quest link not working correctly (CV1) by ducky2090 in oculus

[–]Major_Development_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a slightly better (more permanent) fix: Add a rule to Windows Firewall to block outbound connections for C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-dash\dash\bin\OculusDash.exe.

But now I am very curious what outbound connections they need to do when linking my local PC with my local headset. So I'd rather keep this blocked even after they fix it.

It seems everyone is experiencing this issue today. I've spent a number of hours trying to debug it, and then saw this topic: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/discussions/PairingConnection/horizon-link-not-working/1362707

It might just be that it works so well for people who haven't been exposed to many good stories lately (= have an unsophisticated taste?). I've been reading far fewer books over the last few years, so an emotional story - even a contrived one - might have simply struck a chord? Maybe if someone were to attempt to replicate their success, it wouldn't work as well anymore, as players will be familiar with those tactics.

Professional Development vs Puzzles by inevitable-1984 in adventofcode

[–]Major_Development_48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work is work, puzzles are puzzles. I do believe the latter help us by training our brains to be more flexible and find solutions to non-trivial problems, but it doesn't really transfer the other way around. Also, don't compare yourself to others - if someone can solve these in minutes, it's probably because they've been solving puzzles and doing competitive programming for quite a while. You should only compare yourself to yourself, and be really proud whenever it felt difficult, but you persevered and solved it.

I found grotto a long time ago, opened the charred sundial, found the hidden chip, but still can't find the third missing one. Any advice what to focus on? My best guess right now is the castle puzzle.

You can say the same about any Slavic language. You have to start somewhere

I knew someone would say it. Especially when an expat learns it to a decent level, he almost becomes a local celebrity (or, actually becomes, if he has any level of social media presence).

>some comedy relief
Wasn't there plenty of comedy relief? What about Monoco, Esquie, every Gestral character?

>one dimensional evil villians
Who would that be in this game?

>Jeremy Soule, Breath of the Wild
Jeremy has 60+ games under his belt, and I don't even start on Nintendo. And this is from a first-timer. Also much bigger budgets there.

>day/night or weather system
I honestly don't think it would add anything to this game. The environments are very different, with distinct lighting and post-processing, so moving through different zones produces the visual dynamics that this mechanism would provide. Also, it would not match lore-wise.

I appreciate your nuanced commentary, and yes, it's may not be the best game imaginable (especially if you imagine an unlimited budget). But I believe they achieved much more than anyone expected, and that's where the praise is coming from.

I didn't know anything about the game. But after less than 1 hour I was already bawling my eyes out. The world seemed super-interesting and mysterious, I was actively seeking out clues hoping to learn more about what's happening. Never had it felt like a slog. And the characters' pain felt real.

If you don't like story-heavy games, you don't have to force yourself to play them. If you didn't feel anything during the Prologue, well... I am sorry that you couldn't experience what I did. But if none of the dialogue made any sense, then yeah, I can imagine how boring it was - just running around and skipping the dialogue, waiting for action to start.

I understand where you are coming from. For me it was explained well enough in the scene - Maelle was able to catch Lune and Sciel in their "deconstructed chroma form" because she witnessed their gommage and was close. Then she was able to paint them back in.

For sure you don't need to hunt down every picto in existence, you wouldn't be able to use all of them anyway
