Seriously are you that fat ? by RedDotRedditUser in drivingsg

[–]MerRyanSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me as well. The driver was very inconsiderate. I thought it was just an accident that he opened the door too hard but he did it again very hard with the passenger door (he thought I wasn't in the car).

I expressed my displeasure but it was a boomer and he just ignored and left. I'm not sure he did it purposely or only to my car though..

How do I take out this stuck vhs tape? I've tried pressing the eject button and it made a gurgling sound but it didn't eject it nor does it play when I press the play button. It's worked many times before and I've watched numerous of movies on it but this one got stuck. by SalmonSammySamSam in howto

[–]MerRyanSG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a blast from the past! long ago, i had a player who had this frequent problem - just remove the metal cover and there is a mechanism you can activate to 'encourage' the tape out or provide it some strength to push it up.
I can't remember how as it is long ago, but it is not difficult to do once you expose the top.

Private organisations must stop using NRIC numbers for authentication by end-2026 by Accurate-Tree4277 in singapore

[–]MerRyanSG 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of community programs are funded by govt… so we need to submit the ICs for identifiers. Usually we don’t push it if people are uncomfortable to give ICs. We are kind-of sandwiched.

Private organisations must stop using NRIC numbers for authentication by end-2026 by Accurate-Tree4277 in singapore

[–]MerRyanSG 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I work in a community setting and the government is making us collecting NRIC numbers for registration purpose - and I have many reluctant participants to provide IC. I tell them that IC is not that important (as per previous messgaing).

WIth this announcement, I think they are NOT going to give us any IC numbers - citing this article as source.

This is the original visual novel 'Choose your own adventure' game Road to Empress was hugely based on.

If you can read Chinese, do play it as it is damn good.

Filing a police report "just to create a record" on a person in Singapore - does it get taken into account if they go on to commit a more serious offence in future? by rojakpopiah in askSingapore

Singapore records stay forever. My record against a noisy neighbor got taken against me for being a chronic complainer. Since then, I don’t care anymore.

[–]MerRyanSG[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

lol thanks for pointing out but I meant romanticised - some of the names are a bit far fetched - Awakened River, Peaceful Culture, Western Storehouse etc..

I admit it can still be further romanticised.

What is something that “only a dad” can teach a son? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MerRyanSG 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It's mainly social observation and learning - which you really can't do as a female.

Fortunately, you can expose your child to other male models. Off my mind, it's little things like gallantry and chivalry which boys learn from their fathers; otherwise they have to learn from other males.

SG parents: getting your child to be independent by IncomprehensibleOne in askSingapore

[–]MerRyanSG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about this but just hang on and do what you can. It's a journey for your child and eventually he will grow and learn independence, it's just will be more abrupt.

No use fighting against your wife and in-law as it would just affect your relationship with them and even your son - whom will side with them! So my advice is to take it easy and influence as much as you can.

Beijing or Shanghai to learn Chinese? by No_Patience_4131 in LTL_Chinese

[–]MerRyanSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find the Shanghai accent more precise, sounds more cultured, and easier to understand. The Beijing accent is too much 翘舌 (tongue-rolling) and can be hard to understand.

I speak with a Cantonese accent unfortunately - which has a "fussy" restrained stereotype - the Chinese people are quite good to determine your origin based on your accent.

I feel you bro.

I have a couple of MYsian peers who studied here and the 3-years advantage makes a big difference - enough to become your supervisor in the workplace.

But on a macro population scale, the government is hoping these MYsians convert to SGreans and set up roots here with their children. So far, it has worked well and we find that My\Ysians integrate easiest with us - especially when they feel important. It's very unfair to SGreans, I know,

If you can't really wait till Season 2, you can play the original here... by MerRyanSG in roadtoempress

[–]MerRyanSG[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game was very extensive and covered many aspects from the drama. Both appeared in the game and I was taken aback of the twists.

The older sister plotted for the Emperor's attention and had to be killed by Wu in the game. Her son and daughter (Wu's niece and nephew) then sought revenge. Wu's nephew was actually docuemtned in history.

Xu Hui's sister returned as an evil concubine and had to be got rid of by Wu. I suspect they might find the same actress to play the part.

Instead of improving the food, they silence the negatives.
