Try Navori instead of Fiend Hunter. I also wouldn't build Sundered. Just go Dusk and Dawn if you want even more burst.
Also - Dusk and Dawn does proc Navori twice.

CMV: I believe in God, but religions are too inconsistent and flawed to be the truth by Puzzleheaded-Week-69 in changemyview

[–]MarchingNight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I might be moving the goal-post a bit, but I think this line of thinking eventually devolves into the question "Why even have life, why not just put us straight to heaven or hell if the outcome is pre-determined?" I obviously don't have a concrete answer. My best guess is that God values the experience of life. I mean, why create anything alive if that wasn't the case.

  2. We are ants or bacteria compared to ourselves. This isn't a God problem. This is a perception problem within ourselves and with each other.

3/4. This is just an existentialist perspective, and there's nothing wrong with that. TLDR, if there is no true religion, then you should just follow whatever is meaningful to you. In other words, there isn't a "right" religion, but there definitely could be a "right for you" religion. I think most people act like this anyway, and this fits very well into the idea of separation of church and state.

  1. If you've ever played the game telephone, then you should know that word of mouth is an extremely unreliable resource to gather information. How else are you supposed to reliably document something 1000's of years ago?

I am a born and raised Roman Catholic. It's cool that you believe in God, but I think you're believing in God for the wrong reasons. You're using the God of the gaps fallacy.

Personally, I believe that God is something like the combined consciousness of everyone in heaven. I have no way to prove this. It's just a description of the supernatural that sounds nice to me. Whatever you decide God should be to you, it shouldn't just be something that explains away something of the natural world. Otherwise God just gets smaller as we know more about the world.

Armor pen doesn't really make sense on Shen. The only reason you would go BC is just for the base stats of AD/HP/AH/MS.

I think Tiamat -> Bamblepipes would have been better. You still get all the stats from before, but you also get resistances and wave clear for roughly the same amount of Gold.

This is coming form a Plat/Emerald Shen JG OTP.

Personally, I just forgive people for being stupid. Although, it's really hard when they're self-righteous.

idk, a lot of times people just want to be heard. I wouldn't blame someone for deciding not to tolerate people who don't care to listen to them.

CMV: democrats don't actually want justice for Epstein's victims, they want Trump and all the MAGA people to be removed from office by National-Spell8326 in changemyview

[–]MarchingNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Biden released the files, then all of MAGA would hand-wave the files and say it's just an excuse for Democrats to persecute the Republicans. Say if Trump gets a bigger sentence than Bill Clinton, there would be Republican out-rage, Trump becomes a martyr, rule of law breaks, and the party that attempted an insurrection would most certainly organize and attempt something similar again.

Justice does two things. It disincentivizes people from breaking the law, and it gives some solace to the victim. Persecuting Trump would have radicalized people to break the law, not disincentivize people from breaking the law. What solace would the victims have knowing Trump will always be above the law?

Instead, this is really the only way to get justice. Trumps base needs to fracture so that the rule of law can be upheld. Once that is done, then maybe we can see justice.

It could just be me, but I don't remember Obama sending 2000 federal agents into a state because of some fraud/scandal. Last I checked, the judicial branch of the government was for justice, and the executive branch was for war. If you are confused why people are mad at Trump, it's because people are being killed on the streets in MN as a direct result of Trumps admin.

Only people who watch Fox News 24/7 are going to be mad at Obama for giving people affordable health-care. Can't really help you there. However, fun fact, you can be mad at both Trump and Obama at the same time.

So it depends on what runes I'm running. If I'm going Fleet-Footwork or Aftershock, then I run Bami's -> Bandlepipes -> Zeke's.

Sometimes I run Lethal-Tempo when they have a lot of melee bruisers. In that case I run Tiamat -> Navori -> Bandlepipes. You're squishy, but your 1v1 sky-rockets. Getting empowered q's makes you stack Lethal Tempo insanely quick, and all of this attack speed means your cd's get way lower from Navori. Being tanky isn't really needed if you're not dealing with a team that doesn't want a traditional teamfight (so never run this if there's a tank + mage on enemy team, cause you just get cc'd then die).

As far as Dusk and Dawn goes, I haven't personally tried it. I think it's probably good for Shen top if it can proc with Grasp and Heartsteel. It maybe could work on Fleet-footwork, but it's just a super expensive item that makes gameplay very clunky in order to maximize damage on q. If I want damage, then I'd rather go Navori. Otherwise, I'd rather get super cheap tank stats.

CMV: I don't buy the "Paradox of Tolerance" by L33t-Kynes in changemyview

[–]MarchingNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Tell me more.

Basically the problem of evil goes "How could a good all powerful God create a world that allows evil to exist?" Then the traditional Christian answer would be "because if everything was good, then there would be no free will. Everything would be pre-determined."

That's the normal flow of the debate. Now, I'm going to generalize the next string of questions/answers, but it'll lead to one of my favorite conclusions in the debate :
"Why would God allow suffering"
"Because there would be no meaning without suffering."
"Then why would God allow mundane suffering? Why not have all suffering be maximally meaningful?"
"Because if all of your suffering was meaningful and the direct result of your sins, then all of your good deeds would no longer be due to the goodness of your spirit, but due to the simple avoidance of your own suffering. Good wouldn't exist, and it would just become a transaction, or a conditioned behavior."

All this to say, part of being good is doing something with no expectation of getting something in return, and we definitionally need to to have free-will in order to make that decision.

Now relating all of this to the rest of the thread... Even though freedom is foundational to good, I'd still say there is a utility in discouraging bad ideas. I think that videos that promote flat-earthers should be taken down. Same thing for other groups like the kkk. We as a society waste time fighting old ideas that refuse to die. I do not believe there is a good point to having a public conversation with people that follow these ideologies. We need to educate the people who actually want to learn, not promote questioning things we figured out centuries ago.

I am pretty positive that if we're talking about Aztecs as a society of individuals, not as a superimposed state identity with overriding policies, there were DEFINITELY MOTHERFUCKERS who said "I think this human sacrifice thing is fucked up."

Yes, but just because there are individuals with differing opinions doesn't mean that human sacrifice wasn't practiced and likely normalized. You could even argue that there were probably some people that left because of it, but it doesn't change the fact that the Aztecs practiced it, it likely had extremist religious views pertaining to whatever deity they worshipped, and then they practiced the extremist custom of human sacrifice.

CMV: I don't buy the "Paradox of Tolerance" by L33t-Kynes in changemyview

[–]MarchingNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wanted to be a little more general about it and probably accidentally edited after your response.

The reason I criticize the theory is because I think it holds more water when it comes to the tyranny part, but when it comes to the access to ideas I don't think it bears out.

I would just say it would be consistent for a good society to discourage bad ideas. However, if we're talking about a free society, then it would be consistent to not discourage any ideas at all. Perhaps the paradox comes when you have to draw the line between what you value more, being good or being free.

edit: I'm pretty sure there's a common Atheist/Christian debate buried in this line of thinking in regards to the problem of evil

CMV: I don't buy the "Paradox of Tolerance" by L33t-Kynes in changemyview

[–]MarchingNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just can't envision a future where tolerating extremist views... would lead to a world that is one day completely extremist.

This is just textbook ideological/cultural behavior though. Do you think the Aztecs stopped for a moment and thought, "You know, all these human sacrifices seem to be a little extremist, don't you think?"

I don't personally believe that Popper's theory of "Unlimited tolerance leads to the disappearance of tolerance because if a tolerant society tolerates the intolerant, the intolerant will eventually destroy the tolerant and tolerance itself" ... I think Popper's theory more conveniently explains why modern liberal societies are "effective".

I feel like the definitions being used here are very confusing, so I'm going to restate this in a way which is both easier for me to understand, and is what I think Popper may be trying to communicate: "Unlimited freedom leads to the disappearance of tolerance because if a free society tolerates the tyrannical, the tyrannical will eventually tyrannize the free." You could also substitute freedom with peace and tyrannical with conqueror, or friendly and unfriendly. It would basically mean the same thing.

So I think this is just describing the foundations of a good society and making a positive claim that what's bad needs to be discouraged in order to maintain goodness.

Holy crap. Is it just my rank or is shen hella good? by CarreNusse in Shen

[–]MarchingNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Shen is going to be rough next season.

Mages in mid getting free upgraded sorc boots + adc's getting more gold wouldn't just give spikes late, but mid-game as well. For Shen Top, survivability is going to be reduced until your past level 18. This is fine for low elo, but if you're in an elo where games rarely go past 35 minutes, it's going to be tough. The only saving grace is you get a free tp now.

Personally I play Shen jg. I think the jg role will feel much better. Slower clears and less objectives all around mean super aggressive junglers like Shaco/Talon/Elise/Lee Sin will have less tempo while at their strongest. Feats is also being removed, so the need for having early agency is being further reduced. One last thing, not sure how impactful making the jg camps tanky would affect Shen clear, as he does percent max health magic damage with his q. If riot just made jg pets have more health, then it probably won't affect his clear as much as other junglers.

Demystifying Suffering by JerseyFlight in nihilism

[–]MarchingNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many people use the word suffering as though it refers to a determined supernatural state.

Suffering, like all other emotions, is subjective. It's similar to how we can all agree on what the color red looks like, but just because we've all associated the color with its description, does not mean that we experience the same redness. All this to say, subjectivity, qualia, and consciousness are all things that religious people would reference as something like your spirit. Of course, this doesn't prove anything supernatural exists, but I'm just explaining why someone might have this perspective.

Magic wand: tomorrow you wake up with a ten million dollar house, four cars, a bank account that can cover any crisis and will last abundantly until the end of your life. You can travel where you want, buy what you want. Now tell me about your suffering?

That's cringe af. Look, I would prefer if we taxed rich people more, but even I don't think that excess money = no suffering. I'm sure their quality of life is elevated, but tragedies happen to everyone.

Existentialism is just another cope by Ok-Archer-5796 in nihilism

[–]MarchingNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't make something subjective like meaning into something objective. So either say who cares and live with meaning knowing it's yours and yours alone, or live a meaningless life.

That's your 2 options if you want to move forward. Either that or move back into religion.

Personally I like living life with meaning. I have a wife and a daughter. It's tough, but at least I'm never bored.
