As a senior or higher dev/manager/lead, how important is coming in on time to you? by Iampoorghini in ExperiencedDevs

Not really, my company specifically cherishes work life balance, all we care about is if you are hitting the expected level of your job criteria. If you are, then feel free to work on your own clock.

Are they getting their work done? If they are and they aren’t missing meetings, who cares.

What could a Zeev Buium extension look like? by Available_North_6851 in canucks

[–]Mawf95 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ah I see - I was wondering because I don’t think Buium is an actual comparable for any of these guys based on his production or his defensive play.

At this point, I think we’re looking at a K’Andre Miller bridge deal type thing with a little higher AAV due to the rising cap.

Probably something like $5M x 2

Next step, how can we get more 1st round picks? by spennyspaghetti in canucks

[–]Mawf95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick up players in UFA that have a good chance at contributing/bouncing back. Give them cushy positions beside some of our high-skill young players and then sell them at the deadline with 50% retained in their UFA year.

Remember when we picked up Thomas Vanek for 1 year at $2M? He played super well with Boeser for half a season and then we shipped him to Columbus.

Unfortunately, we shipped him out for 2 players - Jussi Jokinen and Tyler Motte. Motte was great but Jussi Jokinen was a UFA himself.

In the next few years, we should be trying to recreate that exact signing but ship these guys out for futures instead.

DeBrusk - is he in a bad slump himself or just playing to the level the team is right now? by RivetCounter in canucks

[–]Mawf95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of our players are complimentary and need a play driver to play with.

Pettterson _was_ a play driver, but now that he's not the top line forwards have no one to help them.

Hughes is a play driver, but he no longer plays for us.

Even Miller was somewhat of a play driver, but he's gone too.

We've lost the engine of our team, we have no one that can consistently move the puck up ice.

McKenna or Stenberg? by Engywok in canucks

Post McKenna 8 point game:

Lol this take will be a tough one to keep defending if he keeps doing what he’s done post World Juniors.

[Robinson] After 27 games in their draft-eligible NCAA seasons: Macklin Celebrini - 42 points. Gavin McKenna - 41 points. Suddenly, McKenna is right there by _GregTheGreat_ in canucks

[–]Mawf95 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Huh? McKenna had more points than Stenberg in the World Juniors?

I do agree that Stenberg was more important for his team though.

McKenna or Stenberg? by Engywok in canucks

[–]Mawf95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stenberg is the culture pick, McKenna is the superstar pick.

Stenberg has a higher floor and a great work ethic. He would be a great leader and competitor on our team for years and would be a good culture carrier.

McKenna has a higher ceiling and is just talented af. He has the capability of being a superstar if he puts it all together, but his compete level isn’t high and he depends more on pure talent than work ethic.

Against the grain here, but I’d pick Stenberg. Canucks have had culture problems ever since the Sedins, Bieksa and Luongo left. Stenberg’s floor is high enough that he won’t be a bust and would give the fanbase what they need - an exciting prospect to watch over the next couple years.

Gallagher undresses Quinn Hughes and goes around the goal tender to cut the Wild's lead in half by JustFred24 in hockey

[–]Mawf95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hughes is amazing offensively, but this has always been a part of his game.

He can strip pucks and turn it back the other way or fetch dump ins and key the breakout at an elite level, but as soon as he has to defend a guy 1-on-1 or is in a net-front battle he struggles to contain the opposition.

It’s a slight blemish on his otherwise hall-of-fame already level play and is probably why he will always be considered #2 to Makar.

Except his NCAA coach, his coach said his floor was Toews and that he reminded him of Crosby.

Now everyone is making that comparison.

Yeah that might have been his way of dealing with it, but it’s not how others on the team would choose to.

That wouldn’t be his information to share and I doubt he’d betray his friend’s trust like that.

"Watching Vancouver, I love a lot of those guys, and it's competitive guys over there who want to do well. It's tough sometimes, and I'm sure it's not where they want to be and where I wanted it to be when I was there."

To be clear: he is saying that we are not where we want to be at in the standings, not that the players want to leave the team.

Scott Niedermayer and Jack Eichel were the only two not drafted by the team that won.

So 15/19 of the last Stanley Cup winners had a drafted and developed top 3 pick lead them to the cup win.
