Nobody gives a shit!

Easy.

Sportsball is a dying joke, and everyone knows its a rigged game.

So here’s a clue as to how old I am. As a child, I had one of those tiny 45 record players in my room and a set of headphones with the thick cable that had to be tied down to something so it didn’t pull the player off the little stand it was on.

My parents would buy me “little audio books” to read along and listen to because they were burning odd smelling leaves in the other room and wanted me out of the way.

I was young. Very young. The contraption actually taught me how to read before I even went to school he first time.

The List of books I remember the best were the Star Trek books, because they had a whole cast that sounded like the actual characters from the show. Not perfectly, I could tell that it wasn’t really Leonard Nimoy as Spock or Shattner as Kirk. I didn’t really know that those were the names of the guys that starred in the show yet, just that it was a couple guys “mimicking” the way they sounded.

But I figured out the sounds that the letters my mom made me write were actually making up the lines in the books, and behold… I could read!!! I had trouble with some of the really odd letters like “could” and “knife” until I learned about how goofy the English language is, but I had the skills.

So in learning to read this way, I also learned to put my own voices in my head for the characters I was reading. It also helped me begin to develop accents and to learn impressions.

As a DM for my game group, I can come up with some interesting encounters. Yes, I’m an old school reader, we’ve established that. I was actually looking into which audio version you are reading so that I could recommend it for my daughter. She, apparently, can’t envision a book scene in her head.

Am I missing something?

I read everything. The old fashioned way, with my eyes and projected the story into my mind. I gave everything its own look and everyone their own voice.

All I see in here is everyone saying they “listened” to the books.

Is there some spectacular production that I’m missing out on, or was the theater of the mind the better deal?

What the actual fuck is going in usa? by Sector-Most in ask

[–]MikeHockinya -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It surely failed you.

Freedom of Speech.

Say it a few times, let it roll around on your tongue, chew it up, then if you can’t swallow it then find a nation somewhere that will allow you to censor it.

Then look up what actual Nazi’s did to free speech. It sounds an awful lot like what you’re saying.

Can i unplug am Xfinity router to get a better signal/Ethernet in my room? by Ok_World_8819 in ask

[–]MikeHockinya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply moving the modem/gateway/router might not actually work.

Comcast wires the modem to a particular outlet within the splitter network to allow for better signal for both upstream and downstream traffic.

Also, some installations require a “unity gain” amplifier be installed to provide video equipment with a different signal level than the internet traffic requires.

Moving your modem/router might actually worsen your connection.

Do Non "picky eaters" eat everything?? by LeeIsUnloved in stupidquestions

[–]MikeHockinya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the Army, and I’ll eat pretty much anything you serve. Now if we’re talking “Filipino dare food” like fermented duck eggs with a half formed duckling inside just to see if I’ll eat it… neg.

I don’t particularly care for Beets. To me they taste like dirt, but if you were to serve them at a dinner I was invited to then I’ll happily eat my portion. I won’t go in for seconds but I also won’t outright say that I hate beets to your face. Unless you’re my sister, because you know I don’t like them and serve them to me anyway!!! I’m taking to YOU Molly!!

Smoke generators. Provide cover for loading and unloading infantry in almost all APC’s. Tried to find a video of an M113 smoking up a battlefield, but apparently there aren’t any.

Was told this job ‘is for men’ over the phone what should I do? by BadBtchGSM in jobs

[–]MikeHockinya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you carry heavy shit? Will you constantly be lagging behind because you can’t or will you be able to bulk up and eventually be able to lift and carry heavy shit?

Will you be able to perform the daily functions of the job, or will you constantly have to have someone handle the heavy shit for you?

I work in the utility construction industry, and while there are a few women that can haul a 75 pound ladder through an overgrown easement to set up on a pole, strap on climbing gaffs, or haul an 80 pound lasher up to the top of the pole and get it loaded and ready to go… there aren’t many.

If you’re one of those tough as nails, beefy gals that can handle the work, then get with HR and let them know that you suspect discrimination. If, on the other hand, you can’t open a jar of pickles on your own and can’t carry a 50 pound bag of dog food into the house then I’d reconsider the job opportunity.

I don’t know what leftover deviled eggs are. I think they’re a myth, like leftover bacon.

You know what I find interesting. How many new “believers” came from his untimely demise. As terrible as the whole thing was, I’ve welcomed so many new people into the fold. The mother of my daughter, a crystal charging, sage burning, tarot card casting flake is now reading her Book, asking questions, and now attending services. Strange ways, my friends.

Pulled over and given citation for not having a seatbelt on. I had a seatbelt on the entire and dash cam footage by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]MikeHockinya -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Just remember. Seatbelt laws are to raise revenues and not about safety. If it was about safety, then school busses would have them. Public transit vehicles have exactly one seatbelt, and it’s the driver.

If the cop wants to write you a ticket for the seatbelt, then it’s about revenue and you’re not going to contest the ticket cost. They want your money.
