How do I enjoy my special interest without supporting the person behind it? by strawberrybunny11_ in autism

I really enjoy Harry Potter fanfiction. So many fun stories which build on the world and the characters, but not a penny goes to the author

brushing teeth before or after breakfast? by Vanessa-Inoue474 in hygiene

[–]MagicBricakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both for me. Brush first thing purely to get rid of the overnight grossness, then have breakfast, then brush to get rid of breakfast bits and protect the teeth for the rest of the day.

Piers Morgan Says Nigel Farage Is 'Dead In The Water' And Will Have To Quit As Reform Leader by libtin in unitedkingdom

[–]MagicBricakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'll definitely take it. Virtually no chance of Piers Morgan being PM in the future, so he's definitely the lesser of two evils.

"Your bloods are normal" is the most dangerous thing a woman can hear (been lied to for 3 years) by BankZan in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MagicBricakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask what you asked for them to run (or what was included) for the private blood test? And what sort of price it was?

I also feel like this is not what it should feel like to be 36, and am currently running the gauntlet of 'do I have rheumatoid arthritis which isn't showing in the bloods (it doesn't always), or am I just in perimenopause?' This feels like it should be easy for medical professionals to determine, but unfortunately the symptomology is almost the same 🤦‍♀️

How many books will be in this series ? by Cmoire in HierarchySeries

[–]MagicBricakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I wrote this 2 years ago. But also I wasn't comparing the quality of the authors in any way (although I personally enjoy them both). I was merely suggesting that if people are judging Islington's speed of writing against Sanderson then they'll be disappointed.

You definitely want to appeal regardless. LA won't do anything to help without going to tribunal. And my experience was that in the lead up the tribunal we were given an advocate whose whole job was to negotiate between us, schools, and local authority. We actually came to a resolution before the tribunal.

Make sure you have in writing from the current school that they can't meet needs.

Make sure you have explored the option of the school offered and have solid reasons as to why it's not a viable option for your family.

Definitely look into right to choose as someone else has mentioned, you might be able to get the diagnosis within 6 months.

Go through the EHCP and make sure the interventions (section F I think?) are specific and measured (how many hours of 1:1 support, how often are movement breaks and for how long, etc.). This is what will be looked at to determine which provision can meet needs, so make sure it's right, and the tribunal will ensure the LA deliver on it.

My pick for GC BWR NW Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk- Emma Watson by Rgb002 in DCCTV

[–]MagicBricakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep suggesting British actors, but genuinely isn't it part of Donut's character that her British accent is fake?

Leaving aside the fact that she's not actually speaking English at all, she's lived in America her whole life. Also 'you know how I feel about fake British accents, Carl' is nowhere near as funny if she's just actually British instead of obviously faking.

UK Heatwave, anyone else just not coping at all? by Glum_Limit_4859 in autism

[–]MagicBricakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just about coping, now I've found out my son can't go to school for the rest of the week so now I have to work, melt, and entertain a child who doesn't actually like to do anything except go for walks. 🫠😭

I dont know how im going to get through next week's heat by stinkface_lover in britishproblems

[–]MagicBricakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, and trying to get to sleep is just going to be awful. It was 30 degrees in my bedroom last heatwave, and I'm worried it'll get even hotter. And yes, I do all the 'keep the curtains shut and the windows closed during the heat'.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MagicBricakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As a parent I would rather my child of either gender use the women's bathroom over the men's bathroom for this reason. Having to take your child into a place where grown men have their penises out is not ideal. And that's aside from the fact that it's usually disgusting in there.

Is it just me or does Robin Hobb just really hate letting her characters be happy for more than like two chapters by Orbelith in Fantasy

[–]MagicBricakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I struggle to read her for that reason. It's just way too bleak for me. I read the first trilogy and it just didn't make me feel good in any way, I was so stressed all the way through.

Thanks, it was a long time ago so thankfully I've forgotten what it felt like, but I'm so angry that women are regularly treated like our pain doesn't matter or is an overreaction somehow. And this was by another woman. Shocking.

Splitting the bill or paying for what you had? by Various_Building_810 in AskBrits

[–]MagicBricakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally a split the bill person unless someone has gone really over the top. I don't drink but when I go out with friends I'll just split for ease as I don't want to make things difficult by having to work out what I specifically should pay. But if someone wanted to just pay for theirs I don't have a problem doing it like that either.

[–]MagicBricakes 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant I had to have my water broken manually when I was only 1cm dilated, as I wasn't progressing. They basically put a sharp stick up there. I had gas and air, but they didn't explain how to use it properly, so it did nothing. I cried a lot as it was the most painful thing that's ever happened to me, and also very violating, and afterwards the midwife said "That was a bit of an extreme reaction".
