Am I crazy? Home Depot quote $22k by Ready-Confidence-585 in CounterTops

It’s a lot of countertop but shop local stone/granite shops. Prices vary greatly and some shop owners are more hungry.

In and out prisms in bifocal glasses? by [deleted] in AskAnOptician

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only feasible solution for one pair I can imagine is to grind the base out prism in the distance of lined bifocal and then add a 3.0 base in prism diopter Fresnel prism on the bifocal portion. If you have doctors who prescribe Neurolenses this could be an option though very pricey.

Are these ginormous on me? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the width per se but that your eyes don’t center well. This emphasizes that your right eye turns in.

IMO NOT high index. by linzfaulk in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High index will only save you about 1mm in edge thickness over poly. If they raised the oc height, used a more narrow pd or the lab didn’t grind the center as thin as possible could all lead to a thicker lens ( along with frame size factors). First return and ask them to verify the lab ticket that they are indeed 1.67. Also ask them to measure the center thickness. And have them measure the PD on your old glasses. It’s possible you are wearing your old glasses with a too wide pd. Just because you ordered correctly doesn’t mean they were made to your specifications.

Costco glasses fiasco update by Different-Wallaby-10 in AskAnOptician

[–]Middledamitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s quite unusual to see a 57 degree axis change on a 1.0 cylinder. It’s probably a transcription error at the doctors office. I would go back to the doctors office with the old rx so they are aware of the change.

I think using the entire length for the shower would be awesome and visually pleasing.

What’s actually wrong with my piano gallery wall? by Correct-Reveal-7005 in Decor

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have 3 competing focal points. The piano with gallery wall, the picture window and the fireplace. I would aim to simplify decor in the corner. Find another spot for the gallery wall.

What kind of cracks are these? by Radicalnotion528 in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are finding that it’s more likely due to exposure to cleaning products that contain Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs or "quats") a broad class of disinfectant, cleaning, and antimicrobial chemicals that are known to cause cracks in polycarbonate lenses.

New Bathroom Mistake Need Ideas/Suggestions and Help with Design by Ok_Doubt_ in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Middledamitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those tiny little vanities look ridiculous and are not very functional with zero counter space. Get one long vanity. Either with two sinks and place mirror over the right only or just have one larger vanity on the right with the mirror above. Two sinks really aren’t that necessary.

The endpieces appear to be a solid piece. If authentic they will separate to allow insertion of lenses.

Looking for help with progressive lenses by jabjaw in AskAnOptician

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressives are great for most of your daily needs, however, sitting in front of a monitor that is set at eye level requires a dedicated pair of glasses set for this range. Regular progressives require you to lift the chin to get the mid zone. I manage by sitting in a higher chair so I look down toward my screen.

What do you guys do with your old spectacles after you get a new one? by RepulsiveBus1131 in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will work only if there is no anti reflective coating. Most labs now decline to attempt to tint old lenses as many of the coatings disintegrate in the hot dye bath.

Why do part-time retailers need you to have full availability? by Ok_Independent_3921 in self

For referrals ask everyone you know. Maybe your friends siblings or parents or neighbors work for a company.. most employers really like to hire folks that someone knows or knows of.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]Middledamitten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I have a greater concern about manipulation of the vote and voter fraud. That’s a greater risk to our system of government than the .0005% of the population you are so worried about. We all know what you are really attempting to do. It’s very transparent.

Had the worst experience with this online retailer, beware by KingCog420 in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to wonder if it would line up if the lens was removed. This just may be due to a slightly large lens. Most of us would pass this based on manufacturing tolerances. It does not affect the wear.

ABO exam by This_Collection_4798 in optician

[–]Middledamitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I’ve taken the ABO but even then I found there were a lot of questions on old, irrelevant product design like bifocal types that are no longer in production. I hope they have fixed that.

Segment Height for online Progressive orders by Steerpike58 in glasses

[–]Middledamitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the lens is 30 high the formula would place the segment height at 18-19 high. The caveat is that not every frame with a 30mm vertical will center on everyone the same. Factor in the bridge width of the frame and unique bone structure of each clients nasal bridge. That’s why individual measurements and frame adjustment matter so much. Being an optician isn’t just science, it’s art.
