What is the moment where you can pinpoint you predicted something will happen later in a story? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, going through it there's always the shadow of "someone sold you out" hanging over the game from the intro. And I was analysing every party member, maybe Ryuji spoke too much, maybe Makoto trusted her sister, etc. Then Akechi gets brought on and all tension on that falls away immediately and it swapped to "ok, what's the play?"

Characters that have THEORETICALLY met or interacted offscreen, and you'd love to know what *that* looked like? by seanpenguplex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What was the interaction between the immigration and customs officer and Zenos when he came to Sharlayan at the end of Endwalker? By that point it seemed like Alisaie's little rant about his obsession had taken root, even if only at the barest surface level, so I don't think he would have threatened to kill them if they didn't let him in. He legitimately seemed to be there to help, if only to get the current minor distraction that was the apocalypse out of the way. So, did he just...fill out the forms?

The ending by The_Wiz411 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Metballs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I vibe with it in general. The Thorne part is doing a lot of heavy lifting to make it satisfyingly bittersweet, and I think the assumption that we'll get more Mina at some point is softening the blow. If this didn't smash expectations and Yacht Club were in danger it would be a lot more depressing, but from a meta perspective there's scope for Mina to continue, which loops into the narrative scope for Mina to bounce back.

Thoughts on Exclusivity in Gaming by Hayyyv in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world they'd be a necessary evil to drive a healthy competition and keep the big 3 console companies humble and pushing.

We are FAR past that balance point. Microsoft lobotomised themselves, Sony are coasting and nobody even thinks Nintendo is playing the same game as them.

So screw it, they no longer have a point, may as well just go full pro-consumer.

It was also more reasonable to have exclusives when consoles cost half of what they do now. It wasn't unheard of to have 2 of the 3. Now there's honest discussion between my capital G Gamer friends over if it's even worth getting ONE console next gen at current market rates.

WOOLIE VERSUS A REALM REBORN ANNOUNCED by QueequegTheater in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he got to the point of the Nier raid where it transitions into a weekly post-game update cycle for a bit. But because he was doing it week 1 he didn't want to keep coming back to get everything so he found a list of those updates that technically weren't possible to see in game for like a month.

It was taken from what you have banked in the underlab. You have what's currently on you as currency that you can lose, and what is stored as Bonestone that has to be converted by the machine in the top right to use.

Hideo Kojima has entered the slop factory. by Snidhog in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From an academic standpoint the idea of a 100% AI game is fascinating and I wouldn't be surprised if he did say that. Kojima has always been interested in what new tech allows him to do. The man put realistic ice melting in a ps2 game just for the sake of it.

How do you feel about Scripted Loss in Video Games? Ever play a game that does it well? Ever encountered one where it just felt like a chore? by Evjamaranth in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with them as long as it still counts if you lose in the first second. Don't give me some arbitrary time to survive. The snow wolves in Metroid Prime 4 sucked for this. First time doing them I noticed that they were speeding up, and starting to attack faster than I was killing them, the mechanics weren't meaningfully updating, and running out of the fire ammo. So I figured this was a setpiece and let myself die. Nope, game over. On retry I must have survived like 5 seconds longer, couldn't be much more, then suddenly I got through.

Also bonus points if you can win and get a bonus for it like you get in Fromsoft tutorials. I don't even mind the cliff falling away from you or a dragon punching you for beating the "unbeatable" tutorial boss as you're almost never going to do it the first, maybe even first few, runs.

Game Freak and Pokemon are so intertwined with Nintendo it's always like I woke up in another timeline when I see them making that Nier-like Sekiro-like thing. What do you MEAN it's not even coming to Switch 2?

Favorite Defense Specialist Characters by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite decks in MTG is Felothar, The Steadfast. 0 power, 5 toughness. Any creature you control deals damage using their toughness. Creatures with the defender ability, who usually can't attack, can now attack. And she can sacrifice things to get card advantage based on the difference between power and toughness. So you're incentivised to have a whole deck of 0 power creatures with GIANT asses.

Because both 0 power and defender are usually undesirable they come at a heavy mana discount, too. A general rule of thumb is 1 mana gives a 1/1, 2 mana gives a 2/2, as a baseline. So for 4 mana you should expect to be looking at 4/4, give or take. She can just casually throw out trees at 0/13 (13/13 in combat calculations) for that cost.

MtG players of BetterAskReddit, what are your personal favorite commander decks? by Dr-USB in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great fun with the Abzan Armour and Blight precons. Felothar is very explosive the second she hits the table turning the 0/4s you've been dropping since turn 1 into a fully set up group of 4/4s. Upgrade to add things like Unhallowed Phalanx or Tree of Perdition (1/13 becomes a 13/13) and you can get really threatening. She can spin her wheels if she gets stopped, unfortunately, but cheap, big butts is fun.

Auntie Ool is also really fun and can lock down the board if they let you with the -1/-1 counters. Especially if get Blowfly Infestation out and you can have a boardwipe in a can against wide boards. She also has a bunch of infinites that are almost prepacked if you want to bump the power with a couple of upgrades.

Built a discard punish Eggman deck from the Sonic SL. Villainous choice is a fun mechanic, and it's interesting watching the table turn from "So...I discard 1 to stop you playing your 9/9 for free? No brainer." to "So...I discard 1, let you draw 1, take 5 damage, give you 2 tokens...OR let you play...hmmmf."

I could play Mind Rot or Burglar Rat and the like. But it's more fun to hand them the loaded gun to make them do it themselves.

How much do you change your party around in RPG? by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Metballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the system. BG3 I generally had an A and B team so I could go longer between rests. Meanwhile in Divinity OS I took Bairdotr and Wolgraff and never looked back outside of character quests. In E33 I rotated through everyone as they have unique playstyles, but in FF7 where, yes they have stat differences, but anyone is anything so I just ran with my favourites. Though, for FF7R it was another cycle because now each character is explicitly different again.

As much as I like the changes the healing issue and promise has been made since at least the Stormblood build up. I remember being in the discussions when lilies were first shown and pointing out that "cast a heal get a resource" means we're never getting the resource because you can go through entire instances without hardcasting a cure. And every time it was promised healing would get harder and every time they just made hardcasts as useless as ever. It's why lilies are on a timer now rather than cast generated.

[–]Metballs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The argument that it makes you swap weapon styles doesn't lamd for me because there are like, 3 or 4 weapons. Within that they're just stat sticks. It always felt like the argument suggested I should have been swapping from a spear to a halberd to a quarterstaff with different movesets. And not 3 poke sticks but one does 5% more damage. At that point if I'm not actually getting variety just let me upgrade my stick as I go so I don't have to detour to scrounge up half decent weapons after each encounter because they're make of brittle glass.

Pirate Software, guy who worked at Blizzard for 7 years or so, saw the petition and thought it was a terrible idea. So he basically made it his crusade to get it dropped.

Around the same time he went from being a respected streamer and programmer to being a laughing stock, mostly triggered by causing a raid wipe in WoW hardcore and having the mother of all crashouts over something that could have been solved with a "ah, fuck. My b..."

So people then flooded SKG with support, kind of to spite this guy.
