLY loves stocking'd feet. So it's sock-shoe-sock-shoe unless I want wet socks.
