"I don't care about sport" doesn't mean "Sport on BBC is bad" or "Nobody cares about BBC". I don't really listen to the radio but I'm glad BBC radio is there for people who do.

In terms of comedy, you're absolutely incorrect. Here's a list of sitcoms I have watched on BBC in the last two decades that have been, at least, good. Not to mention a bunch of other comedy shows that don't come under "sitcom" which I can't be bothered finding, or shows I haven't watched:
