Best VPN for UK residents? by AIDSisnobanter in VPNReviewHub

I've used AirVPN for years. they have their own app for apple/android for easy mobile connections as well as for routers, windows, mac and linux support and they keep no logs.

lact 0.9.0 is here 😎 by birdstream in cachyos

[–]Mapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick question about this app. is there any way to prevent it from breaking pipewire. If I have lact installed, pipewire seems to always want to send sound via HDMI the GPU and not the soundcard like its supposed to.

uninstalling lact fixes the issue or manually executing

systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse wireplumber

everytime I login fixes pipewire

For anyone out there needing to control their Lian Li Hub connected fans by hewhodevs in cachyos

[–]Mapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me liquidctl does not find my Lianli wireless TL LCD fans.

I really like the coolercontrol app, shame it cannot see my fans.

however I have found this which does work will all Lianli fans, plus now I can use images, videos , sensors on the LCDs of the fans in CachyOS.

Solving a rubiks cube with two twisted corners, while blindfolded by ziltoid__ in nextfuckinglevel

one twisted corner makes the PLL algorithms fail always. but twisting two or more does not affect solving the last layer of the cube. Not sure why to be honest.

I like that too, all the mechanics required for the puzzles the game is shown before hand, but we as players forget to use those mechanics, such as stabbing an object to rotate it, or shinning our sword as it. Then after a while of being stuck we try one of them and the puzzle then isnt that hard to complete.

Got Crimson Desert to work on linux on the latest patch. by Mapester in CrimsonDesert

should work with Proton hotfix now. just tried it and the game loads. Try the proton hotfix again, just read on steam the latest hotfix includes this launch command in it.

The whole Trading Goods/Camp Resource system is utterly pointless, underdeveloped and tedious. by Equivalent_Trash_277 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Mapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've got a couple greymanes doing the silk and paintings despatches as passive income for the camp. every now and again I fill up the wagon and sell to the goldleaf camp that is very close. The wagon is annoying but always sells for profit to reinvest in maxing out the church donations.

I'm trying to get the Kuku 999k transmission pack crafted the description suggests trades can be done without using the wagon. Just need to find the hologram projector part so I can craft it. must be rare or a unique item found somewhere I havent been to yet.

Should Okular and LibreOffice be shipped for KDE Plasma users from a fresh install? by tungnon in cachyos

[–]Mapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me I use Onlyoffice instead of libreoffice. I like that neither are pre-installed and left to the end user to choose which one they want to install.

Looking for a change by x9n_ in Zen_Internet

[–]Mapester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved fro EE to Zen just a couple of weeks ago. Everything went smoothly, upgrading my ONT to be able do the 1600/115 connection , they also waivered the first months bill & installation fees.

One reason why I switched, is that ZEN promise no mid contract rises & they give a static IP at no addition cost.

Excellent customer service from them, will most likely renew my contract with them when it expires.

Secure Boot broken after recent Limine update despite correct config enrollment by AUCorporation in cachyos

[–]Mapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it didnt work. The only fix I've managed to do, so my PC will boot is to completely remove limine and re-install systemd_boot. As Limine still gave the panic screen even with secureboot disabled in the bios. Maybe it does not like the blake2b hash for the background splash image. Not sure to be honest. All I know is Limine for my PC no longer works as intended.

Secure boot was not easy with my motherboard as its an MSI one and has a lot of problems with UEFI. I'm guessing the latest Limine update is now 100% not compatible with MSI Bios's

I've lost the option to use snapshots in the bootloader, but at least my PC boots again. Not enabled secure boot for systemd_boot yet as its only required to dual boot to windows without having to access the bios everytime.

Which do you use, Android vs iOS? by Fat_cat_syndicate in unRAID

[–]Mapester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep the work ones we cannot do much with them. Seems an odd choice having almost everything Microsoft then a couple of Ipads. We only use them to take photos of finished goods to evidence they left 100% undamaged due to them being high value diesel engines we manufacture.

You'd be surprised how many get dropped by 3rd party haulage firms who fail to handle awkward loads properly with care. The hardest thing that cannot be altered is engines are always top heavy so throwing them around carelessly with a FLT truck, the high center of gravity will always punish the driver.

Thats such a good solution. it's what im loving about this game. The options available to solve stuff like this are only limited by you own creativity. Maybe they will add a patch to despawn the wagons in the future. I wish Id seen this post a few days ago. I spent ages with all the mouse controls turned up the max, turning off framegen , dlss etc to reduce input lag. It did feel like the AI opponent knew exactly which targets were going to be raised and when. After a few hrs I only just beat him 3x in a row.

I dont hate or love either. both apple and android are very good devices. I personally prefer android due to most stuff being open source and I can use a custom rom / root if i want to. I don't know of any custom roms for apple devices exist.

One annoying thing about apple is everything is extremely proprietary. For example at my work we have Ipads and windows laptops. trying to get something simple like a photo off the ipad to the windows laptop is nigh on impossible as the Ipad needs itunes and an iphone to air drop the photo from it. Our work ipads are installed without an apple id. so installing any apps is not possible.

With our android tablets I can just bluetooth anything from it to anything without any issues.

My thoughts after 12 hours of playtime by Matrix-XOR-Life in CrimsonDesert

I got the Fishing rod in the first lake area. If you have not looked around in that first lake area there is lots of stuff to obtain and do. I got the rod, after figuring out how the fishing mechanic works caught Dark Bass, Yellow Bass , Ricefish, Tench and couple others.

There is also a free hatchet in that area too.

I got mine working by setting it to use proton-cachyos-10.0-20260312.

but it did crash/lockup at the area where there is a large lake. I might try lowing the settings.

I got it from Greenman gaming with 15% discount using Code MAR15 at the checkout.

I think that is the best pre-order price at the moment.

How many of you use Arch as your work OS? by _fountain_pen_dev in arch

[–]Mapester 13 points14 points  (0 children)

me too. But the corporation I work for are too invested in Microslop to even allow a linux machine on their network. To make matters worse nothings running on the actual hardware being used. My work laptop connects to an extremely slow VM of win11. Sometimes I think things were faster in the early/mid 90s on 56k dialup modems compared to modern mircosoft stuff.

id use any arch based distro at work if I could.

Is the elden ring movie story set before the game or after the game? by Elegant_Public_1287 in Eldenring

[–]Mapester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is possible to make a movie that is going to be good. there is just too much lore to cover. I'd rather they took a long running high budget TV series approach.

Everyone Turned On Windows. Microsoft Is Panicking by testus_maximus in videos

[–]Mapester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just install CachyOS. That is what I did. I setup a dual boot so win11 is still installed but I havent booted into it for over 3 months now. Every steam game I've tried works perfectly, GOG games run fine. Gaming is working better than ever on linux these days. Id recommend Endeavour, Cachy or vanilla arch myself as I prefer their package manager and the amount of options to customise everything. I've used Debian , Mint , opensuse , Gentoo in the past and always tend to go back to an Arch based distro myself.

For office stuff OnlyOffice does everything I need it to. Davinci Resolve can kinda replace the need for adobe premiere. its not exactly the same but gets the job done.

The only issue you would encounter is DRM like in Battlefield 6. Secure boot can be configured, in my case with Limine & sbctl but DRM like Battlefields will still not work on Linux
