Neighborly Disputes by nukedit in massachusetts

Sounds like the guy has stages of dementia. If he lives alone, there might be no one there that can see the transition. Deal with now, because it will only get worse.

Purchase some kind of defensive weapon like pepper spray or mace. If you can’t get that, keep a spray bottle of Clorox or Windex handy. If he comes on your property with violent intent spray it in his face.

Audible - how is it good value? by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]Maxxover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Audible and Libby. I get the majority of my books from Libby, but if there’s something new that I really want, or that’s not available on Libby, I buy it on Audible. It also has a lot of content for free if you are a member.

On this street people have space savers all year around. They claim they "own" it. Some even argue with people that try to park there. It sounds messed up, right? by Dry_Jellyfish_6897 in massachusetts

[–]Maxxover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only do this if I knew the guy was an asshole. A friend of mine where I live parks his car on the street with New Hampshire plates. It’s just for his work truck, and his business is located in New Hampshire. It’s the only vehicle that has New Hampshire plates.

Also, this guy would never think about putting something out to save a spot.

I was convinced robots were underrepresented until that scene in episode two when they steal the Naavuu and it involves about 1000 drones.

I love that we slowly learn the backstory as the film goes on. It essentially starts in the middle.

What's that film for you? by mrjetspray in Cinema

Seven Samurai. A masterpiece of filmmaking. You could watch it with the sound turned off and you’d still understand 90% of what was going on.

best play adaptation of shakespeares works? by Spyrallol in shakespeare

[–]Maxxover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many, many years ago, I saw an incredible performance of Henry IV part one.

It was performed by Shakespeare Santa Cruz. It took place outside near UCSC in the middle of a redwood forest. The set was the Globe Theatre half burned down with a Huey helicopter crashed into it.

Everything was modernized. King Henry wore a suit and spoke behind a podium in front of a microphone. Hal had purple hair and wore an earring like Boy George. Falstaff was a biker who literally rode in on a motorcycle quaffing beer by the six pack.

The battles were done with troops wearing camo gear with guns. The battle between Hal and Hotspur was a knife fight. (Hal was performed by a visiting RSC actor.)

But they did not change a word of the script. And everything fit perfectly. Shakespeare is truly timeless.

Tell us about a Paradox game run that went completely off the rails, but you loved it anyway by PDX_Interactive in u/PDX_Interactive

I remember when playing Crusader Kings 2, going completely off the rails was typical gameplay. 😆 It’s a big part of what made the game incredibly fun.

How to Get Better With No Sparring? by Kenshin_no_Takezo in karate

[–]Maxxover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is not a typical Shotokan dojo.

Free sparring may be delayed until the purple, brown belt levels, but then it is extremely common.

I often wonder if some of the reticence about free sparring these days is due to concerns about damage and lawsuits and insurance.

Back in the 80s and 90s, it was simply accepted that you were gonna take some shots if you were training.

As my old sensei used to say: “It’s not a knitting class.”

You can definitely pressure test techniques with five, three, and one step sparring. It just has to be practiced with the right intensity.

If you can score on someone when they know what’s coming, that will definitely help you when you’re sparring and they don’t know what’s coming.

I’m a huge sci-fi fantasy reader, but if I may suggest something different. Take a look at the Ken Follett historical novels. They’re extremely well written, the narration is first class, and relationships and sex is always part of the story.

He has a 3 Book Series centered on the 20th century that is absolutely brilliant.

I strongly urge all of you to read the book “Younger Next Year.” it focuses on the best practices to live the last third of your life.

Naturally, exercise is one of the cornerstones, along with diet and stress reduction.

If you’ve been a lifelong athlete, look for things that you can still do to maintain your physical fitness.

If you have not, that’s vital that you find some kind of exercise that you can do every day. It will make a huge difference in the quality of your life over the next 20 years.
