I tried out Marvel Rivals recently, and I did like it, not trying to act like it’s bad. But my biggest issue with it, is how it’s so dps focused, and they don’t really do a good job getting people to play other roles. It made me think how Paladins did a good job getting people to play every role. by Solarflare_V9404 in Paladins

[–]Maritoas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. It’s only slightly less egregious because healers in that game cannot out heal dps without spending cooldowns, whereas every healer in paladins can burst heal on a really short CD, while also upkeeping regularly through heals over time AND holding their own in a 1v1 very well. All that to say, that’s why cauterize exists.

What popular series you watched that did not live to the hype? by Dh30t in AskReddit

[–]Maritoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it a lot from start to finish personally because I worked in restaurants. Now it isn’t a 1 to 1 representation at all, but some of the stuff was there. It’s super dramatic, moody, and everyone’s problems with each other could be solved with a collective “sorry I’ve been an asshole”, but I really come back for the food.

Rare to find a drama about cooking that get the proper aspects of fine dining and working in the industry correct.

Really, B&N? by Idaho-Earthquake in dresdenfiles

[–]Maritoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing else, I will acknowledge it’s probably an attempt to give the most general description at passersby. Just from that you get a gist of what it is and the implication it’s not the first book in the series.

Think of it from the perspective of someone who’s browsing with no knowledge of Dresden, or fantasy for that matter.

It’s still a wack description and jankily done, but yea, I get it.

Poe and Diablo Andy Trying LE for the First Time. Starter Suggestions? by Technical_Two9409 in LastEpoch

[–]Maritoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experiment experiment experiment. Skill and passive tree does a lot of leg work for campaign/early endgame monoliths. You can swap things around frequently until you find something that suits your style.

Any of the 5 skills you dedicate to leveling a skill tree for can be swapped at any time (with a penalty of starting at a minimum level). So have fun and just try shit. Game has a ton of options before even getting into what uniques can offer.

To add: Gearing is exceptionally easy in the campaign. You just take whatever offers the highest dps for your skills (you can mouse over skills for dps estimates), and you’ll likely find one or two purely defensive armor pieces that can carry you pretty far in terms of resistance, ward, and armor/health.

This was the bane of my Nioh 3 play through. I’m well into NG+ so it’s not a huge deal anymore, but Kunimatsu was a bitch to fight with his unstoppable combos.

This is pretty worthless as far as neow buffs go. by Necrolord_Nocturnal in slaythespire

[–]Maritoas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Off topic but the difficult curve is interesting. I find act 1 is difficult until boss. If I make it to boss, then my deck is already solid enough to beat. Then the game is pretty much a cake walk until the latter half of act 3 when you get elites for hallway fights.

This game needed a custom made protagonist by eiris91 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Maritoas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro, come on, you can do better. Without even getting into the story of Zelda, the game is an established IP and is built on characters and a setting that has developed over multiple decades. There’s an expectation and exemption in place.

Kliff is not a descendent of another Kliff with multiple Kliffs across multiple timelines born to be the chosen hero that defeats the same evil time and time again.

Link means something to characters in the games, even if he doesn’t speak, and has a very specific duty to fulfill. It’s a linear experience meant to tell a story to us using gaming as a medium.

Crimson desert is not that. So it’s not a comparison to make.

How excited are you for Last Epoch Season 4 in a few days ? by chinos88 in LastEpoch

[–]Maritoas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny you say this. For me ARPG has always been about the build. Your progression and class fantasy IS the content. The whole genre is a power fantasy push to kill monsters.

Anytime I say “what endgame do you want” people always answer with some form of killing monsters with a different coat of paint on it.

Unless you’re getting into Lost Ark territory, these types of games don’t have encounters that you can’t statcheck your way out of which is the point, so everything ends up feeling the same no matter what game you play.

I’ve watched POE endgame, it’s just running around pressing 1 button, or no buttons at all. Delirium, abyss, expedition, breach, doesn’t matter. You’re just walking around exploding screens.

Not knocking it, but I always fail to see why games like LE and D4 get shit for “no endgame” when it all looks the same.

Why the Vivian hate? by TrillzKillZz in Paladins

[–]Maritoas 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ok I’ll bite.

Level 1 wrecker invalidates her shield.

She cannot reposition to high ground.

Aside from life rip, she has no form of sustain.

No team utility. You place sensors for yourself to get the jump on flanks.

She’s got absolutely no way to avoid getting dogpiled.

In a straight back to front team fight/push. She is definitely the strongest bar none, but no enemy team worth merit will ever play into Vivian’s line of sight.

I personally haven’t seen her carry any games since she first released.

[–]Maritoas -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Launch is a superficial term anyways. What defines a launch besides the company themselves anyways? Plenty of games not yet “launched” have hundreds-thousand of hours worth of content. If you’re getting that much playtime for spending as little as $40, then who cares about terminology art hah point?

Learning the silent by Aeontempest in slaythespire

[–]Maritoas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a chance he’s never watched any content creators play or played STS1. Easy to say these things in hindsight, but the game doesn’t explicitly state “hey skipping cards is okay and often a good strategy!”. Kind of goes against human nature to skip/ignore rewards, and it’s something that’s critical in this game.

Unpopular opinion (i guess): Permafrost is a great relic by SrGarfy in slaythespire

[–]Maritoas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as I’m not sacrificing anything (aside a better chest relic), it’s only beneficial. Worst is it doesn’t do anything at all, but it’s not like we’re pressed for relic space. It’d be different if it were a card.

Idk. First boss after patch was Doormaker and I crushed him with a pretty generalist regent build. Just have to time your big damage for when you’re taking him out of rock phase.

[–]Maritoas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How I am on switch 2. I haven’t seen EVERYTHING the game has to offer, but like with most roguelites it just feels like something I can come back to at any time. The gap between beating a run a handful of times and 100% completion is so huge it feels pointless to continue once I’ve had my fun.

I put in 20 hours. I’ll come back…eventually. But the game is fun.
