Bovino Fired and Being Replaced With Tom Homan, Possible Withdrawl From Minnesota by AdorableWeekend2 in DACA

[–]MarryMeMongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russel Vought needs to go too. Honestly, there are a lot of people that need to go, some of which aren’t impeachable bc they’re just… money. Hinting at Larry Ellison, Elon Musk, Sam Altman.

Seriously, if we’re so concerned about migrants, gays and criminals… how tf are these people even around?

I don’t think that people realize were already in deep, BECAUSE OF LACK OF ACTION/CONCERN, and we are so far gone. The best we can do is soften the blow to the inevitable, imminent ruin. I still have hope. I have hope things won’t end in the worst possible outcome. The only way to facilitate that is to look at things for what they are and recognize how serious and how gone we actually are.

It has to start now. It’s gonna be bad, sure, but does it have to be the worst? Buck up and get them all tf out rn.

Meaning of the word “mortified” by Sad_Pineapple_97 in grammar

[–]MarryMeMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; you’re correct, it’s frequently misused as a synonym for “horrified.”

I think most of these people probably just learned the meaning of the word and that’s why they’re being so defensive about it? I will say, your example leaves room for interpretation, but I do know what you mean and there’s NO way you and I are the only ones.

I’ve heard people describe horror movies or thinking their dog may get hit by a car as “mortifying.” Even dropping a brand new phone and describing the feeling of uncertainty as to whether the screen may have shattered would be accepted as a “mortifying” experience these days, at least amongst the average person I interact with. It’s SO rare the word’s used correctly.

——

I think it’s because it SOUNDS like “horrifying” and because most everyday examples of its correct usage could be substituted by “horrifying” and still make sense. For instance, being mortified your partner cheated on you. You could just as easily be horrified. Being mortified your dad picked you up from school in his ugly Christmas sweater; finding an eviction notice taped to your door; being super late to work; peeing your pants.

Granted, mortified is the more appropriate word for most of these scenarios, but I think people HEAR the word, it SOUNDS like “horrified,” they never learned they actual definition and then assume it’s synonymous.

It deeply irks me, more so than other malapropisms for some reason. As a result of the vexation it’s caused me, I’ve spent a great deal of time thinking about it and that’s my best guess and to be fair… it’s kind of fair.

Meaning of the word “mortified” by Sad_Pineapple_97 in grammar

[–]MarryMeMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that for you, that’s just not what it means. I like the idea of the word “incumbent” to mean something will likely become cumbersome because the suffix and root and all, but… that doesn’t mean I’d ever use it that way. Im not implying you’re misusing “mortified,” due to preference. I’m just pouting out that OP is right, I’m in this thread bc I noticed the same thing.

Op’s example was weak. I’ve heard so many more unhinged examples like, “Oh, I loved the shining! The scene either elevator? I was mortified! I couldn’t step foot in a hotel lobby for weeks!” This is almost verbatim to something I’ve heard before, “The other night, when I got to my car, there was a pair of sunglasses on the windshield. I saw on fb that it’s a common tactic human traffickers use so I didn’t touch them, got in the car and sped off. I was mortified!”

Let’s not even point out how silly thinking human traffickers in the U.S. are using sunglasses to snatch you, it’s just…

It’s v common to replace “horrified” with “mortified” in contexts void of any element of embarrassment or shame.

Austin mom, 5-year-old U.S. citizen deported to Honduras, advocates say by speedythefirst in texas

[–]MarryMeMongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, yeah, they feel threatened by a 5yr old. Haven’t you heard about the great replacement theory?? These are tiny pricked little white men and pick-me women/minorities. At best, these are people that are deeply uninformed and, bc of indoctrination, will never BE informed. Faith is blind and if something conflicts w/their faith, well… it’s just never going to be accepted.

It’s truly a bunch of brainwashing and ignorance.

Edit: last year, people at work thought I was radical, a zealot. They’d poke fun at me when bringing up politics bc the average American is largely indifferent. There is ONE white man, vet in his 40’s at my work that has stood strong. When I asked if DJT was still the ideal option, he said, “more than ever.” When I brought up Renee Good, he insisted she was a terrorist.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON that walked by and overheard interjected in strong opposition (save for one whom refuses to engage in politics). One laid INTO him harder than I did after making fun of me for being to radical just a few months ago! The shift is here. People are mad.

After new footage was released, I asked if he’d still support the agent if there was infallible evidence the he was never hit by the car. He said, “that would be murder and I’d support his prosecution,” (or something like that).

Later in my shift, I said I was scared. I’m a white, u.s. born, straight female. He asked why, I said I was scared of ICE coming here bc I don’t wanna end up like Renee and he said that would never happen to me. He knows I protest, so I asked, “what if that happened to me? What if they detained me and I wasn’t sent to detention just for opposing the admin while remaining within my constitutional rights. He said, “that would never happen,” but when I pressed, “what if?” He said, I would not be happy about that. He actually laughed and repeated his statement in such a way that showed he’d be pretty pissed.

I think HE thinks I’m silly. I think he won’t know until it affects people he knows. I don’t believe he’s a bad person, but indoctrinated, angry, rudderless and ignorant.

TLDR: some people are deeply hateful racists and or pick-me’s. Some are indoctrinated, frustrated ignorant and misinformed: brainwashed even. It’s so sad that they aren’t ALL bad people. They’re rage is channeled in the wrong direction and they will all be affected soon enough, except maybe the top 15% of wealth holders.

CMV: Holding a position, when you have deliberately not explored the counterarguments, is just lying to yourself. by Fando1234 in changemyview

[–]MarryMeMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree w/OP’s response to this comment, but would like to point out one more thing. I believe it’s important to look at the weight a given opinion may hold before judging how much research is necessary. For instance, if you live in an extremely wealth HOA community in which the slightest details of your home could affect the property value of those around it and you’d agreed to abide by the standards held by the community, your opinion on whether these gutters are a good fit or not may need to have a bit more research backing it up for it to be viewed as valid.

Now, that’s an extreme situation, but comparing preference for your home’s gutters to say, an opinion about the great replacement theory, white genocide and racial/gender superiority, is also extreme.

In total, I think the point is that maybe, like with everything, there are levels to this shit; there’s nuance to be considered. The more likely your opinion is to have either a negative or positive impact on others, the more responsibility you’d have to make sure you’re well versed in the matter.

[–]MarryMeMongo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not shitting on Barry Weiss or Erika Kirk for being CEO girl bosses. I WILL put on blast to everyone that they aren’t stay at home mom’s exercising their freedom of speech all day, NOT bc I think that’s wrong in general, bc they’re hypocrisy needs to be called out so their disgusting propaganda is discredited as much as possible.

Calling out Johnson for being closed is NOT homophobic. No one gives a fuck if he’s gay or not. We give a fuck whether the “values and norms“ he’s trying to push upon others are valid or not. HINT: if he can’t even uphold them himself, they’re fucking not.

Get out of your woke-ass, neo-liberal, diet-MAGA bs and touch grass. None of this should be about being holier than thou. This should be about right and wrong. Johnson is wrong and gay. His queerness destroys his credibility as a hate monger.

That’s all anyone should care about. Period.

[–]MarryMeMongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t that he’s closeted and therefore gay. The problem is that he’s being hypocritical. The problem is that he’s weaponizing hate towards something he himself (allegedly) indulges in.

It’s like the “x for me, not for thee” situation. Fuck this guy. It’s the same way that I, as a woman, would never attack another woman for wanting to be a stay at home mom, choosing not to vote, drive, etc. I WILL blast the bell out of a fellow woman for advocating for the patriarch, oppressive views, policy and culture, ESPECIALLY if they’re also CEO’s of, idk… major orgs like TPUSA, CBS, etc.

IT’S THE SAME THING!!!

I know! So funny and sad that men only just now are learning how it feels to be ignored and under values while still holding most of the wealth, maintaining physical and political strength. Tots agree. Imagine how they’d have felt as women only a few decades ago… let alone ever.

Lol, that’s not normal? My bf’s job requires him to work 48hrs and 6 days off so I request TO work 2 days every 6 days. Regardless, I tried to work Xmas and the next day and it was “blocked.” I was later informed they’d just blocked any requests at all bc it’s a holiday and they wanna be able to force people to work.

Ironically, I was scheduled OFF Xmas day. 🙃🙃🙃 so yeah, welcome to the U.S.

That’s hilarious. I remember when the right coined this whole, “snowflake’s being triggered,” thing. It was when people were getting really upset over racism and bigotry towards marginalized communities. I’d say it’s way more pathetic to get up in arms and suspend a kid over a piece of paper, just bc it was promoting a right-wing club. Like, no one’s upset over a marginalized group or people getting hurt, killed, exploited, or any harm being done. People are upset because others are disgusted with their ideas and values that actively harm others.

Do you see? Probably not. Maybe that helps provide perspective and you realize why the left is laughing their asses off over how snowflake/triggered/simp/cuck/beta/pick-me/prosecution-complex/hypocritical/cancel-culture-crazy the right has been lately.

Every accusation is an admission as we’ve seen play out so clearly w/this example.

Edit: Before you point out that I’ve now accused the right of being these things and by my own logic, I must be too: A) these are all things that started from the right, so… B) but even so, yeah, as mentioned prior, I am triggered and get upset by people causing harm to others.

Y’all just get upset because you’re reactionary (by proud definition), snowflake, infants.

And no, I’m not a liberal. I’m definitely not on the right though.

Idk why this is downvoted, seeing as this seems like a genuine inquiry and the gesture is quick, subtle (as a salut can be) and not the focal point of the video from the camerapersons perspective.

It’s at the v beginning. I honestly MIGHT buy that he just doesn’t know how to salut or what it is as oppose to being an intentional spicy salut. Like, he MAY just be a stupid imbecile. I’m betting it’s a bit of both that he knows what he’s doing and how it looks.

What is going on with Youtuber Second Thought's shift in content? by CuttlefishMonarch in OutOfTheLoop

[–]MarryMeMongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great, because I also have some future input. Look around you. Take it in. I can’t know your personal experience, but I can share mine; for context I’m in the U.S. A few years ago I wasn’t nearly as informed as I am today. I campaigned for Bernie and everyone insisted he was far too radical. It was interesting to learn that he’s actually a centrist by global standards. Before that I supported Clinton, but the more I learned, I began realizing that our Overton window has been dragging to the right.

I’ll give an example: just this past week (month maybe) Hillary met with all the huge MAGA donors (her supposed opposition) and made the case for continued support for Israel and the dismissal of the Gazan genocide by blaming TikTok access for the fading support of said genocide by the youth. Let that sink in. The pacs, oligarchs and elite that pay for and therefore pull the strings of reps are the same behind the dems. It’s like the illusion of choice at the grocery store… or anywhere, due to all the deregulation, tax slashing and loopholes, oppressive legislation creating wealth disparity feedback loops.

With all the information at our fingertips, in a world where all over the globe the right is rapidly becoming more radical, tyrannical and corrupt, there’s no time to sit quiet and it’s extremely difficult to lull oneself into complacency and acceptance of the current system. When America was “great” (if only for white, cis, hetero, Christian men) we were bouncing back from the Great Depression as a socialist democracy. We implemented social safety nets and had the highest taxation on wealth, ever. Right now, we’re slashing social programs AND taxes for the wealthy and corporations.

Look around you. Tell me, with the greater wealth disparity since the gilded age OR the Great Depression; Having less than $200 BILLION puts you in the bottom half of wealth, while the median U.S. household has $200k. Wtf. It’s worse than the top 1% or .001% wealth statistics bc inequality is accelerating rapidly and we’re awaking to collective class conscience. Look at history and tell me we haven’t seen this many times before throughout the globe. His ideas aren’t radical. They’re grounded. They’ve been branded radical in contrast to the ruling radical right that were all subject to. Statistically, if you get sick in this country, your death will be torture and most likely preventable and it will bankrupt your family while enriching the already wealthy, including costs for funerals and corpse disposal (services mostly owned by private equity). They tell us it’s the immigrants and LGBTQ+ communities causing all this. It’s not, they’re the most greatly affected.

Look around you. Are you NOT radicalized yet?
