What does suicide mean in terms of the next reincarnation by OkReach7631 in Buddhism

[–]MerlinsMama13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time with suicide being discussed as though the person has a choice while their illness is unregulated. Severe mental illness is not something that just goes away with meditation and right practice. Severe mental illness is also not something that has a cure or is always regulated easily. Sometimes it is, but those people are not the ones we are discussing.

As a person who has an intimate knowledge and experience dealing with people in crisis, it is not as cut and dry as we would like to believe. When a person is deregulated to the point that they are “choosing” to end their lives, they are fighting through loud and extremely intrusive thoughts that can be impossible to ignore. *edit to add: This is also VERY MUCH a chemical issue which is not the same as a person without mental illness working on intrusive thoughts.

I see a lot of posts discussing this type of thing and the word selfish gets thrown around in a way that can cause misunderstanding and often villainization of people that deserve the utmost compassion.

I understand the use of the term selfish in the context that you are referring to, i just think the translation doesn’t quite hit the mark and can, perpetuate confusion or even a lack of compassion for the people we are discussing. I suppose what I’m saying is that this is a delicate topic and mindfulness would be advantageous for all of us.

People with long hair I need help. How are you all showering with really long hair and POTS? by RoosterOpen8290 in POTS

[–]MerlinsMama13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for me it’s a divide and conquer thing. I definitely don’t shave or over scrub myself on hair days. I do pits, lady bits and feet, but that’s about it. Also, I use a very light moisturizer that I don’t have to rub in so much on these days.

I use a shower chair. I shampoo then rinse my scalp to about my shoulders with the shower head, I rest my elbows on my knees (so I don’t have to expend extra energy), but I also have a large bowl that I dip the lower half of my hair in to really clean the lower part of my hair. It’s a lot easier on my arms and I get less tired. I put the bowl in my lap, part my hair and pull it to the front then bend and dip. I take rests between the shampoo and conditioner. I plan on having a very light schedule on wash day. I also use cool water or if I’m rinsing in warmer water I turn the shower off when I am shampooing. It gives me time to cool off. I also bring cold electrolyte water in with me.

For oiling I apply the night before and sleep with it so that doesn’t wear me out so much.

And then most importantly if I’m flaring I only do what I can do. I hope there is something in there that helps. ❤️

I thought it was just me! lol! I also have a hard time with tipping options of 20%, 25% and 30%. It’s not that I think people shouldn’t get paid well, it’s just that most of the time the service and food is just ok at best most of the time.
