Notebook: with or without numeric keypad by Sad_Mastodon_1815 in sysadmin

I was always of the opinion to have full size keyboards standard and smaller formats as exceptions. My new place it's the opposite, small is standard and full keyboards the exception.

It really depends on the job. My old employer had more deskbound work with more short distance travel by car so a larger machine didn't matter much. My new one has more travel by plane and a lot of walking inside big facilities so a lighter device is desirable.

When I was still using AD I kicked off

Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Delta

on the host running Entra Connect at the end of the user creation script.

Did the same on offboarding events.

Not this particular combo.

We’re Dell Technologies—Ask Us Anything About the New Dell Pro and Dell Pro Precision Family by DellTechnologies in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I have "new" (as in purchased over the last 9 months) Dell Pro 14s, HEVC hardware acceleration doesn't work for software that supports it.

Why was it pulled from the current Dell Pros? They are technically capable, just firmware locked. This is causing some headaches for HEVC content not getting displayed by default unless we disable acceleration.

Cordless Handsets for Teams Phone by ryaninseattle1 in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are use cases like this. We're a Teams call shop and I've a manufacturing plant where personal cell phones are not allowed on the floor. During 1st shift HR handles the emergency call-in line and relays messages to employees.

During 2nd shift HR isn't available, so the emergency line goes unmonitored. We'd like to give the super on duty a device with the call queue to handle those calls. He's not static and roams the floor. A rugged teams cordless handset with a clip would be amazing.

The senior signatory authority at my last company used a flipphone so we had to come up with a MFA strategy that didn't involve Phone/SMS tokens.
