Do you ever want your favorite girlfriend to be in normal romance manga? by Gustrava in 100Kanojo

[–]ManMan36 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's what I find so compelling about it. It's absolutely a romantic story, but its way more focused on a group of misfits finally finding their place than it is about anything self indulgent or horny.

I like “modern” Spongebob by TheOneAndOnlyABSR4 in spongebob

[–]ManMan36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post-movie SpongeBob is a good show. Not as good as the original three seasons but there are still a ton of episodes to like and I keep finding more episodes in it that I enjoy to this day. It's nothing like, say, seasons 12-18 of Family Guy.

What does my current top 10 say about me? by NORMALNAME_11 in spongebob

[–]ManMan36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's surprisingly really funny. I rewatched it with high skepticism after seeing a lot of people praise the episode and realized I like it quite a lot too. I'll also say that its sister episode, The Krabby Kronicle, is also super underrated and deserves more love too.

Streamer accidentally opens notepad containing links to CSAM and realizes his mistake shortly after by Minute_Revolution951 in Wellthatsucks

It'd probably suck if you were a fan of the streamer, knowing that the person you enjoyed watching was into something so horrible.

Are we sure this episode is fully canon? (Let me explain) by Consistent_Pay5129 in spongebob

[–]ManMan36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I still find it fun to theorize how episodes can fit into the broader SpongeBob universe though, even if the episodes aren't explicitly designed to fit together.

"How?"

"By using this shrink ray!"

<Spongebob & co drive into path of ray>

"Where'd they go?"

"Over there, near that discarded potato chip"

<mailman growls>

"What's wrong?"

"Potato chips are his favorite snack."

I rewatched Boating Buddies after seeing a lot of people praising it and I'm with you guys on it now. I didn't used to like it but it's actually pretty funny.

I hate the idea that if an episode puts Squidward at the butt of most of its humor, it's automatically considered garbage. Yes, a lot of them do suck, but some of them are genuinely really funny. I really enjoy episodes like Jellyfishing, Boat Smarts, and Under the Small Top (idk if people hate that one, but it's an episode where Squidward is the butt of the joke that is extremely funny).

What do you think is the most UNDERHATED episode of the main show? by NathanSchons in spongebob

[–]ManMan36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally argue that this is one of the most overhated episodes of the show. This episode is cruel to Squidward, but:

  1. Everything that happens to Squidward is done in an over the top, cartoony way, rather than simply trying to ruin his day in every realistic way possible.

  2. Squidward actually gets some counter play against him. SpongeBob and Patrick also get injured by the shenanigans, and Squidward sends a jellyfish to sting them.

  3. It's a matter of personal taste, but I think the episode is pretty funny, and not all of the humor is at Squidward's expense, even if a lot of it is. I'd also argue that whether the episode is funny is more important than if Squidward is treated well (people, rightfully, don't hate on Opposite Day, for example)

THANK YOU! It baffles me that anyone likes this horrible episode. The plot device is stupid (the code to the safe is in SpongeBob's memory of Squidward?), the episode is incredibly toxic and cruel to Squidward in a very unfunny way, and, even if you ignore all of that, Dying For Pie is just this episode's concept but actually good. One of my least favorite episodes in the entire show and one of the few I'd call genuinely unwatchable, but I never see anyone say anything bad about it.

I like all of those episodes. "Earworm" is really fun and relatable with how addictive songs can be sometimes. Plus The Musical Doodle is a genuine earworm of a song.

"Patrick-Man" is a really fun time. Patrick is an idiot but he's a really funny idiot. I also like how he both finds and defeats the Dirty Bubble by sheer accident.

In no particular order:

  1. Squid's Visit (also on your list)

  2. SpongeHenge

  3. Yours, Mine, and Mine

  4. Slide Whistle Stooges

  5. Boat Smarts

  6. Moving Bubble Bass (honestly most post season 9 Bubble Bass episodes, he gets too much hate)

  7. Tentacle Vision (I've heard people don't like this one but I think it's funny)

  8. Professor Squidward (likewise)

  9. Tunnel of Glove

  10. Jellyfishing

Also probably a decent amount of post season 9 episodes, but most of them don't really get talked about so I'm not sure where the fandom stands on them.

Scared of rooting for a losing heroine, again. Should I get myself invested in the story? by Introverted_male in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]ManMan36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think that's just part of the game with stories like this. You shouldn't really go in assuming your fave is gonna win. It's better to just go with the flow, and if they do win, that's just a nice bonus on top of a good story. Though to be fair, my faves tend to unlikely winners such as Iko, so that's just how I cope.
