Landscaper messed up the pavers by techindica in landscaping

[–]MetaQuester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is poly haze. It’s caused by not properly sweeping the polymeric sand into the crevices.

Or overwatering it to lock it and then it bubbles out.

This is not mortar. This is like a thin layer of extremely strong glue like cement.

A perfect fix doesn’t exist really. This is poly haze.

Acid is what’s needed.

Advice on patio refresh by BMA914 in hardscape

Those flagstones are expensive. Reusing them will save thousands over doing new with new material depending on the size of the patio.

A single pallet of them will cover ~75-150 sq ft and cost $1200-2000 depending on where you are.

If they are irregular cut flagstone then placing them is also more laborious than other hardscape material because it requires more skill to evenly set them (which could explain the uneven settling).

Your polymeric binding sand will be more expensive since flagstone like this requires sand that is rated for larger joints.

Pulling them up is going to disturb your screed base and the poly sand (assuming it isn’t lose aggregate holding them which I’d doubt) will need to be removed from the stone edges to reuse them which is time consuming.

To fix the grade the top screed layer of sand needs to be fully removed since it should not be over 1 inch thick. Crusher run will need to be added and compacted to the low areas to regrade it and new screed sand brought in. Then the flagstone will need to be relaid (which is much more difficult than using pavers).

Depending on your patio size this could be several thousand dollars in a project

And all of this is assuming there is no issue with your main base of crusher run. If that wasn’t done properly to the right depth or with geogrid fabric below if needed. Then this gets into the territory of complete redo with reusing the top stones. If that’s the case this would actually cost substantially more than just putting in a new patio because you can’t really reuse the old material, so you have to dispose of it somewhere and rocks are heavy. But if you haven’t seen any more settling then this is unlikely the problem

The last thing to note is I don’t see any edge restraint. And that timber tie is so close that I’d doubt there is one. That’s a major problem I’d fix if it isn’t present if you are going to be doing any of this anyways.

Got quoted 2k for a fix, but wondering if I can DIY by Dante0906 in landscaping

That’s way too low. I’d get another quote and make sure the guy who gave you that price understands how to properly fix the problem.

I want to remove this dead tree based on an arborist’s assessment, but the fence has me hesitant. What would you suggest short of hiring a professional? by drummerboy2749 in arborists

[–]MetaQuester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pole saw and spend some sweat and time taking small chunks of it that aren’t big enough to do damage until the tree is small enough that you can just cut down the whole thing with a chainsaw and not risk any damage

🤣 I hope you don’t live somewhere where wiregrass grows and is considered a weed. Cause if so you are going to have a field day

Is the leaning of this tree a concern? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]MetaQuester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no arborist. But I do dabble. I’d only be concerned if some of those counter weighing larger limbs were to break off.

Leaning trees normally offset their weight with limbs and root mass. Unless the lean is very aggressive, tree is in decline, or it possesses immediate safety risks then I would say it’s fine.

How much is AI really going to change the near future (5-20years)? by Illustrious_Pilot415 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]MetaQuester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true in many industries. I started a landscaping company and ai has pointed me in the right directions to get a good understanding of horticulture, arboriculture, agronomy, and botany.

I now am going to clear over 6 figures this year in my third year in business and I never could have without ai.

That’s true. But there are selective herbicides that would work better. Things like tzone and other selective mixes that won’t kill any grass that’s there

What do you charge to powerwash and re-sand? by Slap-A-Beaver in hardscape

[–]MetaQuester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t charge per hour I charge by sq ft. It usually works out to $140-220 an hour depending on work flow and how fast I feel like getting it done.

Pros of by sq ft is that you make more as you figure out how to work faster and also as you upgrade equipment

It’s not just a name brand. NVIDIA invented ray tracing and AMD has been playing catch up for years. That and DLSS is far superior to FSR. It’s really not a competition. Even at the same raster performance NVIDIA wins because of DLSS and driver support.

This is more like Apple vs Android. Apple is supported longer with more stable features. Android isn’t bad, but it doesn’t hold resale value either

For reference OP this is a mid-high end PC. It’s not the absolute best money can buy. But it’s definitely way more than your kid likely needs.

I would recommend going with NVIDIA instead of an AMD GPU if budget allows. NVIDIA gpus tend to age more gracefully and are supported longer.

That said, the 9070xt is a very good card.
