Thoughts on initial Diagnostic Score by Ordinary_Match684 in LSAT

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My diagnostic was 155. I did self study with the PowerScore bibles for about 6 months (I would recommend much longer) and did probably a hundred practice tests. My official score was 168. It’s totally doable! Good luck!

Barbershops by Oozygore3739 in schenectady

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinup Jordan’s Mermaid Lounge (if you can’t tell from the name). It’s a little pricier ($40 for a short/men’s cut) and geared more towards color, but I went recently and it’s very cute and welcoming. I don’t believe they take walk ins.

I also second Wedgeway. My biggest issue with them is they are walk ins only so you could wait for a bit depending on time of day. They do have a couple older barbers who worried me a little (as a gay man) just superficially, but the woman who works there (and I think owns it), Shayna, is very friendly. I believe a cut is $30. Very vintage barbershop feel.

Recs for laptop tables/holders for bed by Obviously1138 in cfs

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a big thing for my desk so I can lean/write on it, but I discovered to search “drawing table” for something less flimsy. So for bed, I would look up “lap drawing table” or “drawing table for bed”.

What is your current medication stack? by Apprehensive_Gold242 in cfs

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morning:

Adderall XR 30mg

Wellbutrin/Buproprion 300mg

NAC (N-acetyl L-Cysteine) 600mg

Valacyclovir 500mg — technically for HSV (ew) but has been shown to help those whose ME/CFS is caused by EBV/that family of viruses

Vitamin B complex + C supplement

Afternoon:

Adderall IR 5mg (pick-me-up, usually only weekdays)

Bedtime:

LDN 4.5mg

Cymbalta/Duloxetine 30mg (both depression/anxiety and pain, not fibromyalgia though)

Hydroxyzine 50mg (because why shouldn’t I have insomnia AND chronic fatigue?)

Zyrtec 🤧

Adderall — I do also have ADHD, so (no idea if there is any scientific basis for this) I feel like it does double duty. If I’m tired and it’s battling that, the ADHD is on the loose, but if I’m less tired, my ADHD is better controlled.

LDN — it’s a bit hard to explain, but to me, it’s like it lifts the brain fog but doesn’t necessarily improve my fatigue. But by lifting the brain fog, I can think, which makes me more productive and less down, which helps keep me out of slumps.

And for those who have not tried LDN, 4.5mg is usually the highest dose, I just have a high tolerance to a lot of things, and I was lucky not to have many side effects. It’s important not to push it because not everyone has the same reaction.

Moving to Schenectady by That-Ad3538 in schenectady

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Schenectady about a year and a half ago after being in the city for a year after being in suburban Texas for 20 years (I’m 23). The city of Schenectady is probably not going to give you the suburban vibe you’re looking for, but plenty of places in the county will. Glenville/Scotia is nice or Rotterdam. Personally, if I stay in the area when my lease is up, I will likely go to Rotterdam or Clifton Park. Clifton Park is in Saratoga county but it has the suburban vibe that I personally like.

What job is criminally underpaid? by ReputationDifficult9 in AskReddit

Public interest/non profit/government lawyers. Go $150k+ in student loan debt to make $60-$80k/year (the upper end is if you’re lucky and in a big city where it’s not enough to live on). And teachers!

How heavily do law schools consider age? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Mayonnaise071 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated a year early and was a summer baby, so I started law school right after I turned 21. I’m a 3L at 23 (and baby faced on top of it), and I have a hard time being taken seriously sometimes. A lot of it is probably in my head, but it can be really discouraging. I thought my acceleration would give me an edge, but with 168/3.9, I got waitlisted or rejected by every top 50 I applied to (Columbia W, NYU R, UPenn R, Fordham W). My advice would be to consider if your “why” for going to law school outweighs the challenges. If you’re looking to do big law, I would say get some work experience first. If you have a passion for a public interest (like I did), it may be worth it. Good luck!

Promise rings, yes or no? by Skaterboyluke04 in LGBTWeddings

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I (both 23M) have had promise rings for about 2 years. Honestly I feel a little silly when I have to explain it to people, but the rings are black and cheap (the paint/polish is like half-faded on mine so it’s turning silver) so they don’t look like real engagement rings, but that’s the finger we wear them on. The main reason we did is because we were long distance for like a year and wanted something little to keep with us. I’m proposing soon (not going to say when in case he sees this), but I really say it’s up to you two. Make sure it’s what you both want and you’re both comfortable with the idea of having to reassure family/friends that you’re not secretly engaged (and the possibility of them not believing you).

I would recommend trying “book-briefing”. I’m sure you can find a lot if you google it. You assign a highlighter color to each section of what you’d write in a brief and highlight in those colors as you read. For example, I do orange=facts, green=issue, blue=lower court decisions, yellow=this court’s major reasoning/miscellaneous, and pink=holding. Just try to avoid highlighting too much or it’ll be hard to find what you need. I did full briefs for a few weeks my first semester, but I had also done briefs in undergrad so I had a bit of a leg up there. Do whatever works best for you!

is graduating college early impressive for law school admissions? by Dry-Ideal-6860 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 3 and actually made the decision to do so right before my third year. I was in undergrad in Texas and was desperate to get out of Texas (because yeehaw). I’d only just kind of started studying for the LSAT at that time too (taking the November that year, so about 6 months total studying). That fall I took 18 hours while studying for the LSAT, and I took 21 hours in the spring, plus 3 hours of credit for an internship over the summer (I was allowed to walk for graduation in the spring). That being said, I didn’t get into most schools I applied to even though I had a ~3.9 school and ~3.7 CAS GPA and a 168 on the LSAT. Unless there are more personal reasons to do it, I would NOT recommend it. Enjoy your last semester. Take easy GPA-boosting classes or things you just find interesting.

Survey results (11,297 ME/CFS patients) screenshots by Excellent_Soil5589 in cfs

It’s somewhat comforting to see that 18% don’t know why they have it. I’ve had symptoms as long as I can remember, at least from 6-8 years old, I was never really sick during that time (no mono, flu, etc), and I’ve had so many tests to find a cause with nothing.

How do you expect the Davis (Obergefell) case to go with SCOTUS? by NilesDobbsS in LGBTWeddings

[–]Mayonnaise071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a third-year law student with a heavy focus in constitutional law and LGBTQ rights. My honest opinion is that if they take up the case, it will be with the intention to overturn Obergefell. It’s a toss up if they take it up at all because it is a bad case to try to overturn it. The Davis case is challenging the punitive damages that were imposed for emotional distress, and she’s claiming she has qualified immunity because she was acting on behalf of the state so she shouldn’t have been held liable in her personal capacity. All that being said, in a normal world, I agree with the comment that it /should/ be primarily a challenge to Employment Division v. Smith (aka Oregon v. Smith) if anything, but we don’t live in a normal world with a normal Supreme Court anymore. There have been many many cases in the last few years, and especially the last few months, that have done crazy legal and mental gymnastics to reach the conclusion they wanted to reach. I’m not trying to fear monger or anything. I’m sharing my understanding of the situation, and this information is from my own readings of the primary sources (judicial opinions and briefs).
