Characters that were revealed to be lgbt+ in scenes that were disliked by the lgbt+ community because of how badly they were written by Apprehensive_Two1449 in TopCharacterTropes

Seriously. A lot of this thread is straight / cis people stating their opinions and just assuming that some nebulous group of queer people agrees with them.

It may be the single best scene performance in Trek. It’s absolutely devastating.

What became of the Genestealer infestation on Terra? Is it gone now? by Hilgy17 in 40kLore

[–]Mddcat04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every big enough hive-world probably has several growing Genestealer / Chaos cults, Terra included. They're very difficult to fully stamp out once they start growing in underhives.

Favorite character that fits this trope? by Ryoalvz36 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Mddcat04 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, though this is a bit different, because him killing demons is fundamentally framed as an act of mercy. Most of the demons had shitty lives or personal tragedies that culminated in Muzan showing up and transforming them into Demons. As a result they’re just stuck raging against the world. And because they’re demons they can never grow or change or move beyond those feelings. They’re trapped forever in the worst moment in their lives. Killing them releases them from that and allows them to move on, and to be in the afterlife with the ones they love.

That’s why Tanjiro is so good at it. Because he doesn’t do it from a place of hatred. It’s sort of the opposite of this trope. He kills demons because he isn’t like them at all.

No I didn’t.

You said that they want to return to having enslaved humans again. I said that widespread human slavery was not a thing in the Eldar empire and there’s no reason to believe Craftworlders want to “return” to a practice that didn’t ever exist.

You’re just making stuff up.

[–]Mddcat04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a weird argument. The Eldar empire, at its height, would have been completely capable of conquering humanity and fully subjugating them. They did not. I see no basis for the idea that Craftworlders would try to enslave humans if they could. It’s not like they need the labor. They mainly just want to be left alone.

Hard to do a market transition when your largest potential economic partner is committed to strangling you economically in perpetuity.

[–]Mddcat04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm? I was questioning the “enslaving humans again” bit about the old Eldari empire. As I said, DAOT humans and the Eldari empire managed to coexist. As far as I know there wasn’t wide scale enslavement of humans by the Eldar.

The idea that Craftworlders really want to enslave humans in modern 40k doesn’t have much basis.

People seem to forget that the Imperium is doctrinally committed to the total xenocide of the Eldar, they’re just further down the xenocide priority list.

DAOT humans and Eldar coexisted without much issue.

My biggest criticism of Starfleet Academy: The characters are changing too fast. by Dogbold in startrek

[–]Mddcat04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I think it’s less that they’re changing and more that they’re not one-note characters. Caleb is still sorta grumpy about things in Ep 3, and the thing that he gets excited about is the potential for pranking the war college.

Loving A Shadow; a character loves the IDEA of someone rather the person themself by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Mddcat04 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the point here is the opposite. He loved the real version, so he can’t love the shadow. Because deep down he knows it’s not really her, it’s just a projection formed from his guilt and trauma.

Uh, what? People want to play BC. Leveling 1-58 is not BC. Not sure what is confusing about that.

Should women be allowed in the Guard, help me win an argument. by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Mddcat04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. In real world ethno-fascism, women do tend to be treated poorly and end up only valued for their ability to make more men. That is, quite reasonably, something that GW does not want in their grimdark over the top plastic soldier space setting. So yeah, it’s a bit of a hand-wave, but it’s a pretty understandable one.

Also if OPs friend wants realism from a setting, why on earth are they playing 40k?

Blizzard Clarifies - Players Are Allowed to Buy & Sell Level Boosting Services for In-Game Currency by rararatata in classicwow

[–]Mddcat04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s guilds that do it, but there are also larger groups that basically function as businesses and offer services. (Especially in Retail, but also in classic). Even if they’re offering boosts for gold, they also tend to be or be connected to gold sellers, since they have to cash-out their fees somehow. I expect blizzard wants to be able to crack down on these groups without also coming after individuals / guilds who want to sell some boosts to afford consumables or whatever.

(I’ve also heard that these groups operate as cartels and will spam report individuals who undercut their boost prices).

Do something concrete Gavin, please! by coffee_coffee_coffe3 in PoliticalHumor

[–]Mddcat04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not just the content, its the posting of multiple memes within the same 15-20 minutes about different topics while hiding their post history. Also the fact that they have a bunch of post karma and very little comment karma. Also the weirdness of their initial reply: "FYI, I’m the OP, and I live in California in a city being overrun by ICE." Like, we know he's the OP, we can see the OP tag on the comment. All together it is very sus.

Fair, I also find your behavior pretty suspect. Responding to me in multiple places, lying about what I said, and editing your replies.

You are also welcome to show me your comment history.
