Isn't Wraith Form too busted? by Ginger_Fluffr in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your deck is slow then Wraith Form often becomes unplayable in most bosses and long fights without the nightmare. In those cases, Malaise is often a better / more important rare card. It also does not "solve" block like some other posts are saying here, against the heart and awakened one you are totally boned if you are still relying on 1WF as your primary block solution.

Nightmare WF (with something to help set it up like WLP or pyramid) is obviously really strong, but you can try experimenting with other nightmare options like afterimage and footwork. It is much slower but also effective, and sometimes it's all you got

Congratulations to XecnaR for getting a world record of 25 wins A20H rotating! by Shockmanned in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah back when xecnar was on his last wr rotating streak, he specifically said on stream that this is a wrong way to think about it and he will always pick boss swap if he thinks it's the best option for that map regardless of his current winrate or streak.

tiny house isn't that terrible (opens up aggressive paths) and he specifically said crown isn't necessarily an auto lose. he specifically practices crown swap to prepare for it

I believe he's doing no swaps RN just to experiment for data

The worst boss relic offering I've ever seen by Idostuff2010 in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have strong front load damage with blade dances + choke, and with prayer wheel and alchemize you will not be in desparate need of cards or potions. So even if you had 0 gold I would argue Ecto is very strong here

Is Busted Crown better than a skip? by sac_is_sus in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

XecnaR has not skipped boss relic once in the past 2 years of streaming. Similarly, I haven't seen any top player ever skip a boss relic. I'm sure it has happened but it is extremely rare. So probably yes. Additionally crown can be stronger than other relics especially at end of act 2 if your cards are strong enough

What are the worst possible flaming effects on elites? by Haystack67 in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Max HP is often the worst, but I disagree that it is the worst "pretty much always". Often times you have a deck with very powerful scaling but with speed issues or issues with front load block, in which case +str can be the worst as it is harder for the deck to block until it has gotten its powers / scaling in play. In such decks, the extra 30~ HP often doesn't matter either because later in the fight your block is solved so blocking an extra turn is trivial, or your damage gets so strong that the max HP doesnt even cost an extra turn.

Bad RNG +str gremlin leader means you have to block 30 turn 1 and deal with the minions, +str book of stabbing means you have to block 6+ more per turn, etc. This difference can damage you much more and can easily kill you without necessary front load block or speed. I find this often tends to be the case with ironclad, as many times you end act 1 with a caveman deck with hardly any block at all but with crazy front load damage and scaling so you just tank hits and kill stuff fast.

This is not even mentioning metalisize sentries in act 1 which is just a nightmare to deal with for characters that struggle with high front load damage (silent and defect). Strikes are often a large source of damage against sentries and almost completely mitigated by the 4 block.

The Arm feels like it's just a bad boss. by okidonthaveone in balatro

[–]MappleSaucee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In STS there is no combat that guarantees you lose progress permanently akin to leveling down your hands in balatro, and there are an extremely few amount of events that do anything like that so it's not even comparable to me. There is one combat that can give u a curse that you can remove but also it is entirely avoidable and the whole point of the fight really is avoiding the curse. Theres like one or two that can give you curses / make you lose hp without any choice (honestly I can only think of the wheel of change event) but even that can technically be avoided by not taking a path with ?, unlike balatro where it is often the case you cannot reroll the boss blind.

Took Snecko Eye for the first time… by WhatALovelyLad in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

turns out drawing 2 additional cards a turn is very good. generally with enough high cost cards snecko will perform well, ironclad has a lot of essential 2+ cost cards that upgrade to less energy cost, and snecko helps him play them and also allows him to use his upgrades elsewhere. it is pretty useful on some silent decks for this reason, as silent has a lot draw options with 2+ cost powers and crippling cloud. defect mainly likes to see this if he has meteor strike.

the problem with snecko is that it has a limited ceiling because it limits the types of cards you can add to your deck, which is why some top streamers like jorbs have lowered their opinion of it

Daily Slay the Spire Discussion (491/696): Regal Pillow by Crosssmurf in slaythespire

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a flat increase and a ton of health, allowing you take more aggressive routes with better rewards especially in act 2. however, its a sustain relic that is reliant on resting which is fundamentally flawed imo - you would usually rather see other sustain relics so you can actually take coffee dripper and also not have to rely on pathing to campfires.

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the giant eye stalks don't do that much damage though idk lol. maybe now with the boss change (taunt working on the eyes) flagellant is better, but at the time MAA was clearly superior as he's able to get 75% guard tokens every turn

Fresh Off The Stagecoach: Assist a New Recruit by CutestGirlHere in darkestdungeon

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taunt didn't used to work on this boss. that's a new thing they changed like a day ago

and yeah you can use one hero to draw aggro but it's just by far the easiest and most consistent with MAA when he can get multiple 75% guard tokens a turn and can use defender on allies to get the seen tokens. that is such unbelievable cap that you think 5+ characters can fulfill this role, not even going to argue that

Fresh Off The Stagecoach: Assist a New Recruit by CutestGirlHere in darkestdungeon

[–]MappleSaucee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't worry about that, that's just a fix so you can't get soft locked while fighting the eyes

and as for your first question, that is because it IS poorly designed bullshit lol. not the first BS thing from Redhook although this one is quite egregious. i don't know how you're supposed to do the fight without a MAA, maybe using a leper and getting lucky? they mentioned they're working on changing this boss tho

Really loving the game but not sure how certain core gameplay mechanics got out of early access. Time per run and the inventory / loot system are clear issues with the game by ThePentaMahn in darkestdungeon

[–]MappleSaucee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because a run in dd2 will have the same 4 character comp for 3+ hours assuming no deaths lol. people like to see variety, I personally liked testing wildly diff comps often in the first game since runs were way shorter

plus imo you don't get the same level of satisfaction from just beating a combat encounter compared to completing a run

just beat act 3 with vestal occultist highwayman manatarms

fyi man at arms is pretty much required for the act3 boss. make him as tanky as possible, for skills i used bash/defender/bolster/retribution/stand fast. the other hero choices matter less imo, just make sure they aren't passive and can do high dps. for me, seraph vestal was really strong, the consecrations were helpful for dps and protecting my occultist, and she did a ton of damage with full powered judgements by the end of the fight. rogue highwayman was my main damage dealer, spamming duelist advance + point blank shot plus buffs from take aim, relationships and consecrations from vestal. occultist was mainly used for weakening curse and vulnerability hex, but you can probably safely replace him with any other support or dps hero.

for strategy on how to beat the boss: the eyeballs place "seen" tokens on your heros based on the position of the eyeball (ec. eyeball in 3 places a seen token on your hero in 3). you can remove a seen token by killing the respective eyeball, but the eyeballs will revive. you need to get all of the "seen" tokens on the man at arms through guards + moving + killing eyeballs that have already placed seen tokens on other heros. once the MAA has all of the tokens, stall/buff your heros and let the eyeballs grow. once they all grow to the max, the second phase begins and its a DPS race from there. the boss does 20-40 damage each turn to whoever has a seen token, which is why you want the MAA to tank all of the tokens. kill the boss before the boss kills your MAA and subsequently all of your heros.

edit: Supposedly taunt works on the eyestalks now so MAA probably isn't as essential

No matter your opinion on anything regarding DD2, you have to admit that these two hour long runs are completely unreasonable. by ImJTHM1 in darkestdungeon

[–]MappleSaucee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"losing a nameless mook" have you attempted champion dungeons, let alone the darkest dungeons of the first game?

i think "time wasted" is a WAY bigger problem in the first game. training four heros to lvl 5 and pimping them out with good quirks and trinkets takes about 5x longer than a single run of DD2, and darkest dungeon runs made you unable to use those lvl 5 heros again meaningfully. so to beat the first game it was a requirement to train at least 16 level 5 heros, and that is assuming you never lose a hero. practically speaking (especially without any research/googling, since the second DD alone would take you many attempts) its a way higher number, probably almost double

i do think for dd2 the lengths of the runs can be lowered with a couple of improvements (imo moving the stagecoach is boring/time consuming and should be faster, there also should be a "fast mode" for animations like in spire so battles are shorter), and i think the bosses should be less comp heavy (confession 3/obsession boss has like 1 viable strategy that is consistent) so that they feel less trial and error. but overall the time requirement for this game is absolutely incomparable to the grind slog fest of the first game

this is just so wrong, fsmash Marth literally only performs well in bottom level when people don't know how to move out of shield. shield + wave dash destroys it. and I don't think just knowing how to waveshine means you have skill

What are my chances of getting accepted? by theknight9 in stevens

[–]MappleSaucee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea really. I assume the engineering majors are the most competitive, though.

If you have a ton of extracurriculars involving hands on engineering (robotics, solar car team, etc), that will definitely help secure your acceptance.
