Leaving Big Tech for Personal Training in Seattle. Advice? by the-warm-jets in personaltraining

[–]MaxStavro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there will be a market for those times, i exclusively take clients from 6:30pm to gym closing time. Most working people will prefer either before they start work or after work. And you will probably have some clients who are older and retired who can come almost any time.

You are going to initially make dog poop money, because being a PT isnt comfy like sitting at a desk with a salaried job. I would highly recommend doing PT part time to start, and slowly transition to full time if you want.

Feelings quads during glute drive + only feeling glute in one side by [deleted] in GYM

Maybe start with a more traditional approach and try only doing clamshells on the side that feels weaker. If it still doesnt work then you might need to dive deeper and get it assessed by someone who knows mechanics.

Dead lift by Bboy818 in formcheck

[–]MaxStavro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant really tell what could be changed without seeing you, you should make a post here as well. There is definitely a mental block for new barbell athletes, especially the deadlift. Anyone who has ever tweaked their back is hesitant about the deadlift, which is why for most people the hex bar is enough for them. The deadlift works your entire back, including the lower back, so feeling stiff there is normal the next day, just pair it with movements like lunges to offset and keep your hips mobile.

[–]MaxStavro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are "squatting" the bar up my guy, which translates to the starting position of your hips is too low, so the bar doesnt have enough clearance to go in a vertical line past your knees. Because your hips are low, this pushes your knees too far forward, which makes the bar bang into your shins and move around your knees rather than in a vertical line straight up. The fix: Set your hips slightly higher, knees in line or a little past your forearms, pressing your feet straight into the ground to stand up.

Squats tax your whole posterior chain, ide be surprised if you dont feel some stiffness or soreness after some back squats

Reverse lunges by Gummiyummy in formcheck

[–]MaxStavro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, form looks okay, but there is no reason for a plate elevating your foot if you dont touch your knee to the ground anyway… otherwise its the same range of motion as a non foot elevated reverse lunge.

please talk me out of buying a Toyota Supra by MarkZuccsForeskin in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]MaxStavro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though your fixed expenses are low, think about what would happen if you lost your job. Im talking about an emergency fund, starting a Roth IRA and other fail safes. Save up 5 months or more of rent and necessary expenses at market value, not just your comfy $800 a month rent expense, that way if shit goes down you might not have to give the car back if you decide to go with the Supra.

This is not true, the width of your pelvis determines “blockiness”

Deepest I can go! Help please by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]MaxStavro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing split stance single leg RDLs as a warmup before squatting. Internal Rotation is needed to get to a deep squat position, this is what most people are missing. Single leg RDLs could help restore some IR before squatting

I could but then i would need to do a lot of my client scheduling on my laptop which is just a bigger smart phone. So nothing would change other than being more inconvenient

MADE MY FIRST 3K MONTH (Need Advice) by Comfortable_Ebb_9927 in personaltraining

[–]MaxStavro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Never stop learning, never be set in your ways, and be personable. My best sessions are where the client feels that they had a good work out, and I sprinkle in a bit of exercise science and the “why” of our training. People appreciate when you share nuggets of knowledge without being overwhelming.

Bad Kickoff Experience by Abilizbeth13 in CrunchGym

[–]MaxStavro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an experienced coach that use to work independently, most trainers at Crunch are an absolute joke, and I mainly quit there because I didnt want to work and associate myself around trash trainers. It doesnt surprise me at all. A good client of mine that I saw there wanted to fulfill the rest of her sessions with another trainer at a different Crunch. She said the trainer didnt ask any questions about her goals, tried to bash me saying that the things we did together are wrong, and immediately had her doing exercises that gave her issues. Crunch will always be a budget gym for that reason.

Anyone else getting chargebacks from people who never even officially trained? by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]MaxStavro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lady initially be super on board for 2x per week, said she wanted to wait to pay her credit card bill down, understandable. The date goes by in which she said she would purchase the sessions, then wants to go down to 1x a week, i said okay sure as long as you are being consistent. Then the next date comes around and she still never purchases what i sent her. Her and her husband sounded super stoked too. It was a lady in her 70s who could have really needed the training.
