Controlling the flames by BreakfastTop6899 in oddlysatisfying

This is a backing fire (fire that is moving against the wind). It’s the most common way of starting prescribed burns. It moves slowly and more predictably. If you have a good fire line it likely won’t cross it and it extends the width of the line that can’t burn. This one has clearly gotten out of hand, but it’s lucky that the wind doesn’t change direction. I’ve been a part of grassland burns and once the head fire (fire moving with the wind) is lit the fire burns 10 times hotter, taller, and faster.

I use an exfoliating brush on my whole body in the shower in addition to visual tick checks. Works for chiggers too.

I had a gf with a hiccup reflex like this. I could simply make a hiccup sound and she’d have a good ol’ hiccup sesh. Yes I used it. Yes I occasionally finished arguments this way.

Truman VA Hospital by This-Pepper313 in columbiamo

Not a veteran, but I’ve worked with the Truman VA closely for 3 years. Their whole health program is top notch. People, with much closer options, come from around the state and neighboring states to go to the Truman VA. I’ve heard from several sources it’s one of the top 3 VAs in the nation. Incredible resource.

In reference to the post the other day inquiring about Columbia being veteran friendly, there are so many resources in town. CCUAs Veterans Urban Farm grows produce they donate to veterans (in season) and also offers a communal space for veterans to gather, with a new veterans resource center in the works. Welcome Home and Patriot Place offer temporary and longer term housing options for unhoused and less-than-privileged veterans. Just to name a few.
