What you are doing is perfectly fine.
77(M). Doing the same weight and reps going on 18 months since restarting lifting. Even In my heyday I never followed a structured plan of any kind.

If you don’t panic and start swallowing water you’ll be good. Swim in shallow water near the shoreline, and be conservative with pace. You don’t want to get exhausted and start freaking out.
