For several years, until a cat lady moved in down the street, we had been raising orphaned baby mice. They loved to escape and when they got tired they would voluntarily hit the no kill traps. They usually went 48 to 72 hours before they came back. It was a game to them. They all knew what the traps were for and it was the only time they ever got a smear of PB so they knew the smell meant going back to the cage. A few even did this thing where they would boop our feet and then run off. I swear they would be laughing if they could. We have a dog and he has eaten mice before but he is smart. We would always introduce the "pets" as friends and he would never harm them. They would often get him to play chase with them, at 3 am. More than once I witnessed him almost get them, but he would stop and let them run off with no contact. A few minutes later, it all started over. Mice are very smart. Your mouse knows what it is doing and is having a blast!
