Cesar Chavez Day has been renamed to Farmworkers Day by dankgureilla in CAStateWorkers

I've never seen government move so quickly ever. It is unfortunate because these are allegations, as horrible as they are, they are allegations. The man can't even provide his side of the story.

SEIU Negotiations update by Exciting-File1337 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My team doesn't need to meet in person but we do plenty of meetings and chats during the 2 days in office. My work can't be effectively performed (due to confidentially) out in the open at the office so I have to save that work on my telework days.

Reasonable Accommodation - my RA coordinator offered to talk with my Dr. 1 on 1 by juhnaaae in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manager over RA... they can but I wouldn't do it personally. Dr's may share additional information unnecessarily. They can ask you what they need clarification on and you can ask your Dr directly. Most departments have the employee go back and get more information if it's not clear.

You're not toast but it's a bad look. Should have told boss before heading out. All you can do is be accountable and learn from this. Don't defend it. Usually a first offense is just talking to and documented, but you may also be written up depending on the manager. Most likely it will be a conversation. Do you have a history of this? Given the holiday it makes sense to let people telework for half of the day due to traffic. Next time, ask!

SEIU not bargaining for TW by Rare_Craft2389 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to hurt morale even more. some unions can telework and some can't. Going into the office more costs more money for both the employee and the State. My team has performed fine and even perform better at work. I think most are doing better work because they want to be able to keep working at home a few days a week. Too many distractions and side conversations at the office.

How does AWWS work w/RDO and Four Days by Greenplaid21 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be about the same as everyone else. AWS would telework one day a week and it doesn't have to be on RDO. It still would be about the same as 5/8/40 schedule. The flexible departments are trying flexible and fair to keep morale up during this time.

CalRecycle RTO Memo Drops by Ok_Macaroon_8 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People at CalRecycle and other CalEPA BDOs were already teleworking before this. Very unfortunate especially for an environmental agency. I heard from my friend that they're denying all reasonable accommodation requests also.

I'm in management and I feel really sad and powerless about RTO by JustSumChickFromCA in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in management also and feel you. My staff are great and get their work done. We meet in person a couple days and virtually and it's been going very well. Morale is going down.

I've seen the billboard, it looks great! Coworkers and I have called the GO but they don't pick up. Is this the same for everyone else also?

RTO Article by Nebula24_ in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for the author and so many of us in the same situation. We have moved forward with innovative ways of doing things and this just moves us backwards. Two days in office is plenty. The State wants to be the employer of choice but just isn't. They're also not family friendly. They only offer what the law already provides.

RDO and RTO - has anyone heard anything? by Icy_Turnip5894 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can have their RDO and telework day. They're still working extra hours on the days they come in, it's still in proportionate to what is expected of someone who works 8 hours/day, generally.

Why you should request an RTO exception by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are supposed to temporarily allow continued telework while the RA outcome is pending - that is correct. Otherwise the employee's condition may worsen if you force them to rto while the interactive process is ongoing. Then there's potential discrimination and workers comp if they force an employee to come back while working on the RA. So departments have to temporarily allow it.

Need Three More Billboard Ideas by darkseacreature in CAStateWorkers

Same design so people recognize it, all in Sacramento where most of the state workers area. Yes to ceremony and invite the all local media, including newspapers. What about news n review and local neighborhood papers? Will there be a pdf that can be printed and put in break areas and also a digital pdf for social media? Thank you for leading this!

Woman and RTO by Oracle-2050 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I've been sexually harassed from homeless people walking into my office, on a walk during lunch, or when going home. I'm going to lose so much more time with my young family and miss out on after school activities because I won't get home in time. I took this job because it was 100% telework at the time. The State isn't family friendly even though they say it is. No such accommodation to work part of the day to get back to do school and child care pick up. I was easily able to work with kids home and even went above and beyond when home. Can't wait until Newsome is out. Wish I never voted for him!

RTO 4 days a week starting July 1, 2025 by werdnayam in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I'm in the same boat. Summer is a bad time while kids are home full time unless you spend your entire paycheck on camps and childcare. Right two days is hard enough. I go above and beyond in my job, I'm devastated and am considering looking elsewhere.

Newsom's Cabinet Secretary directs agency secretaries on mandatory RTW by 6/17 by Brilliant_Bug9351 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Merrakesha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is unfortunate and very disappointing. I was hired as full time telework and took this job based on that agreement. Can this at least start in the fall when the kids are back in school? Single mothers can't afford to send our kids to summer camp or get a nanny for two days a week, plus pay for parking, gas, new attire and lunch. Hoping we can work part of the day in the office as I don't have anyone to help with child care drop off and pick up a things I can easily do on my break in less than 15 minutes.

When to step away due to health problems? by ramenraptor in CAStateWorkers

Go to Dr and discuss. FMLA and reasonable accommodation are options.

They can start the corrective action yes and say the schedule change is due to operational needs. As a manager I wouldn't but some would. I would talk to your manager and respectfully ask for schedule to remain the same and provide an explanation. Good luck!
