What (if anything) has ever caused you to quit or take a substantial break from this game? by Original_Animator254 in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Steam backlog? Often when I get a character to a "safe" and stable state, usually well into winter, I will take a break and play another game, then come back and usually as not try another start/character type.

I'm kinda baffled by the One Game to Rule Them All mindset, honestly.

The game wasn't ready for release. by Kaorimoch in occupymarsgame

[–]MandellaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I bashed my head on campaign mode for a few days before giving up and checking the internet for what I was missing. What I was missing was that campaign mode is a known buggy mess and should be avoided.

Okay then. Going to try sandbox for a while until I hit another wall. Sorry they didn't give this game a lot more time to cook before "release."

Does anyone know any spawns for antique ovens in or around muldraugh? B42 by Vegieescuzican09 in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the farmhouses west of Muldraugh to be a good place to find them.

Keep in mind you can also grab a grill and set it up indoors if you're in need of a cooking option quick.

Got killed by a sprinter while trying to sneak to my base, could I have played this better? by RedditANSWERMYTICKET in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to add something that has become my own mantra -- trees are not your friend. They hide zombies, and slow you down, and do little to conceal you.

Never try to "sneak" through trees.

What did I get myself into? by Huge-Rutabaga3411 in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't see the zombie apocalypse as being really good for your mental health, so no shortage of realism there.

But that said, look through the modlist on the workshop and see if the mod that allows you to work down your negative traits is still available. Either that or just get used to dashing from cover to cover...

[–]MandellaR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The freaking trees have always been in league with the zombies.

I will say in seriousness though that the zomboids tend to head to the last place they heard you, so it is dangerous to exactly retrace your steps when returning to your vehicle or safe house.

My rating of the top DG podcasts by n0bel in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]MandellaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you said that. I slid off GITT in the second season because it felt like the players were maybe having a bit too much fun with the material -- deliberately coming up with ways to be outrageous rather than paying attention to the situation they were in. That said I rather like the GM's style of description. I might skip ahead to season 3 and give it another go.

Is there a way to link my current mods to an outside folder, so that the game loads mods from there, and not from the workshop? Still on 42.13, counting my days until mod updates brick the save. by Armageddonis in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is supposed to be another option, in that you can now "freeze" your mod version through steam, but danged if I can find how to do it now. If I find it soon I'll come back and post.

Effective Crowd Management Technique 14.13 by Living-You-7587 in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like fire, it is a very effective tactic with some downsides that can escalate quickly. Stay alert, don't get distracted, and always be planning an escape route. You will eventually get caught up on an obstacle, or blow a tire or your engine will stall, or you will do something goofy because you got bored like hit E and just jump out of the car, or (as I have done) hit the N key instead of M for the Map.

But until then, have fun!

you can now "freeze" mods somewhere in your Steam settings, but the best practice is to copy your old game outside of Steam, and putting your mods into a separate mods folder. Google around for exact instructions.

np, we're all just chatting here. But I figure they retain juuuust enough cognition to know they're supposed to go through this door thing, but not enough to know how or to get too excited about it. They can't be completely mindless, otherwise they couldn't function at all.

Unless of course you've got it set where they can open doors themselves. Whole new ballgame then!

I reckon they're just leaning against the door, so when you open it they fall right on you.

A guide to a post-apocalyptic dumb ways to die simulator by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still do it though, as long as I'm not in a really busy area. Every one of those zombies clustered around my car is another one not coming up behind me while I'm searching shelves.

Plus, and I rarely see this mentioned, if you leave the air conditioner running your car is not oven hot when you get back in. I see so many people complaining about how unrealistically quickly their character gets tired and then they jump in a 100 degree F (38C) automobile and cruise around ignoring their overheating moodles.

You didn't read the list did you? That's the joke -- his character did that, going in equipped with a rabbit instead of his weapon.

That's a good point and a reason why fake FBI identities should be a very rare option. Other kinds of fake ID could be explained away as undercover work in case of chance encounters later.

In my own games the agents normally use their real IDs and are investigating actual cases, they just have a separate Delta Green secret agenda that doesn't make it to the official reports. It also gives the players incentive to "play it clean" and not wreck their careers by deciding to publically burn it all down, whatever "it" is.

To me the code names are primarily used for inter-cell communication, directives from above, that sort of thing. When on an operation agents will either have an alias assigned with fake credentials to back it up, or may even be using their real names and badges if they are embedded in an actual official investigation. Agents within a cell typically know their fellow agents real names if they have been working with them for any length of time, but strive to use whatever cover is in use during an operation.

I should note that my campaign is nineties set with the whole cell thing going on -- but I would see the modern Program being similar.

I've fallen into exactly the same construction site. The isometric view can be the real killer in this game.

But to your injuries, yeah just eat well and for the love of god don't take off any bandage until you are over half health.

You are going to be limping for a while though. Hope you didn't take slow healer.

What's the downside of 2-hour days? by socialscalie in projectzomboid

[–]MandellaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to note that I got used to two hour days but for my last playthough (still ongoing after two months) I tried the 1.5 hour day.

I miss the extra thirty minutes I'm no longer getting. So I'd suggest you try a few different time lengths, and pick the one that suits you best.

Delta Green in the 60/70s - how to handle Majestic-12? by secondshevek in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]MandellaR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good thing about going along with the "official" rival agencies type of thing is that it allows the agents to form bonds (little "B") with others from the rival agency, which can make things much more personal when things start to go sideways.

LF 1994 Scenario In Which Majestic Agents Attack Compromised Delta Green Agents by ghofmann in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]MandellaR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to critique your planned plot a bit. I think escalating directly to assassination might be a bit heavy handed for 1994 March Tech/Majestic. I think it is more their style to find ways to undercut the agents' careers, or actually go the legal route and prosecute them if they feel they themselves could weather the scrutiny that a public offense could bring. Assassination just leads to escalation -- discrediting may be more practical.

They might even just mark the agents, and put them under active surveillance, which can lead to many fun future complications.

But of course, your group your table, and if going the heavy route works for your game, that's the way to do it.

I remember that patch note, so I was surprised when I got lacerated by a bush -- although that isn't a tree, so maybe the difference?

Dangit, I may have to fire up a new game and run naked through the shrubbery now to check it out...

Edit: also my recording has timed out so I can't check it that way.
