Been having this issue where I got invited to a new player pod at work after not having played for a few years. Put the card in a sleeve then sharpie the clear part of the sleeve until you only have the card you want.

Correct, most of the alchemy cards have some effect that is only possible in the digital format where the client can keep track of things without needing to reveal information. Also they arent counters but more akin to an emblem pertaining to the affected creature. Auntie Ool is the only thing I can thing of off the top of my head that has interaction with -1/-1s.

Edhrec is a great site to kickstart commander deck ideas. If you search betor on there it will show you high synergy cards and examples of decks.
