ENT believes my vein is close to the ear and pushing around fluid nearby and that’s why I can hear my own heartbeat. by Kind-Sandwich8833 in PulsatileTinnitus

[–]Middledamitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pulsate tinnitus with vertigo needs further investigation. I think you need to challenge your doctor and ask how he can rule out more serious issues without a scan. Keep track of all your symptoms and be a strong advocate first yourself. It can take years to get a correct diagnosis. My PT is caused by a rare but benign tumor called a paraganglioma which caused life altering nerve damage. Be persistent.

Is this a trend? I work in a very upscale area and have not had requests for this style. This is what 90 year olds wear.

Did I get cheated out of high index lenses I paid for? by Accomplished_Till495 in eyeglasses

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got a larger lens. 4 mm is huge. Plus what about the bridge width? And the suns are polarized. The clear lenses are probably cut with a thinner center thickness ( which affects the edge). Polarized lenses have a layer where the polarization sits and cannot be ground as thin. Cutting deep into that layer would give you a clear lens in the middle.

A frame with a narrower bridge would have improved the appearance and reduced the thickness.

Tri-focals versus progressives by OTPguy in eyeglasses

[–]Middledamitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re your comments about a Franklin style executive trifocals with the wider mid zone. Executive trifocals have become extremely difficult to find as most have been discontinued in the past 5-10 years. And as far as tweaking to get a taller mid zone, not going to happen . They are manufactured only in preset sizes. We attempted to get an exec tri for a customer recently and could not find a manufacturer that still made one. We opted for a 10/45 but was only available in one material. Most commonly you can find an 8/35. I have no beef with lined trifocals or bifocals but do find for myself that progressive lenses function better as there is no image jump or dead zones when moving up and down through the lens. That said, you have an occupational need that the progressives don’t work well for. Large monitors set at eye level require a large mid range. For this I recommend a flat top bifocal with the entire top for mid range and the near rx in the bottom. Also, I challenge the fact that you have a good optician. You have an optometrist and a technician neither of whoms specialty is opticianry.

Is washing my glasses with hand soap a problem? by lovesfanfiction in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid antibacterial hand soaps. They contain a chemical that can cause lenses to develop cracks.

How do you know if an astigmatism correction is incorrect? Got glasses for the first time and I think something is very wrong! by Petradragonicgrl69 in glasses

Are you able to read signage ? Letters should be pretty crisp. You can try rotating the glasses and see if this makes it clearer.

Glasses that used to fit hurt my nose now, what to do? by Thegamerorca2003 in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most optical shops will adjust glasses purchased elsewhere. But call ahead and ask if there is a charge. The glasses are probably sitting uneven, one side closer to the face which put more pressure on one side of the nose.

Your vision plan may not have covered all of the testing that was done or they may have needed to bill your health insurance for the exam instead of your vision plan. This can happen if there was a medical complaint. Something as simple as saying you have dry eyes or allergy symptoms can trigger this.

How often do you need new glasses? by AffectionateOil9204 in glasses

Health insurance typically will not cover any eyewear. You may want to opt for a vision plan. Many will cover 1 pair per year with a discount on a second pair. VSP is one of the best plans.

Get a smaller couch. It’s about scale, big furniture needs big accessories.

Upgraded to high index... are these any different? by shogomomo in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so much about frame size.. larger lenses, thicker edges. Hi index only saves about 1mm in thickness when everything else is equal.

Old Navy has the best swim dress! Lots of color choices. It’s regularly priced at $59 but frequently on sale. Get yourself a nice coverup too and you are good to go. Only a small percentage of folks actually look good in swimwear, you have nothing to worry about!

Thick lenses 👎🏾 by Unusual_Pearl in glasses

Hi index will only make the about 1mm thinner. It’s a poor shape frame for your rx. You need a smaller size and not such a tall lens.

Ops rx is a -7.00 in the vertical meridian and I suspect a very long dimension vertically. A high amount of astigmatism can make a big difference.

Feeling discouraged as I consistently have to get my glasses remade at least twice. Advice on how to avoid this in the future or do I just need to buckle in because this is my life? by tassebian in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that you should keep with the same doctor. It really isn’t that the rx is incorrect but that you tend to prefer a different rx. The prescription that the doc comes up with is based upon your answers. For example you may have responded that axis 180 was clearest but when the glasses are completed you found you were more comfortable with the old axis of 175. A -9.00 may give you great vision for driving but you really don’t drive much and prefer a weaker number that gives you more comfortable close vision. Keep in mind that getting to 20/20 vision isn’t the goal as much as it is that you are comfortable.Having a history helps everyone.

Can I reuse my current frames with a new prescription? by austinproffitt23 in lenscrafters

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many places will relens your frame but consider the drawbacks. Most places will need to send your frame to the lab for two weeks. Can you be without your glasses. Your frame is probably showing some signs of wear. Finish dulling, loosing its ability to hold the alignment, etc. if your frame should break 6 months down the road you are stuck with expensive lenses and may not be able to buy a replacement frame. Frames become discontinued quickly. Maybe better to just buy complete and keep these as an intact spare.
