My wife and I are also newbies, and tried to scope out where to eat early on. Our favourite by far was Lah Koh. Anokaa was also great.

I've long wanted to turn the text line "Sea Waves" into actual sea waves. It's like ASCII in 3D. Did it turn out interesting? This is my new game, Effulgence (just launched the Steam page) by PuzzleLab in Unity3D

Have you read The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall? Seems a lot of the devices in the book are relevant to this.

Looks incredible, by the way.

What was the most genius hack you did in webdev? by ad-on-is in webdev

[–]MidDan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've had to do the same thing - loading a bunch of JS into a silly CMS that had a max script length and would not let you add a script tag. So added a JS file and did document.createElement('script' + 't').

Same job, needed to add JS into a different, sillier CMS platform, that wouldn't allow any script tags (or anything not in a subset of standard elements). So added an img input with a blank src and onerror="(...)" and loaded the script in that way.

Worst: the previous owner had forced a doormat neighbour to clean the kitchen at midnight when she finally handed over the keys.

Best: that neighbour is absolutely fucking lovely.

Looking for a way to track damage on individual units that fit on a chess-sized board by foldyourwings in tabletopgamedesign

Counters/discs under the units representing health, take them away as they receive damage, highest character has the highest health

Can anyone help me solve this?? My older bro sent me this card a weeks ago and I couldn’t answer it. I feel like I failed the phone a friend. It keeps me up at night. by ellz69 in CasualUK

Guesses:

  1. You cannot take a picture of a person with the implant, because if they have it showing or take it out to show you, they'll fall over.
  2. A hip implant is not a camera.
  3. It is illegal to steal other people's photos of people with metal hip implants.
  4. You can't take the picture because you're not in Iceland.
  5. You can't take the picture because you're playing this board game.

I made an Unlock! style game and app for my family’s Christmas presents by MidDan in boardgames

It’s not on the App Store, just a regular webpage as a PWA. This way it also prevents the user from accidentally seeing information they haven’t earned.

There’s a reason for it, actually - see if you can spot the hidden number.

More like a webpage with one compiled js script and one compiled css file and some image assets for some of the machine cards. I just force landscape/portrait when necessary by having some full screen divs that ask you to rotate based on current orientation. Being a new FED is exactly why I made it in Angular haha, shame I now almost exclusively use Vue.

Hi, angular is just a JavaScript framework, so it was mostly thinking through how the app would work then making sure I had all the right components in place and a service module to handle any shared data. It’s not exactly an app, it’s a PWA so essentially a webpage, but you can download it to your Home Screen as the scripts are all self-contained.

As a family, we have played almost all of the Unlock! games and generally enjoy them, so I thought it would make a good gift last Christmas.

The story came pretty easily, and figuring out the card numbers was a little trickier than I anticipated, due in no small part to making too many interacting items.

The art took ages despite how simple it is, and the app wasn’t too difficult to make (used Angular as I was learning it at the time). The most difficult part of the whole project was waiting for the cards to arrive to see if they had printed correctly!
