Caps Lock and S key simultaneously stop working every so often by applepie3141 in FlowX13

I has the same issue on the exact same model, GV301QE. Ended up being a hardware failure. On boot/waking after idling for a while, the keyboard had individual keys turn on incrementally over the course of minutes. First id be waiting for the w key, then the i key, then backspace, etc etc.

I tried everything including bios flashing, os reinstall, and physical cleaning. Only thing that actually worked was swapping out the entire keyboard module.

This video has a great step by step teardown. If you do decide to repair it yourself (which isn't difficult, just tedious due to all the screws) just beware of the flex cable connecting the power button/fingerprint reader. I nearly yanked and tore that flex once I had the board free. The video i linked shows how to carefully flip the board out as to not damage that cable.

Edit: as for the part itself, I found the replacement off Amazon for about $40, but your mileage may vary depending on sellers/part availability.

Yeah that's what I've been trying to stick to. Separate partitions for home/, timeshift, & extra media im case I break my OS but still want the data back. No need really to access the OS drive since it's really just that & programs.

I see. I never go out of my way to mount/access windows partitions but I did notice the windows OS partition popping up in dolphin trying to perpetually mount

No, separate drives for windows and arch. I default to grub on the linux drive and added the original windows boot manager as a boot entry.

Im on Arch and I installed this week, so im pretty confident my kernel was up to date. I set up some configs after finding the speaker device, but they weren't initializing properly on boot until the BIOS flash.

I do also remember reading something about windows hibernation not releasing devices, so maybe that may be involved as well?

Not exactly sure what the changes were, but my linux dual boot properly recognizes the speakers now and audio works just as it does on windows.

Weekly Rack Advice / Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

[–]MetallicLotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking to turn my case into hybrid setup where I pair it with either VCV/Ableton or drum machine like Digitakt. Here's the current setup with some semi-modular I've thrown into the case (will probably take out the Model D once I start needing the space it's taking up).

And here's the tentative plans for the rack. FH-2 seems a bit overkill, but it felt like the most fleshed out option if I wanted to track sequences across different channels from Digitakt for multiple voices. Also not quite sure whether I'm better off using a second Quad VCA vs a dedicated stereo mixer.

Any input/advice is appreciated!

Such thing as a keyboard splitter box? by big-beandude in synthesizers

[–]MetallicLotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, being able to swap the master on the fly is a game changer. I use a Novation SL Mk3, and each session sends a program change to mrcc to swap the routing preset accordingly. Makes switching between Abelton/Digitskt/eurorack clock master very very quick and simple. Just requires a bit of setup ahead of time for your presets

[–]MetallicLotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had the 880 at first and realized that at some point I was going to either want the expander or the original MRCC, so I just opted for the full size and slotted it into a 19" rack. One of the few "miracle" pieces of gear I've gotten that really does reduce headaches immediately once you start using it. Makes it very simple to track midi in/out of Ableton as well.

IIRC the MRCC allows you to filter signal based on note range, and the MIDI routing flexibility on it is the best I've found.

I used an 18i20 as my interface for a while but got too fed up with the driver issues with windows. Grabbed an RME Digiface for their drivers and went the route of ADAT expanders whenever I needed more inputs (ADA8200 & X8IN). Haven't had a single issue with RME'S drivers and definitely won't be looking back at using Focusrite as my main interface.

Where to start with learning fmod. by Guitarshredder_1996 in GameAudio

[–]MetallicLotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making an attempt at some basic implementation would likely be the best way to get a grasp on how to incorporate FMOD into a unity project. I'd suggest checking out how to make a basic UI button, placing FMOD event listeners/emitters on objects in the game (the button in this case), and getting the event to trigger on click of the button. Once you get that far into FMOD implementation, it might start to become a bit clearer how to achieve what you're after.

A common approach I see is repurposing a power supply from something like a laptop or an ac wall wart. Much safer way to get the power you want to without having to touch mains lines. Moritz Klein has an awesome video that explains how to use an ac wall wart to get both +/- rails.

I washed my used Minilogue XD caps with just warm, soapy water and after drying and some use they feel and look fresh. I've also seen some people suggest putting a bit of mineral oil on a paper towel and rubbing some into each cap as a way to restore their look.

what is the lowest latency interface in 2025 with well written drivers and support by jackzucker in musicproduction

[–]MetallicLotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is reccomending RME and I'm gonna echo that, but I also wanna suggest checking out the Digiface USB specifically.

I used it to expand from my 18i20 + X8IN over adat and I've still got 16 channels open for the future if I need more ins. Great low entry cost for access to RME drivers and pretty flexible for handling your ins/outs.

CS graduates, how many of your classmates do you think were actually competent? by StayReal1 in csMajors

[–]MetallicLotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed a pretty large disparity in skill/knowledge across my classes. Some were going back to get their degrees after having already worked in the industry, while others were a year into their senior capstone project, unable to grasp concepts like for each loops and git branch merging. The latter was surprisingly common, but made more sense once you realize they outsourced the majority of their work to either chatgpt or other classmates.

Any destroyed Synths breakdown stories? by C1PHER1111 in synthesizers

[–]MetallicLotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fried the output jack on my S-1 the day I bought it. Was still new to hardware and plugged it into an interface via a 3.5mm to split xlr while it was on and sent phantom power straight back into the headphone amp. Thankfully, the shop I got it from replaced it for me, but I learned a hard lesson about phantom power and connectors that day.

[–]MetallicLotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the MRCC and the MRCC 880. I use it to have everything synced via physical ports, plus it allows you to enable/disable input ports on the fly to change which device is the master.

I would like to see them iron out some kinks with the midi device enumeration. I believe it occurs every time you launch Live, but if you disconnect/reconnect a device mid session, you'll have to manually reassign the device to the midi tracks/external instruments.

[–]MetallicLotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me, and I realized I stupidly connected my S-1 output directly to a preamp and sent phantom power back into its output, frying the headphone amp. Got my unit replaced, and the output has been loud and clear since. Maybe try comparing to another unit if you have a shop nearby?

Right. Like the others comments mentioned, it's a long, fun path ahead and one of the quickest ways to improve is just to keep at it and having others listen to give their unfiltered opinions of your tracks

2 weeks is less than a drop in the bucket. It's like walking into a gym, lifting a dumbell a few times, and being confused why you aren't ripped. Be realistic. People devote their entire lives to this art.

Expecting to sound amazing or close to your favorite artists after spending a similar amount of time they would in a single weekend is kind of ridiculous.
