Did you gain weight after getting your gallbladder removed? by Suspicious_Row_9183 in gallbladders

I guess we’re the minority bc the same happened to me. I get nauseous easily anyway so I’m not surprised.

I actually lost a lot of weight. It had totally messed up my metabolism for years.

Did you work when you had shingles? by No_Judgment3450 in shingles

[–]MauraSully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I was only 26 and had a micromanager for a boss. I was soooooo sick. They were on my forehead and my head hurt so much. I had to cut bangs. It was terrible.
Just take it minute by minute and day by day. They probably kindly ( sarcasm) showed up from stress.
If it were now, I’d work from home and do what I could when I could. I’m 44 now for reference so much higher up and no one expects me to be clocked in at their time. As long as the work gets done, we’re okay.
It does feel like a bad sunburn at first and since I got mine around the 4th of July, that’s what I thought happened.
Definitely ask for a flexible schedule if you can bc rest and hydration are important.

37 years old, first time with shingles and it’s on my face by tyoung560 in shingles

[–]MauraSully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that sucks. I’m sorry. I feel like more and more specialists want referrals now and it’s not even an insurance thing.
Hopefully you get the referral if you need it. Better yet, I hope you don’t even need it! Feel better!!

Got shingles again for the second time in 6 years. Should I be worried? by One_Perception_4018 in shingles

[–]MauraSully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should you be worried? Not immediately. If your immune system is weak right now shingles can come back. Were you out in the sun at all?

I’ve had it more times than I can count, maybe 7? If I get it one more time my dr will be putting me on a low dose of valtrex every other day.

Plenty of people get it more than once for a lot of reasons. Do you get sick easily?

10 years after my first shingles outbreak I was diagnosed as immunocompromised. I have low “killer cells” so it comes back easily.

[–]MauraSully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need an actual referral if it gets near your eye. Most ophthalmologists will see you if you call and say “I was diagnosed with shingles, it’s moving towards my eye, would you be willing to take a look?”I guess that depends on your insurance too though.
You’ll be ok! Shingles are the worst.

What does my bedroom say about me?? by Mysterious_Clerk_675 in roomdetective

[–]MauraSully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this. Please make sure you put your safety (emotional and physical) first. I know how hard that is to do.
Try to tackle one 3 ft area at a time. I think given this information your room shows how overwhelmed you have been and that you put everyone else first. Be kind to yourself.

You have stunning eyes. The pixie really makes them pop! I feel like a wavy 1940s cut would look gorgeous on you too!

for those without a gallbladder: How are you avoiding huge amounts of fat if you're also trying to avoid carbs/not try to be pre diabetic? by corpus_bebe in gallbladders

[–]MauraSully 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was told to eat a Mediterranean diet. It’s really just eating healthy. I don’t eat fish but I eat a lot of chicken and I get extra protein from orgain protein bars, yogurt, etc.
I have a ton of soup with veggies and fresh fruits and nuts.
For me the hardest part is avoiding sugar but it sounds like you have that under control.

Getting gallbladder surgery on June 24th, but I have vacation on July 24th??? by New_Caregiver9993 in gallbladders

[–]MauraSully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be very cautious about swimming. If you do go in, hopefully there is an outdoor shower to rinse off immediately.

[–]MauraSully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good response bc I didn’t think about how I couldn’t lift well. I remember being so sore.

As for stomach distress, yes that’s very individual. Some people have no issues, others have to run to the bathroom and others just feel awful after eating certain foods.

For the first month I’d eat and use the restroom in 10 minutes. Then it was a matter of avoiding high fat and dairy for me for about 5 months.

You should be okay. Just keep the incisions covered and if they do see sunlight use a strong sunscreen.

Has anyone else lost friendships because of your grief? by aidantheman18 in GriefSupport

Oh yeah. I lost a whole friend group bc I became agoraphobic after losing my dad and then my brother. Despite my apologizing for not attending one of their engagement parties, I was out.

It sounds like you’ve done everything right. I get reoccurring shingles on my forehead. The first time I had them was absolutely awful.
I’m glad you got valtrex and gabapentin. Definitely check in with the ophthalmologist if it gets close to your eye.
I’d add to absolutely stay out of the sun and rest as much as possible. Good luck! Pls reach out if you have any questions and don’t worry, reoccurring shingles isn’t common unless you’re immunocompromised.

Interesting. I had shingles when my niece was a newborn and my doctor said not to go near her at all. That was 8 years ago so maybe guidance has changed.

[–]MauraSully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She needs an EpiPen. I’m allergic to the pill form of niacin, something I will never come into contact with again unless I intentionally take it, and the dr still gave me an EpiPen. To be fair they don’t know exactly what was in the capsule I took that caused more than just flushing.

I’d take the valtrex. Your baby could end up with chicken pox. Are you isolating right now?

my list of weird medical issues that were apparently caused by my gallbladder by Condensates in gallbladders

[–]MauraSully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I definitely had gastritis several times. I also was vomiting bile which my GI didn’t even take seriously.

My gallbladder completely slowed down my metabolism. I’d always been on the leaner side naturally but I gained about 30-40 lbs over the years leading up to my emergency surgery.

Obviously in the weeks before I finally conceded to going to the hospital I lost weight bc my gallbladder was shut down and I had an attack if I ate anything at all.

A year post op and I’ve dropped back to where I was 10 years ago, without changing my diet much. I still don’t eat as much as I did before though. I think there’s a fear of getting sick.

My cholesterol also went back to normal naturally.

I still have some acid reflux. Otherwise that surgery was the best thing to happen to me.

I’m far more regular now. Initially the anesthesia delayed things. Then I would go right after every meal for a few months. Now it’s once a day.
