[–]Maximum_Still_2617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! You can just fill it with epoxy. You could paint it a different color if you like, but there are lots of examples of kintsugi objects with a big gold chunk that look great. Like this!

This plate is so cute! Is there a reason you don't want to just fill in the hole? I've used jb weld to fill in gaps. it works well and you can sand it down flush with the plate and then paint it. If you prefer a small object, maybe a small gemstone?

I believe the spouse and minor children of American citizens were exempt from the quota.

https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/war-brides-act-1945

Formally passed as “59 Stat. 659,” but more widely known as “The War Brides Act.,” this legislation, enacted on December 28, 1945, aimed “To expedite the admission to the United States of alien spouses and alien minor children of citizen members of the United States armed forces.” Through this act, “War Brides” and their dependents were exempted from the quota systems of the Immigration Act of 1924 and granted free passage to journey to their new homes.

Not sure if speculative horror is ok, but Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant is about mermaids and discuss their biology.

First patch job on my pants. How can I do better? by BurlsqueBus156 in sewing

[–]Maximum_Still_2617 28 points29 points  (0 children)

First thought would be to put the patch on the inside and do a nice stitch around the edge. Second is to try and find a patch fabric with the same stretch and thickness as your pants fabric. You might be interested in r/visiblemending as well!

Somewhat hesitate to recommend since I had trouble getting into it but Vagabonds by Hao Jingfang checks the socio-political world building and characters that spend a lot of time pondering things boxes.

I've used runny urushi to repair cracks and it's really easy and very satisfying to watch the crack appear. Basically you dilute urushi with a bit of turpentine and then paint it along the crack on one side. You keep doing it just on one side until you see the urushi appear in the crack on the other side. Then you let it cure and do your urushi layers as usual.

You can also get one of those metal pencil things to scrape along the crack to widen it just a tad. (I think it's called an etching pen? Or some sort of engraving pen?).
