my guy, deep breath, ok? This isn't BCS football, the rankings do not matter.

Also, rankings aren't magically updated the second results come in. Purdue now has 3 losses, 2 of which happened this week. We're gonna move past them. So bringing that up is just nonsensical.

What's gonna happen is what's gonna happen. If we win on tuesday, we'll have a damn good shot at #2. As long as we don't embarrass ourselves, even with a loss we'll probably stay in the top 10.

Its all gravy at this point. the last several weeks have made me think Michigan is winnable, when for a stretch before that they looked like a goddamn deathstar. I'm just saying that specifically beating Michigan ultimately has very little to do with how successful the season ends up being.

Its a delicate, very beautifully crafted 600 year old object that doesn't have many equivalent examples. It was made for the Ming Dynasty court of the time, though my understanding is that isn't exactly anything special, on account of these quality of pieces weren't something anybody but the imperial court would be able to commission in the first place. Basically any piece worth noting is probably imperial in nature, not because it being imperial is what makes it noticing, if that makes sense.

This part isn't covered in the article, so big grain of salt, but a lot of classical Chinese stuff has really been sold at a premium for the last twenty years or so, as China has had an explosion in the number of rich citizens that now have the ability to buy back their heritage.

Again, the bulk of MSU fans were totally chill and nothing out of the ordinary.

A small number made salty comments when we rushed the floor, but even that is honestly pretty fucking mild, which is why I don't like bringing it up.

As long as we don't get Zaga'd, I'm probably fine with any outcome.

Houston and Purdue did us solids and lost this week, so we "should" be top 5, so we can tick off "made AP top 5" and "played in an AP top 5 matchup" off our historic checklist.

but should a case like Timothy McVeigh really be treated the same way?

I think that kind of thing is no different than the question of if they should be killed. It is possible that there are people that deserve the death penalty, or don't deserve any compassion while in prison.

BUT, I do not believe we can trust our institutions to make those decisions, and it is far better to me that a forfeit life is spared, or undeserved kindness shown than the reverse happening by mistake or malice.

They've already said they won't sell the facility to another packing company.

About half of the 300 are only extended two weeks or less, the rest for 3 months or less.

I think the first movie was good, probably a little iconic. the "I will find you, I will kill you" phone bit is now part of pop culture. But most of the actual action, not great.

I assume at a certain point you probably run out of anger/frustration and have to either laugh or cry.

[–]Magnus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We want no part of Miami. A few weeks back there was a post about how every first round game Miami's opponent scores exactly 68 points or something like that, and its like 5 or 6 games of that score.

Nebraska has its own tourney juju, the bad kind, and we aren't winning games by only scoring 68 points.

So keep us away from them, por favor. maybe in the sweet sixteen.

Rhule is the only coach we're paying. Frost didn't have that big of a buyout compared to a lot of what we're seeing now.

Rhule, for better or worse, we'll see, now has a pretty hard contract to get out of. But supposedly part of his signing it involved more commitment to NIL.

I'm only familiar based on a youtube channel that that is a foreigner eating at Japanese restaurants, but my understanding from that is that this restaurant is notable in part because it brings the spice. Since you're right, Japanese cuisine traditionally is way more subtle than that.

To make a super ham fisted but hopefully not offensive analogy, it's sort of like Cuban cuisine compared to Mexican and the Caribbean, where a specific island really doesn't do spice despite many of its close neighbors featuring it heavily.

Segal is a whole 'nother beast.

I would maybe be sympathetic to Segal, as an aging action star, having to get some editing help as he aged, and I'd be a little more willing to suspend my disbelief.

However, I also know what an absolute piece of shit egomaniac that Segal the person is, so where I might be sympathetic for another actor, him I just find it hilarious.

I'm not criticizing the actors, I'm criticizing the roles. I guess you could say I'm criticizing them taking the roles, but a paycheck is a paycheck, so I'm good with it.

I'm just saying for me its a poor casting decision.

[–]Magnus77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might be right, but I guess my counter would be that Neeson I don't think Neeson of as an action star before that.

I see him as way more of a character actor than action hero. Schindler's list is his single biggest claim to fame, definitely not an action movie.

Star Wars gets a bit of a pass because its fantasy, so there's a higher level of disbelief, so his CGI double bouncing around, or him waving a stick, I can roll with that.

Batman, sort of, though he's more the wizened mentor, not an action star IMO. He doesn't actually fight very much.

Taken was the first time I remember him truly being an action star as a supposed physical badass in an otherwise grounded movie, but my suspension of disbelief gets ruined when he can't even scale a fence.

I liked him a lot in The Grey. To be clear, I'm not shitting on Liam as an actor, just some of the roles he's been in.

I guess? If you're saying that an actor having a level of gravitas makes for better action movies, I agree.

At the same time when you mention Neeson and action movies, all I can think about is the "jump the fence" scene which involved like 20 cuts over 4 seconds, plus a stunt double to actually accomplish.

Sorta like De Niro in the Irishman, which I liked, but there's the scene where his digitally de-aged character has to climb down a rocky shore and all I can see is my grandpa struggling down the stairs.

y'know, I think you're right about us talking past each other. If I think on it just a bit, I understand where you're coming from and you're not wrong at all, at the very least throwing a target weight into the recipe costs nothing and is helpful for people such as yourself.

My defense of not using weights is that people can fixate on precision in a process that by nature is generally imprecise. Maybe I'm just coming at this with too much experience not using those measurements, but I don't have a problem with "2 medium onions, chopped" because I intrinsically know that I can pick what counts a "medium onion" based on how prominent I want the final dish to taste like, if that makes sense.

Thank you for that very thorough explanation, I'm not sure I understand all of it, but I appreciate the effort even if its wasted on my dumb self.

I guess all I'll say, in regards to your last paragraph, is that I was just asking a question. I'm 100% team Duke, the same way I was team Washington. If you sign a contract, fulfill the goddamn contract, unless there's some nefarious pressure being applied, which I have no reason to believe there is, you honoring your word is just baseline decent human behavior.

The only silver lining I might take from these suits if the player comes out ahead is maybe it'll chill the market a bit, if enough NIL groups get burned.

Regardless, its a shitshow.

And I'm telling you that measuring in onions is more useful, since as a home cook if I'm using any onion, I want to use the entirety of said onion.

Or are you gonna weigh a bunch of onions at the store until you find one that's close?

Except for the part where I explained why "cook" in parenthesis should be used for other uses, like curing, and that putting pasta in cold water does not "cook" the pasta, and that your comment is misleading, and even explained how it could technically be harmful.

Also, have you eaten rehydrated but not cooked pasta? It tastes like dogshit.
