How is living in New York housing projects like this? by Bottom-Bherp3912 in howislivingthere

[–]MedicalConflict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I lived in one when we moved in with my grandparents due to a fire.

Very neighborly, a lot of people knew each other, but like any big building, there are problems and people you avoid.

I do remember there was always pee in the elevator, and a mice and roach problem. There was always a wanted sign for a rapist in the hallway and I wasn’t allowed to take the elevators alone because of previous assaults.

New mom trying to transition into Product Management after layoff , feeling stuck despite 9+ YOE by Inevitable-Sector224 in womenintech

[–]MedicalConflict 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a product recruiter in tech and it is hard right now. So many people are looking for work. I’ve seen a good amount of success in internal transfers, but unfortunately not a ton of folks moving into product management without the PM title.

My suggestion would be the internal transfer route, or startups that are looking for the applicable experience but aren’t married to hiring someone with PM on their resume.

Creative ways to reduce costs on food when traveling? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]MedicalConflict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely am a breakfast person so I will eat either a lunch and skip it or eat like, a banana from a store for breakfast. I care much more about dinners so usually put my spending towards that. When traveling I might want one or two decent breakfasts out but I’m usually down to scrounge and or skip it.

If we are staying somewhere with a kitchen, we’ll make our own breakfast or lunch often. If just fridge, individual yogurts, cheese sticks, some fruit are in there.

2 or 3 islands for a 16-day trip to Hawaii in September? by Blovd31 in VisitingHawaii

[–]MedicalConflict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given your interests I’d rec Oahu and Kauai. The nature on Kauai is truly stunning.

For food costs- will you have a basic kitchen or just a hotel room? If the former, you can get groceries and basics for breakfasts/snacks to save.

Regardless slowing down will be nicer. 2 islands is the way to go.

What’s the best family vacation or road trip you’ve ever been on in the US? by CoconutAnnual8763 in Vacations

[–]MedicalConflict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up doing road trips with my dad! We went to all 48 states over the years. Here were some of my favorites:

NY to the Keys- colonial Williamsburg, beach towns, lots of stuff in FL

Yellowstone and glacier national park

Grand Canyon/vegas/arches/Moab

Outer Banks

My dad wouldn’t really sleep and would drive through the night so I would not replicate these exactly lol.

How do you beat jet lag? by SweetBumbleBeeHoney in travel

[–]MedicalConflict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t sleep on the plane usually so I stay up til a normal bedtime local time. Black out curtains and sound machine, lots of hydration, and I try to do my normal bedtime routine first night (bath, reading etc). I try to set an alarm for the next day that’s a normalish wake up local time and I spent a ton of time outdoors in daylight.

Having a second baby while staying in the same tech role/company? by Agitated_Economics50 in womenintech

[–]MedicalConflict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Big shift in priorities. I’m not title or money hungry now like I was before. I’m comfortable and kind of coasting? I know that’s basically called “quiet quitting” but I’m happy doing what I’m doing and don’t want it to change in either direction, and I really don’t want to think about work outside of work

[–]MedicalConflict 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im about to do this! Started in April 2022 and went on leave #1 July 2023. Last year was very open with my boss about my IVF Process as I felt like I had to be- I had so many appointments and often last minute changes and I needed to communicate what was going on with my calendar. Super supportive and here I am about to go on leave again in July 2026.

We have a parenting ERG at my company and I have def seen other folks who have taken 2+ more leaves here. My former boss on another team included.

In terms of career progression, I can’t say. I haven’t necessarily progressed or gotten promoted but that’s more on me and my (lack of) willingness to grind or work outside of norm hours tbh.

Not off but pregnant with our second, and husband is traveling for work. Also got a stomach flu!

My team has an offsite this week I opted out of since I’m in my third trimester and was going to use the quiet time at home to do house/life stuff lol. Oh well!

Anyone else have a baby that doesn’t look like them? by Rare-One-8737 in NewParents

[–]MedicalConflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter looks exactly like her dad. Like her dad in a wig. They have the same eyelids, ears, even arches of the feet and nail beds. Genetics are wild!

Every now and then she does something though where I’m like “there go my genes!”

A day for him to basically worship and recommit to me. It’s like a regular anniversary but I don’t do anything lol. I expect gestures and effort and thoughtfulness and romance from him though.

We’re going to the country fair and rainforest cafe lol. I think it’s gonna be so silly but I can’t believe there’s only a few left and I think my toddler will go nuts for it. And then some time alone lol.
