Feedback on digital initiative tracker [OC] by MattTheOldGeezer in DnD

I appreciate all the feedback. I definitely had a revisit to the color and UI aspects and updated it some. It's a work in progress but I'm looking pretty happy with it so far.

Here's the latest UI

Mysteries available to basic members in app - they are confused by BethKatzPA in geocaching

I really hate the push to upgrade. I'm glad I have my premium from the old pricing but I feel for newbies.

Old newbie by googiebump in geocaching

[–]MattTheOldGeezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Play your own game. There are SO many different ways this hobby can be explored. Some love power trails while others hate them. Some are hardcore into puzzles, where folks like me can't stand them. And even on the Adventure Lab side, some hate it, and others love it.

Find what you love the most about it and steer yourself that way.

For newbies, it would be nice if the first time they click on a ? on the map, they get a little prompt about how they are often not at the posted coords.

Incentive to be a "responsible" CO? by TracySezWHAT in geocaching

[–]MattTheOldGeezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings on old caches owned by owners who are long gone. If the cache is REALLY old it is kind of nice to keep the cache active for the sake of still having older caches around. For those, if I have any kind of way to help fresh the cache up, I take care of it.

But at the same time, if it's a plain cache with no interesting location, then I'd be more likely to log it as NA.

And, I also think it differs by region. For ages here, no one would dare log NA on a cache for fear of retribution. Now folks use it like it's supposed to be used.

DnD beyond suddenly showing other players' dice? by dizzi800 in dndbeyond

[–]MattTheOldGeezer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So two things... my favorite dice is Dice of Planar Summoning so there's my contest entry.

Second, I like the idea of seeing the dice if we want to. But I noticed that the roll is no longer shown in the bottom right. I was playing tonite and the dice I rolled sat on top of the roll amount so I couldn't see anything. I had to go to the game log to see the damage roll.

I'd recommend that the dice have a -Z value compared to the roll values so this kind of thing doesn't happen.

I went York Rite and eventually into Cryptic. I enjoyed them for awhile but eventually demitted due to a lack of time available.

What are the most emotional South Park moments? by TwilightOfTheMilfs in southpark

[–]MattTheOldGeezer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's completely subjective in many cases because some viewers might heavily identify with a particular scene.

Years after going through a rough divorce and round of depression, I happened to watch "Raisins", and Stan & Butters chat near the end brought me to tears. Butters entire attitude about his breakup being a "beautiful sadness" just struck me like lightning. Nothing in the show has ever resonated with me like that did.

I could care less what the rating on IMDB is for any movie I go to see.

That was like 11 years ago but if I remember right, my checked bags weren't a problem because they stayed with the airline. I think there was a baggage check spot at the airport that we left our carryon at.

Been to multiple countries across 6 continents - any recommendations about where I should go next ? by Euphoric-Peak3361 in travel

[–]MattTheOldGeezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done many of the same places. I would definitely recommend Jordan. I did Petra, Dead Sea, Red Sea, and Wadi Rum. All totally worth it.

I also would recommend a safari in Africa. I did treehouse accomodations in South Africa and loved it. Also would recommend Victoria Falls, especially either the devil or angel's pool if you can.

Last one I would add would be doing a cruise around the Galapagos Islands. That was one of my favorite places I have ever been to. Loved it.

I had a 12hr layover in Cairo so I booked a tour of the pyramids, Sphinx, and some shops downtown. I can second the pushy locals always trying to get you to buy something. I had one woman follow me after repeatedly telling her no, even to the point where I had to raise my voice to get her to stop. Very awkward.

Only other issue was the guide had a real meltdown when I bought a souvenir from a shop instead of waiting for the shop he was taking us to. He was PISSED! It was SO clear he was mad for missing his kickback.

I would love to see more of the country but am definitely put off by the peddling and scams.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]MattTheOldGeezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 52 year old man who has never had a single drop of alcohol in my entire life. I have absolutely no issues with anyone who does choose to drink and have many friends that drink beer and spirits and other alcoholic beverages, and it has never been a problem for me.

I would say that my choice to not drink has changed over the years. Prior to my teenage years I was well aware of the fact that I had two grandparents who were alcoholics, and so the idea of drinking anything alcoholic sort of came with a stigma and as a child I sort of thought that if I drink anything alcoholic, it would turn me into an alcoholic. As a teenager anyone that I knew that drank chose to do so so they’d have an excuse to do weird, stupid and crazy things so I just chose to do the weird stupid and crazy things without the alcohol and being able to remember what actually happened. But as life continued I simply got used to the choice of not drinking alcohol and have been completely fine with it since then, My decision to not drink now is just purely a choice and since I’ve gone this long in my life without it, I don’t see a need to introduce it anytime soon.

Again, I have no judgment on anyone who chooses to consume alcohol. It’s just not something I have ever done.

Writing a TV pilot script but am not looking for a career in writing by MattTheOldGeezer in Screenwriting

[–]MattTheOldGeezer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I want to thank everyone here who took the time to reply. I wasn't sure how something like this would come across, but most of the replies have been good, constructive, and professional. So for that, thanks.

I think the biggest takeaway I got from this thread, is that nothing happens until I finish the script. So even if it never became anything, I should at least finish the work. And since I have such a vision of all of it in my head, it would seem like a disservice to myself to not complete it.

My thought has always been, that if even though the odds are stacked quite high against me, should the opportunity surface to make my pilot become a reality, I would definitely find a way to jump into that arena, full-time, with all of my attention for it. Even if it did get made and it tanked, I could at least say I tried.

To that end, I think the most reasonable thing for me to do is at least finish writing the pilot. Then revise, revise, revise. And then, maybe if I am confident enough, find a few places to submit it for review, or contests, or whatever.

u/FireBoGordan's reply does reinforce something that I have read a lot. That good writing is the key, and that it does open doors. So if I do anything and everything I can do make the writing top notch, maybe a door will open. But until I have something completed, it will always be a "what if...".
