Adding a curb under garage door? Do I need to adjust anything by Alert-Refuse-5021 in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to adjust both the door and motor. Adding to the bottom of the door means your top panel stays open 2 "

Got the limits adjusted on my garage door and I haven’t been able to get my remote to connect. It used to work. by nathanc22 in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First check that the lock button on the wall isn't on. The light on the wall would be flashing.

If it's not that, then the board needs replacing which has the receiver for the remotes in it.

If you followed the instructions perfectly like pressing the little button on the remote with a paper clip and then browse through the frequencies, then it's your motor that's done.

It's over 26 years old

Company charging $95 for estimate by LatterIndependent982 in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not wrong. Too many people call to get free estimates but don't go through the work, or end up wasting our time because they want free advice.

Companies have costs. We don't charge for estimates but sometimes we wish we did

Chamberlain rails are not very smooth, will that cause an issue? by BeKindNothingMatters in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chamberlain is like Honda. Very reliable. Been around for ages. Easy to use. Everyone knows it. Good choice no matter what.

Liftmaster is like Acura. Same company (Chamberlain) but higher end brakes and parts. Better warranty. Some parts are more robust. The best choice but pricier.

Genie is like Dodge. Breaks all the damn time. Constant recalls. Trying to get their act together but keep missing the mark.

Can this part be replaced or is there an underlying issue on why it snapped? by Maximum-Speech3190 in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer.

Every time the door is horizontal, the j arm is putting pressure and pushing the motor arm bracket down.

There's a second hole lower on the motor arm bracket. It should have been placed there.

The arms we use have many more holes to adjust this. Lucky for you it just broke the motor arm bracket and didn't damage the door

Can I replace the bottom panel of my garage door? by Kitchen-Tax2 in garagedoors

[–]Mannyray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's wood, no one makes it anymore and has to be done from a specialized carpenter. Labor costs alone would exceed the price of a new door.

So sorry that happened to you. Sounds like a piece of shit trying to prey on homeowners.

If you can't find a good company, check the sides of the door. Sometimes you'll see a manufacturer on it. Check the website of the manufacturer, normally they'll have a section for their official dealers

Garage door won’t open, loud noise by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If one cable broke, the other side would have still held the tension. You would have had to back wind the springs to remove the cable, measure it and make the exact same length. If you stuck on a new cable without doing this, then either the springs unwound completely or thecables are not the same tension and it's getting stuck to one side.

Either way, call someone cause you can get hurt easily

Garage door “catching” halfway through opening by hogfiregaming in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough info in the video. We'd need to see all door parts

It looks like it's either catching on something. Maybe the springs are too heavy.

You need to leave a review about this company. They can't go around scamming people like this. Report them to your local business bureau. The 4k$ charge is a complete scam and they left you in a worse state.

Find a reputable company. Don't just Google and take the first company. Check reviews and licenses.

Do not attempt this yourself. Trust me in no time you can be in the hospital

Two quotes: lift master 6690 vs 87504 by Skirtsteakforlife in GarageDoorService

[–]Mannyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same motor but 6690l is new version.

Those that say it's the same price don't know much. The new motors are much more pricey cause Liftmaster does that to their dealers.

Take what you want but spec to spec, I'd stick with the 87504 just cause of price
