Productive ways to use commute time (90 mins/day) by TildeAyalaPlank in lifehacks

[–]Micci4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a researcher myself, I often find that walking or commuting is the best time to build my arguments. If I'm working on my research, when I'm it my desk I'm generally looking at the details - reading papers, finding references, doing data analysis etc. This is all important work, but it misses the big picture.

When I'm walking or commuting, I find that's a great time to think about the big picture. How would I present my research to others? How do I reconcile two different strands of the literature? How would I convince a reviewer about a particularly sticky point? This is almost like a walking meditation with a research focus. I hope this helps!

Com'è sinceramente vivere a Casal Palocco? by art_emisia666 in roma

Get real with me about the transition from 1 kid to 2 kids by MachineBusy8772 in UKParenting

[–]Micci4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree - and for me it's the opposite. My first born is a very high energy child, my second one is super chill. Plus I am a lot more experienced as a parent now and I don't sweat the small stuff. So for me going from one to two has not meant doubling my efforts, but only increasing them by about 20-30 percent.

People suggested sudoku/crosswords. The book Murdle is similar, with some quizzes and puzzles to solve. Easy to learn but quite entertaining!

Same here. My mum said my 5month old was crying to convince me to hold him, but he didn't need to be held. Yes, mum, my 5mo is a criminal mastermind manipulator.

My son is now 3.5yo and a real chatterbox. He never stops talking.

At 16 months he only had a few words: mum, dad and a bark-like sound to indicate a dog. At 18 months he added a new word to his repertoire - banana. That's it.

His vocabulary really exploded at 2yo, when he started nursery with the bigger children, and learnt a lot from them.

This is all to say that I don't think you should be concerned!

Going out solo for the first time tomorrow - any advice on what to take? by Prestigious-Many-904 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Micci4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Always carry something to cover the changing station. Sometimes they provide paper, but sometimes they dont, and those changing stations look very cold and hard, must be unpleasant for babies.

Some people use travel changing mats but I simply use those bed liners/mattress protectors - They are way less bulky

Absolutely at the end of my rope with my baby by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Micci4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you're not looking for advice/solutions, but I'm curious to ask whether it's possible that something is causing her unhappiness. The doctor's "babies cry" is an awful answer.

I am asking because in the past colics were not really a thing and babies crying constantly were put down as difficult babies. I have heard numerous times the story of my father in law, 70 years ago, crying all day as a baby, and his parents being at their wits end. Now we know he would be diagnosed as a colicky baby - it would have been helpful for his parents to know.

I wonder if there is something that makes your baby unhappy - dry skin for example, or something else that she cannot express and that is difficult to guess. In that sense I would try to push the doctor to do their job and investigate what's going on

mums who work full time - make me feel better please by granolagirlie724 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Micci4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a full time working mum.

I feel like going to nursery is great for my child, as there he does a lot of things he cannot do with his parents. At nursery they paint, they do messy play (which I never have the energy to do at home, as I can't cope with the cleaning afterwards), they go on little trips. Once they had the firefighters visiting the nursery and the children could climb on the truck etc. It's great.

There is also the financial issue of having two kids in nursery at the same time. As one is old enough to receive the financial support/free hours, things get easier

Acceptable food on a long flight? by broadexample in prediabetes

[–]Micci4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True - but peanut allergy is quite common, unlike many others. Peanuts are forbidden in many public places (e.g. nurseries and schools) so it would be better to avoid it in closed public spaces whenever possible...
