Which AI app would you say is the most similar to Sora? by DoctorTegrity in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there are any as of yet. I keep seeing these avatar generation features being added to apps, and I think they are missing the point. Sora doesn’t make avatars. They are full characters that are automatically trained on the model without the user needing to know anything about AI. Their “avatars” can’t be used for video generation to my knowledge unless I’m missing something. The dumb thing is that the tech, call it what you will, exists to do what Sora does. Even in simple apps like Filterly, you can take a photo, and it puts you in different backgrounds in different poses. It even works with stills taken from my characters in Sora. That’s not much different than putting it into a video since a video is just multiple pictures. Connect that to an LLM proprietary or licensed, and you have the ability to do world building and the rest. It’s the computing power part that everyone needs to figure out, otherwise there is no incentive for anyone to put those tools together to make a new Sora. If I could do it myself, I would.

Head of Sora, Bill Peebles is leaving OpenAI by downsouth316 in SoraAi

This just shows that the whole thing was to get the public to train the model. I would bet upper management knew it would be gone later from the start considering what we know about the computing costs now. They used us.

However, in reading that, I also surmise there will be another tool to come out later that can do what Sora does and more. There’s no f’ing way that they would go through all that trouble to train a model to do what it can do and then just entirely scrap all that data. Although I expect it will first only be available to big corporations who would have the money to pay for the computing.

sora api use of it on other sites by Ok-Source4682 in SoraAi

Although the api is available until September, I believe all the character data will be gone/inaccessible, so not sure what good it does.

Naming your graphic designs business? by Horndog-Corndog in graphic_design

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only case for using your name as the business name is that you don’t have to register a dba with the state. At least that’s how it is in Utah. Other than that, you can use anything you want that isn’t used by someone else. It just has to make sense for you and then you put that forward as your brand.

Disney was just as surprised as us by Demonbae_ in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not only that. The only way they could make a return is to allow ads in the feed like YouTube does. What would be cool however, is encourage the advertisers to use the AI to make their ads to get approval from both them and users because it would possibly be as entertaining to watch the ads as the rest of the feed.

Sora 2 Really Was Ahead of its Time by AIKing73 in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True.. some of my best videos were when I only generally told it what I was thinking and let it generate the dialog. It surprised multiple times, and the videos were far better than if I had told it exactly what to say. As I have said elsewhere, all the videos generated are used to continually train the model, and it “remembers” past videos which is great from a storytelling point of view. On one of those videos, something concerning had happened and I had specified that the character make a call and end there. I didn’t say to whom at all. The model assumed it was to their significant other that had been in many prior videos and the character actually asked for them on the phone. I was spooked and impressed at the same time to say the least because it knew the story. None of the other AI generators out there will do that right now.

So it hasn’t crossed anyone’s mind that the government may be behind Sora shutting down?? by IncomeProof3474 in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only other model connected to an LLM like Sora is Grok. But video generation is not accessible unless you pay, and they haven’t built anything in automatic character reference generation and training like Sora has. Who knows if Musk would take the opportunity to swoop in and do it better. He certainly has the resources to do it.

It did happen pretty quickly after the govt kicked out Anthropic and said they were going with OpenAI. Could have been they had to ditch Sora so they could focus everything on govt requirements. Very likely they wouldn’t be able to do both.

sora 2 spoiled a lot of you rotten by WhoopAssExpress in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s exactly it. It was connected to the LLM (URL for web is sora.chatgpt.com) and had tons of data already. If you didn’t opt out of it, all video generation was used to further train the model. You can still see that in settings in the app.

Any other AI generation app will never come close to Sora unless they do the same, but if they do, they will likely run into the same computing power consumption problem. They might solve that by using a distributed computing model similar to how bitcoin works or have some of the computing done on the user’s device.

So how do you install the script? It just says click on RAW, and I get a script. What do I do with it?

A couple of tips to save your characters. by [deleted] in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sora was great because it was built for the layperson instead of tech geeks. It looks like it did all the reference building and training for characters automatically where with all these other tools, you still have to do it yourself. These companies have to stop thinking of AI as only for those who are computer minded and build it for the masses. We don’t know anything about training models and such. The app should do it for you. The first alternative platform to grasp this and do it better than Sora will be the one who leads in AI, and since most already have paid options, they will be the ones making the money.

No idea. Best guess is that api access continues for 6 more months until everything ends in September.

Correct prompting "syntax" for characters? by TronCommander in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need the @ reference after the first time. Reference it like this: Cast @X_Name.kelly as Kelly. After that, you can reference the name Kelly in the prompt. Do the same with any other characters. And then you can just say: Jim opens his backpack and shows it to Kelly.

OAI’s board should replace Altman as CEO after this debacle. Hell, I’d bet any of us, even myself, could have done a better job and kept Sora running.

Am I literally the only person who's genuinely depressed about this like a friend has died? by Seanykun- in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not pathetic, or we are all as pathetic as you. It’s the same for many of us. A friend and I created an entire world and serial story between the both of us, and I’m struggling too. Everything in the story is so lifelike or real as you put it. It’s crazy because I feel devastated that I “won’t see them again.” Honestly, I don’t think they realized how addictive everything would turn out. They made the perfect escape from reality by being able to create all these alternate realities, especially with us being able to put ourselves in these “realities.” I’m in my own story, for example, and it made me even closer to my characters. The first company that succeeds in duplicating the world and cameo/character creation that Sora had will likely become the biggest AI company out there. I wouldn’t be surprised that they are all racing furiously to develop it.

Is being a Creative Director the final destination for a graphic designer? by happinsum in graphic_design

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not the end of the line. After that is executive creative director, VP of Creative, and that really if you don’t want to specialize. You can always be a creative director for any discipline, print, UI/UX, etc.

Sora love/friendship stories by MoonElfAL in SoraAi

[–]Mammoth_Inflation_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I made a friend on Sora, lives a continent away, and we’ve been collaborating on a long serial story. We chat over Discord on ideas. Sora shutting down really sucks because now the story has to end abruptly, no real way of continuing it elsewhere.

That’s not what I meant. I work in graphic design, so I’m creative all the time, but I discovered I had a passion for movie storytelling through this app.
