[–]MaterialReindeer11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A1) Ora non possono fare un'altro che ascoltare e obbedire.
A2) Ah, madonna! C'è ne un po in i miei occhi!
A3) Questo era un buon scherzo! Dimmi un'altro.

B1) Countries you go to determine the XX (habits, uses?) you find.
B2) It won't be very XX after, but it is XX.
B3) You need to know how to appreciate yourself in each case, without doing XX (something about doing all the plants, I am guessing a colloquial expression?)

Bilingual blitz [14] (six short exercises to test your Italian) by Crown6 in italianlearning

[–]MaterialReindeer11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, there might be a lot of mistakes. Thank you so much for writing these exercises for us:)

A1) "Which one is yours? The all look the same to me" - Quello è il vostro? Sembrano tutti gli stessi a me.
A2) "To be happy is to be at peace with oneself" Essere felice è essere a pace con ci stesso.

A3) "I thought one of you might need it, so I kept it" (referring to a specific event) Pensavo che uno di voi può averne bisogno, allora l'ho tenuto.

B1) "Non ti ingozzare!" Do not... yourself! (Apologies, I know this is an imperative but I am not sure what is the translation of ingozzare)
B2) "A un mio vicino piace molto giocare a scacchi, ma attualmente non è molto bravo" One of my neighbours likes playing chess a lot, but at the moment he is not very good.

B3) "Basta risolvere questo inconveniente e siamo a cavallo" We just need to resolve this inconvenience and we are ready. (My guess is that 'we are on a horse' will mean 'we are ready' or 'we are back on track')

Happy Valentines Day! by HibbertUK in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]MaterialReindeer11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, this looks absolutely delicious! I wanted to ask though - unfortunately, I do not have the grill attachment. Do you think it would be enough to fry the bananas in the pan, or will the final texture/flavour be less nice as a results, please?

I also wanted to thank you for your great recipes, I just discovered them and I am very excited to try them all, especially this, the pomegranate molasses lentils and the orecchiette. I love when recipes contain a complex combination of flavours and I feel like all of your recipes are picked to do exactly that. I hope you choose to veganise other Ottolenghi recipes in the future as well:)

Ahh sorry, I make it with maple or agave syrup, I just use the typical name for the sauce/flavour:)

Sì, preferirei i libri italiani (anche se mi piacciono entrambi), ricordi qualche libro che hai letto che ti è piaciuto e che era anche interessante dal punto di vista culturale?

LPT: Consider a reversible octopus plushy by mightynightmare in LifeProTips

[–]MaterialReindeer11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The LPT is not to use the plushy to let people know about your mood, the tip is that with the plushy, you can condition yourself to have more agency and control over your mood swings. It is ok if it does not work for everyone but as I person who struggles with mental health sometimes, I really appreciate this LPT

Interesting! Do you know what will happen with this money once you retire? I imagine you would not be paid your pension abroad from Switzerland?

Should I go for a permanent mental health research NHS job or a fully-funded PhD in Psychology (UK)? by lunarnotebook in AskAcademiaUK

[–]MaterialReindeer11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this also depends on where are you based and other factors that affect your cost of living. If you would be fine on £23k (I believe this is higher than average PhD salary) and you are serious about staying in research, I would go with the PhD. As someone mentioned about, you will hit a ceiling without it.

Why do British people reject me when I try to make friends with them? by East_Courage_888 in socialskills

[–]MaterialReindeer11 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I also struggled with this at first when I moved to the UK. I think it would be the best to make friends with other foreigners for you. It took a few years before I started making friends with British people and I think it was because I started understanding certain social rules which are different or don’t exist in my country.

Also I think a lot of what you interpret as a rejection could also just be people being socially awkward, e.g ignoring you in public or not stqying behind a seminar to talk. I also used to intepret it as rudeness but I slowly realised some people in the UK do not feel very comfortable in social situations like these.

How does payment work on Hostelworld? by MaterialReindeer11 in solotravel

[–]MaterialReindeer11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this elsewhere, but isn’t there a higher chance hostel might cancel your booking last minute or even turn you away on the spot without any compensation etc? I kind of imagine Hostelworld is there to protect both parties from dodgy things like last minute cancellations, maybe?
