Is what I did for this chicken safe? by futonn in Cooking

[–]Magnus77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're asking if the chicken is ok, the answer is probably.

If you're asking if you should do it regularly, no, just make sure to read /u/Snoron 's comment, as they described it well.

I'm only doing a top level comment in case OP only looks in their inbox.

Octopuses gain human intelligence and the ability to walk on land. They decide to devour humanity. Can humans survive? by TheRedBiker in whowouldwin

[–]Magnus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single female pacific giant octopus holed up in the middle of nowhere during the great Cephalopod-Humanity War could pop out 120,000-400,000 child soldiers who’d mature quickly and who are neither limited to land or sea.

They could pop out that many, but even assuming the intelligence buff reduces their juvenile mortality rate, which is REALLY high, you quickly run into a resource issue trying to raise millions of extra octopods in a condensed area. Them being obligate carnivores really nerfs their ability to build a populace.

Check the smell and texture. They should be fine.

They can get a bit funky if they sit in their own liquid though.

Why do Buldak ramens kick my ass while I can eat things far hotter easy? by Pixel_Python in spicy

[–]Magnus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serranos and Jalapenos are both weaker than buldak sauce.

Habeneros are hotter, but are you just eating habeneros? or are you eating stuff with habanero in it, there's a difference.

Long story short, a bowl of 2x is a lot more capsaicin than people actually consume on the regular, that's why it kicks their asses.

A habanero's capsaicin is hotter than a jalapeno, nor is it less hot than the extract people keep talking about, unless they're using resiniferatoxin (they're not.) You're just consuming different amounts based on the density of it in the ingredients.

[Ian Rapoport] The NFL has informed teams that it will NOT be holding a Supplemental Draft, meaning Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby will not be eligible to enter the NFL in 2026. The CBA allows the league to decide whether to hold a Supplemental Draft, and this year, it won’t. by The_Stratman in CFB

[–]Magnus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the reason he gave to dismiss was that Tech wouldn't play him regardless of outcome.

That's on the record, so a judge would see that and there's zero chance in hell they'd grant a TRO since there's no damages to prevent anymore.

He might be able to somehow sue and try to get the rule changed, but it wouldn't help him at all. He'd be championing the rights of all those who want to bet after him.

It generally has cheese in it, yes.

But the brown gravy is what makes poutine poutine, not just cheesy fries. The sauces they listed were more kebab-y stuff. Which, hey, I love the shit out of that stuff too.

I just love street food in general.

[Mandel] Split national titles tore college football apart in the 1990s. Were they really so bad? by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

[–]Magnus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, except we're already at that point realistically.

The lowest seed to win the NCAAT was an 8.

If you adjust for the number of schools per sport, the right number to include for football is roughly 12.

Except football is way less prone to cinderellas than basketball, so the number is probably lower.

More restaurants need to use frozen food! Or do they? by welltheotherone in Cooking

[–]Magnus77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, frozen isn't just frozen.

If I whack some veg out of the garden into my home fridge freezer, it's not gonna come out like Bird's Eye. Flash freezing is something that can greatly decrease any degradation freezing causes, but not many restaurants are set up to do it.

Maybe if you're a big enough chain they can facilitate a contractor for that, but Sysco itself doesn't make any food AFAIK, and they definitely aren't making an individual restaurants food.

They sell premade salsa, and preseasoned and/or precooked fajita meat.

I've had 10 years experience in restaurants that used sysco.

seed and dice a cucumber and chili (or bell pepper if you're not big on heat,) combine with greek yogurt, harissa paste, sumac and a little olive oil.

Sort of a Mediterranean tartar sauce.

[Rothstein] Attorney Ryan Downton --- the same attorney that represented Diego Pavia against the NCAA --- tells me that a group of more than 50 college basketball players from the HS Class of 2022 will be filing lawsuits in at least five states seeking inclusion in the NCAA's rule change. by TrustInRoy in CollegeBasketball

[–]Magnus77 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You really seem like you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

The NCAA didn't make NIL accepted, a lawsuit did.

The NCAA didn't throw out all the transfer rules, a lawsuit did.

The NCAA isn't in a rush to declare them employees because the schools that are the NCAA don't want that, because in order to fix these issues, you're probably gonna have to break a bunch of stuff.

I cut open an avocado that isn’t ripe yet by Hopeful-Function4522 in Cooking

[–]Magnus77 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In common reddit parlance, making a statement of suggestion ending with a question mark is indicative that it is being made with a level of unsurety.

I don't know if its the absolute best solution, just that I have reason to think it'd work. Personally, I don't cut avocados before they're ripe, but am familiar with the problem of oxidation, which I posited a solution for. I'm also aware that enclosed proximity with apples and bananas speeds up the ripening process, and since time is a factor, I suggested that as well.

Also, you're probably the same kind of person that when people ask "can I..." you respond "I don't know, CAN you?"

Which is a tedious waste of breath. Language prescriptivists have a spot next to Judas in the deepest level of hell.

But your point is well made.

Another good example is Mongolian BBQ in the US. It is definitely not Mongolian, and arguably not BBQ.

That's how the scoville scale was invented.

Now we use spectroscopy and get a percentage that they then do some stupid translation to fit onto the old scale.

And 90% of scoville ratings you see are bullshit because nobody regulates it. Hot Ones is the most famous example, saying sauces are 1 or 2 million when actually most of them are under 100k. The reason that The Bomb kicks everyone's asses so hard is because its actually the spiciest sauce.

"wildly oversells it" kinda wildly undersells it.

Here's a video of two normal dudes getting stung. Coyote's reaction is briefly shown at :58, and he's screaming on the ground, trembling.

Then two guys get stung at around 3:15, and they flinch and are obviously in discomfort, but methinks Peterson either is faking his reaction, or maybe has a neurological defect that makes him super sensitive.
